  • THANK YOU for posting this! First darned thing I did with my new bike was dump it on a hill. Had to get my boyfriend to help me pick it up 'cause I had no idea how to do it myself since I can't lift 300 lbs (especially on a hill). Personally though I hope I never have to lay on the ground to get help XD

  • Thanks for that!

  • One small but important detail missing, make sure the bike is in gear. If its in neutral and if there is any slope as soon as you get the metal off the ground it will roll away from you. Even without a slope it will move away unless your force is perfectly across the bike.

  • I prefer the "lay on the ground method"

  • i SO wish i saw this vid a week ago. I'm a beginner & i dropped my bike on the right side last weekend. I picked the bike & mounting the bike and dropped it back and the second drop caused a crack on the starter/brake housing. cost = 70 bucks. :-( feels so crappy.

  • This video is very helpful. Thanks for this nice "how to". Greetz from Germany.

  • hack squat fuck yeah!!!!

  • Damn you wind!!! Nice bike btw.

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • I'm almost 60 years old, so some young dude always wants to help an old guy pick up his bike! Like free checking, it is one of the few perks of old age.

  • I hit a patch of wet pine needles in a tight turn and dropped my bike for the first time the other day. I remembered everything you taught in this video and it worked out great. Special thanks for the tip on flipping out my kickstand before starting!

  • Today my Ducati leaned over when i was trying to park in a tight corner luckily nothing happened to the bike, and it was super hard to lift it up in the normal way, I finally did manage to do it with out any help but it was super hard. Now i am here 10 min after the fall. This is a way better option

  • Great video and information. Now you mentioned a girl being able to do this, dude that chick is bigger then most men! Try it with a regular sized girl.

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Easy and effective way to pick up a bike!

    Hugs from Brazil

    Guilherme

  • Jeez, that BMW looks beefy. first time I tipped my yamaha dual sport I did the hold your head and walk around your bike frantically method and it worked out fine, I got two officers to help me lift... I know a dual sport is light but, I'm a scrawny geek that rides motorbikes to save fuel :P

  • I like his funny misspeak "When the bike is killed", lol

    but good explanation, dude

  • C'est pratique ! merci.

  • this is really cool and very helpful. i have exactly the same bmw so will definitely try this out this summer!!! :)

  • One last thing I can add to this near-perfect tip is keep your riding gloves on. If anything happens and the bike moves or falls back, your hands are safer.

  • Thank you for such an detailed explanation!

  • what is the noise at 2:02?

  • Be best to empty the Luggage Racks as well.

  • well done man....very usefull advices

  • i should of searched for this video last week...before I dropped my bike :|

    Haha

  • awesome video thanks for sharing.I will send to all new riders

  • Lift with your butt, not your legs.

  • if you hit your kill switch then wonder why your bike isnt starting.... just sell the bike and buy a pedal bike, or better still, a kids big wheel.

  • Nice...realy nice. Thanks from Brazil!

  • It would be possible to ride the bike when you lift it up and not use the kick stand. Also it needs real attention not to stand up too violently to avoid loosing the bike to the other side!

  • Extremely informative/helpful. Thank you!

  • Congratulations, because this video is great. Thanks

  • thanks for making the vid

  • hahaha lay on the ground next to the bike someone driving by will stop very funny... thanks for the hints..

  • cosi si ribalta dall'altra parte

  • @mcghespo no, l'ha detto che devi aprire prima il cavalletto!

(It can't fall over the other side cause, as the boss said, you have first to put the Kickstand down)

  • Nice tip... i put my back out last time i lifted my machine...this method is way better...Thanks

  • Very nice ;)

  • Today, the bike fell on its right (!) side, a few feet from the traffic lights, with gasoline dripping from a full tank. It was my first fall ever. But I had watched your video a month ago and the bike was again on its sidestand within seconds. Drivers and pedestrians could just not believe it. Thank you and the asian glass-cleaner who kindly offered to help. Many thanks

  • Now do that in the mud mate! If ya can't pick ya bike up by yourself ya shouldn't be riding it!

  • nice..

  • excellent showcasing (especially the straight back comments). thanks for showing this mate. Anyone who has a bike needs to see this video

  • perfect way to do!!!

  • Im an advanced rider, police trained and I would like to say the gentleman in this video is perfectly correct, the clever bit that could help a weak person or a chick is well covered, thanks for taking the time dude!

  • @phoebelala

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • thanks great tips. laughed my ass off about the part where you just lay on the ground next to the bike lol

  • Great job, probably will happen again; I'll try it next time; thanks!

  • trunk/close your steering with your bike key... so the steering don´t move ;)

and you can lift front to the bike if it was not so heavy like this one...

