observe this lack of soul rusty elbowed tight wristed stiff docile flat coked out group of men who just walked out of a JC Penny Catalogue to waste your time for six minutes, then watch a better version of Jeff Beck playing this, there are plenty of them
best time i saw him was with stevie ray '87,two respectful players giving it their all with terry bozio on drums to boot
Jeff Beck is the master!!!! Just saw him @ Foxwoods a few months ago, he is just incredible. I see some think he's to technical, he's just that good. Jeff isn't into sloppy guitar work.
Jeff is IMHO the most outstanding guitar player EVER... i just find it unbelievable every time i hear him play... Yer right: Phillips is on drums, hopkings on piano and fairweather low singing (he's by the way one of the finest rhythm guitarists too)
I saw Jeff in concert back in June. This man can do things with a guitar that others just cant do. His use of the tremelo bar is unlike anyone else. Some people will use it a little he'll hold onto the thing the whole song and still be hitting insane notes, messing with the volume and tone settings on his guitar all at the same time. The man is a multitasker like no other. Clapton even says he couldnt imagine doing the things Jeff does with his right hand.
@Aaronjrh I agree. I think the video of him and Vaughan show the way it should sound, and thats the way Vaughan plays it...gritty and dirty! Jeff Beck is good, but I can think of many better like Jimmy Paige, SRV, and others. I know this will catch shit , but I think Beck is way overrated. He plays guitar great, but doesn't have his own unique sound like the 2 above. When you hear them play you hear their heart and soul. Beck sounds like a sessions guitarist, too crisp, clean, proper. Clinical.
Just got back from the Foxwoods show. Jeff Beck gets better and better with age!!! His performance was incredible, Beck is the greatest guitarist around!!!!
@chihawks2010 Find the vid of roy clark and eric clapton from SNL. They were doing "dueling guitars".. eric finally threw up his hands in surrender, mr clark is a virtuoso string player. he can play violin along w/ any of the classical greats.. In my book Hendrix is God, however I will never forget the lesson roy gave eric! most of us wouldn't think about country musicians and virtuosity... jeff beck is the guitarist's guitarist.
great performance of this song. But one of my favourite covers of this Don Nix classic comes from a quite unknown band called Freedom (it appears in their last album in 1972)
Was at this tour Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1983 still have program from show didn't go home for two days ex-girlfriend was mad at me i wonder why!!!!!!!!!!! Oh! My!
@rogcuadra I agree about the EVH pick thing and I love V H But Jeff B doesnt use a pick anymore I saw hin with the Tarbirds and back then he did He is in a League of his own for sure eddy is great but there is only 1 Jeff Beck
@cinema33 I wouldn't doubt it. Jeff Beck really underwent a transformation over the years, definitely the most talented guitarist to come out of the Yardbirds, and that's hard for me to say because I love Zeppelin, but Jimmy can't play too well these days.

stevie was a great guitarist but he stole all his licks... he does'nt come close to beck..not even the same leage beck and clapton.. =top notch..stevie is robert cray with distortion& a phase shifter
Is that a fact ?! Come on, it can't be ! Not that there's anything wrong with Clapton, I love Clapton...but Beck shouldn't play second guitar to ANYONE !
He does this song in two keys primarily: D and G. This is in the key of D here. Basically a I, IV, V progression. Simple tune by Freddy King. You should see him play it. Freddy's version is very good too.
It's great to see a live version of this song. I do prefer the studio version more. Beck is known as a studio artist. He's in a class by himself, " Blow by Blow is all studio....and Jeff did all the instruments on it....masterpiece.
Picks? We don't need no steeenking picks !:P!:P Saw JB about 3 years before this, front row, right in front of him. The man OWNS the guitar. He did more with his instrument, in so many different ways, that he held your attention throughout the show. It truly was a master-class experience. Peace:)
Could not agree more. I admire him for his total control even when he seems to be out of control. I saw him warm up Santana in '95. Now he has Tal Wilkenfeld playing bass and She complments his style so well ...check her out...young beautiful and talented
your kidding right Stevie knows more about everything to do with music. Watch Vaughn and Beck play this Beck cant even comp stevies solo. Im not saying Becks bad Im just saying Stevies better
If you knew guitar you'd know what Beck does is much harder than what SRV did. I'm a fan of both, but Beck was/is the more technically gifted and creative guitarist.

I like it how JB just give Ronnie Wood the lead I bet beck was thinking yeah I know I'm good but I'll let you get the lead for once and Jeff Beck doesn't care he's just having fun
Ranking has a lot to do with what you were doing adn who you were doing it with when you first heard it. University of GA, 1982, and this song was the freakin' bomb! What a great party/drinking/smoking song! So it ranks right up there with me, and so does Beck. He's like Iggy Pop without the heroin. And a better guitar player :)
Stop trying to rate guitarists! If you're one of these YT idiots who likes to categorize and rank guitarists as if it's a competition then you just don't have a clue to begin with! The studio version is amazing! Im Going Down is my all time favorite guitar song, this after I learned to play "Voodoo Chile, Slight Return" on guitar.
simon phillips, as well as cozy powell, steve lukather and others musicians are very easy to find here in youtube, even when we aren't searching for them...
Agree with strandwolf. A lot of good years of fine guitar playing and associated performances and recording by Mr. Beck. Anybody have the Jeff Beck Group original version of this tune? Clean crisp smooth. Post it if ya got it. Please.
I have no idea where rock and roll will be 20 years up the line but Jeff Beck has been the pinnacle from 1963 to 2007. What a career so far, at least when he tends to the music rather than the automobilin'.
I fucking love Beck but that fucking retarded whammy bar - if there were ever a guitar player that DIDN'T need one, it's Beck.