  • fuck me, like you have to ask!

  • Many thanks. THis video is soooooooooo helpful. I wish I would have seen this awhile ago when I dropped my motorcycle.

  • Thanks for the video.. This should so be in the CBT (compulsory basic training UK). I've been riding with a full license for 6 years, thankfully only drooped my bike twice but this method would have been useful in both circumstances!

  • I'm currently getting a motorcycle license and this was very helpful after I dropped the bike today while attempting low speed maneuvering. This kind of stuff isn't covered in regular motorcycle lessons where I live (Portugal) so here's my thanks to the author.

  • thanks man, very useful, i used your technique once.

hope i'll never vahe to use it though ;)

  • If you can't pick it up with your butt against the seat, turn around and try it facing the bike. It works for me.

  • Comment removed

  • yep it does..

  • One thing I wonder is what if the dropped bike is in an incline, either down hill or up hill.

  • nice technique thanks, kinda expecting you to fall over though slightly dissapointed :)

  • The internet has done this to you.

  • Loving this technic & i've used it safely & in full control of my F8GS.

    Topman, take care NB'

  • I just bought 2008 f650gs (btw before this I never ride any bike, today I pass the licence so I went for I short ride...) because I was too slow bike falls on right side up in the hill how do you pick a fallen bike in a hill?

  • Hey Thanks for the demonstration. I just bought a 2006 F650gs yesterday and I am about to go for my first hour long ride with my wife on the back. Thought I'd check out your video in order to be prepared. God Bless you!

  • dzieki kolego, fajna podpowiedz, kiedys oglądałem na tvn turbo taka samą taktyke przedstaiwał Tomek Kulik.

  • GOOD JOB! but it's not so simple! not all bikes have handles on the back or side stand with retaining spring....

  • usually you can grab onto SOMETHING, like the frame, shocks, etc. I have also found on bikes wothout the sidestand retainer spring, after you lift the bike up verticle, balance it for a moment, turn around, and flip and hold the kickstand down whilst leaning the bike back onto the stand -wulaa

  • laying on the ground, thats brilliant man!

I haven't had an issue picking up a bike or well fall over for that matter but if i so happen to have a goldwing or something super heavy laying down is a brilliant plan :)

  • im guesing that a motorcycle is alot harder to lift that a dirtbike lol.

  • yep

    your right

  • I saw it took 4 of my coworkers to pickup my bike when I went down on it. Thanks to your video, if it happens again. I know what to do or to instruct how to pick it up.

  • Thanks so much for the video. I dropped my bike in the garage just then and couldn't pick it up. I searched youtube for a tutorial and about 5 minutes later I got the bike up so easily. Thanks again!

  • I am 67 years young, my ride is a 1500 Nomad, 740 pound dry weight.....Yes I did....two times in gravel...in one day. could not lift my bike. Two men (my sons) picked it up with some pain. Just saw your video, Layed my ride down in my yard, followed your advice and picked it up by myself... Thanks for posting your tip.

  • Nice tips. Try covering the mic on your camera with a small piece of sponge to reduce the wind noise.

  • Omfg, i decided to try out my parents yamaha motorcycle and it fell over and this video saved my life, but one of the mirrors broke off so i just duct taped it and sooner or later my mom will find out and ill have to have a good excuse, anyone have any excuses i could use?

  • That you were an irresponsible ass who could have gotten a lot of people hurt...

  • Laying on the ground trick is dishonest but necessary.

  • lol thanks now I can feel confident riding solo!!!!

  • me hace eso de hacerse el muerto y cuando se levante le doy una patada en el culo y me cago en su madre

  • Thanks. All I need now is a bike.

  • me too

  • I dropped my Triumph Tiger once when I skidded on a roundabout in Charlton ,London. The bike weighed 205 kg and I lifted it up using the handle bar and the back pannier frame but I was facing the bike.

It was like doing weight lifting for the first time with too much weights on!! lololol

  • Excellent! thanks for the info

  • This video was excellent. Thank you very much for sharing that with us. None of my biker mates have shared tips like that with me! That will stop the laughing hyenas:-). Thanks again.

  • Comment removed

  • haha, lay on the ground and someone will come and help. Love it ;)

  • @leighharrison Wouldn't people get pissed for faking your lying down? :P

  • Kill switch ASAP! The engine will be running w/o oil and will suffer damage if it runs long.

  • another reason women should only ride on the back seat!!!!

lol just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pretty cool vid, just hope if I ever drop mine I'll be able to attempt to pick it up instead of having to have medics pick me up......

  • Thank you for the post! My bike had blown over in the wind, and together with a neighbour who showed up in a timely fashion (@2am!) we got it up with relative ease. : )

  • If it falls on its side at 2am and the alarm goes off then I find neighbors are on-hand to help all the sooner :p

  • nice video and nice bike lol

  • It's a good video, however he mentions the killswitch, but he never says anything about the hot exhaust(s)... Both those things are equally obvious, but he mentions only one. What's up with that ?

  • I agree that the exhaust is a good point to bring up. Especially since "you" are involving a person who has stopped to help you that more then likely doesn't know anything about bikes. If that's the person going near the exhaust you might want to warn them.

Good vid none the less ;)

  • thanks! this is exactly what u tube is for. sharing knowledge. i've etched these techniques into my memory. i have just bought a R1100GS. i WILL drop it, and i WILL use these methods to pick (try!) it up. i normally use a 250cc, so dropping my gs for the 1st time will be a big shock. thanks once more.

  • Good stuff :)

  • 很标准的扶车姿势

  • Well just pick it up at the guide....easiest way catchword leverage effect..

  • so its true women are weak?

  • Good video for new bike riders. Its not a question of if you will fall, but rather when?

  • The woman could have picked it up herself if she had her feet further away from the seat and took tiny steps back as it was lifting, too much leverage that way. play deads good tho

  • good instructions for anybody. i especially like the playing dead part.

  • thats a huge bike!

  • Not really. The tank bag and rear luggage makes it look taller, and I think the dude is fairly short in stature.

    Good video!

  • basically act dead lol

  • Hola desde España, me parece un video muy explicativo porque esto nos puede pasar a cualquiera y es de mucha ayuda.

    Gracias. Thank you.

  • thank you very much for making this vid. its very helpfull!!

  • great vid, really helpful

  • i like the second option take a rest

  • Great video! This fella should be an instructor if he isn't already; he's very confident and happy to share his knowledge. Thank you!

  • oh nice!!!

  • georgia is bigger than the dude

  • You'd make a real good teacher. Great video.

  • I wish I had seen this before I picked my bike up (by myself) yesterday. My back is killing me!!!:(

  • haha, me too! i dropped my 2008 F650GS (a bit heavier than this model!) at a petrol station and panicked so i picked it up whilst facing it. I sometimes Get a sore back when i do heavy lifting now, i think it's down to picking the bike up the wrong way...

  • ha ha. hey, nice dude! I got a 2008 gs500. How do you like the 650? is it your first bike?

  • I considered one of those before i bought the BMW actually! nice bikes!

Yeah, it's my 1st one since passing my 'real' test and i cant fault it. I've rode a few 600/750s, on private land of course ;)but this one seeed right.

The standard screen is a joke but i just got a taller 'touratech' and its 100% better. Oh, and i don't have to stick to 4'000RPM now it's had its 1st service! wooooo!

  • ya, 4000 rpm sux... I like to hear the thing scream! Like music to my ears! It was a pain having to wait so long for the first service.

  • haha, yeah... its more of a bark or a roar... its addictive as hell!

  • At 387 lbs (dry), isn't a 650GS one of the lighter bikes?! Try doing this to my K1200RS (586 lbs).

  • Dependes on how the weight (center of gravity) is disposed. In your bike the weight os "down" there. Not in the F650.

  • Awesome video, Thanks for the upload!

  • how easy would it be to pick up a light bike like a ninja 250r?

haha what if the bystranger tries to rob poor supposedly-dead Georgia?

  • ninjas are around 300 pounds. so if you can squat like 100+ pound you should be ok.

  • you go to the gym and practice squats

  • the first thing you do after you turn it off is not to put the kickstand down or to pick it up you have to turn the gas off or it could all leak out or the oil and gas could get mixed up is it is on it's side.

  • Umm... yeah, if you have a bike that's not fuel injected, that's what you should do. Folks with fuel injected bikes, you can ignore his comment.

  • LOL, lay down too, that was funny, but true, if you're standing, ppl will think you're okay and keep going

  • Hey! Thanks alot for the info!

    Peace

    Massy

  • thats harsh,if you cant pick it up don't ride it,if you cant start it dont ride it. This guys a goof lmao.

  • many bikes are too heavy to pick up easyly...

but I think this is a godd way with which most people can pick up heavy bikes (like in the video)

  • This a great instructional video. Thanks for posting it.

Is it possible that you or someone can create a video to show how to pick up a bike on a hill when the tank is facing down hill and wheels are up hill?

I have done it a few times but it doesn't seem to get any easier. Dragging the front wheel around does seem to help a little but I'm thinking there has got to be a more solid, practiced technique riders use.

    Thanks

  • very helpful ...

  • Finally, mystery solved. I never thought to use my hands, legs and back. I thought if I stared at it long enough, it would stand back up on it's own. Aren't bikes equipped with that feature now?

  • I dropped my bike today in a public area, it was embarassing :( luckily no damage though

  • nice thank you, i wonder if the second person who's hapily riding his car sees me on the ground will they really come to help? will they feel happy when i say i'm alright but i just need help lifting my bike?

  • This technique works great. I'm a 57 year old female and don't pretend to be strong enough to pick up a 700 lb bike. I (gently on a protected surface) laid my bike down and practiced. It works! Georgia was NOT using her legs!

  • LOL never thought about playing dead, great idea!

  • i dropped my suzuki gz125 the other week, was gonna try this technique, but had non handle on the back to grab on to!

luckily i realised i can pick my bike up by just grabbing on handle bar and pulling up! haha

  • great video - thanks guys.

hope i never need to use the technique.

    Alan (Manchester UK)

  • Geat video excelent advice...but you gotta be strong to pull it up thou, see georgia couldn't pick it up. Good advice on getting help.

  • Good stuff maynord, for us newbies. I'm thinking of getting a BMW K1200LT. It's a heavy bike. I'm short in the leg department but I hear it sits pretty low. My legs are pretty strong. I could clear 600#'s on an incline press at the gym. Bikes however take good techniques to get them up. At present own an old loopframe Guzzi.

  • Excellent vid, thanks for the effort.

One thing I'd add (not sure if it was mentioned) is to put the bike in gear (after you click the kill switch), that way it can't "roll off" the side stand...

  • This is great for most situations; I have a HD Street Glide; almost 800 lbs. I had to set it down on the crown of an intersection. Could not pick it up due to the road curve. Got mad; turned around, and lifted it BY MYSELF. Sweating like crazy but felt good about getting the bike up! I'm 5'8" and 140lbs. All the while, 4 guys in trucks watched me. No help offers! Go figure.

  • The psychological term for the guys in the truck is called, "pluralistic ignorance" or the "Bystander effect". Search it out, if you like that sort of thing.

  • Sorry this should be attached to gr8legs2 comment below.

  • Great info...thanks.

  • God i wish i had thought of this last night...

I came off my CB500 last night in rain I had just filled up after a long trip and was so tired it was crazy...

For the life of me i couldnt pick it up... if i had thought of this method i may have had a chance :p

Lucky for me some people came by in a car and helped me pull it up :/ i hate wet roads

  • Now if you can explain to me how to pick up a bike in really slippery mud - I'd appreciate it. I hope I never need this but it's nice to know my back won't suffer if it does.

  • Hey it worked!!!!I am 5'5",125 lbs.I dropped my sporster last week and could not pick it up.Well today I dropped my husbands Road king!!!!I came in from the garage watched this video and I picked it up!!!!!I was frustrated at first but I listened to what he was saying and it worked!Wow, being a small woman, i cant thank you enough!!!!

  • also a good idea to turn off the fuel tap as soon as possible, even before you spit the sand out of your mouth. Lying on its side could cause the carb to flood which makes starting difficult.

  • FI bikes have no "tap". :-)

  • maybe he referred to fuel switch....

  • FI bikes have no fuel switch.

  • He said kill switch ;)

  • i would also add to be sure the bike is in gear. nice vid!

  • Glad to know this! Dropped my bike a couple of weeks ago trying to turn around in the drive. I wasn't able to get it up on my own so had to call my husband at work to come help me out. This is the technique he used. We're going to have a 'practice' day for me so if it happens again I'll be more prepared. Thanks for the video!

  • COOL!!!!!

  • nice video

  • Great video. I just want to say that it's very hard to do this when the bike is on its side on a gravel driveway. So hard to get solid footing.

  • Great Job. One observation though. It should be explained that the person who is picking up the bike should have his/her butt near the "pivot" angle of the bike. aproximately in the center of the seat, as he/she pushes against it.

  • nice vid!

  • Great video, thanks!

    Ed, Holland

  • nice video..many thanks

  • good clear infomation, Good to know i'm getting a bike soon. Thanks

  • useful information, thanks

  • Interesting, I have an FJ1200 and I the only time I had to pick it up, I did it a different way, I put my foot against the front wheel, grabbed the handlebar and leaned backwards and my weight pull it up.

  • i laughed...great technique for if you don't have someone to help lift your bike

  • me too!

  • Thank you, from Taiwan.

  • Great video, thanks for dropping your bike 3 times for us! ;)

  • muy buén video y muy explicativo , gracias

  • Thank you! ;)

  • pretty good. but if you can't pick up your bike by yourself you shouldn't be riding.

  • Haha nice tricks. Thanks.

  • gracias!! es muy util aunque espero no necesitarlo nunca jeje

  • thanks

  • Thanks...

  • great video
