One problem about our stringsetters is: when the pins are drawn up into their 'spotting cells' i guess i'll call them, they come back down again fast, leading to corners falling into gutters, the headpin WAYY off spot, and in general, really weird-looking setups, lol
Next time I'm bowling I'll bring my Cam along and try and show you all, lol
I really don't see how string pins can land on the lane from the pinsetter and be out of place. The only time I've ever seen that happen was when old knots from a previous string break were left inside the pin and not removed from the pin by the person who did the repair. Sometimes the tail of the old knot falls outside the pin underneath it's base causing it to tip over or move when it comes back down from the pinsetter.
how do you manage to not hook the ball? as a tenpin bowler, i can't help but hook the five-pin ball into the gutter when i tried it the other day. managed to get 189, though. is that good?
Although 450 is a perfect game, 189 is a pretty good score for someone who is not used to 5 pin.
The ball does hook about 3/4 the way down the lane but it's a slow hook. The ball is delivered with a forceful forward movement and first hits the wood about two to three feet out from the foul line. It is also delivered with an extremely hard clockwise rotation ..so fast that the ball rotates in place until it's rotation slows and it grabs ... about 3/4 of the way down the lane. It takes practice
yep. My local center is ten-pin only (not that common in Canada!) so I have to go quite a ways to find a 5 pin place. only ever played about 6 or 7 five-pin games. also, I notice that you took a two-step approach. Is that common in 5 pin bowling? when I tried it I used a modified 4-step but when I play tenpin i usually do 5-step.
The two step delivery is a bit of a modification of the standard 5 pin delivery....which is normally 3 sometimes 4 steps ....depending on the individual.
The ball also makes it's first contact with the wood much closer to foul line than normal 5 pin delivery. That gives the hard, clockwise rotation a chance to slow down and grab the woods surface before it's too far down the lane.
189 is a respectable score for five pin especially considering that you haven't done it too much. To prevent the ball from hooking you must hold your wrist straight and point your middle finger straight toward the headpin. Although hook balls do work, straight balls are preferable as hook balls are more likely to end up with aces or leave a corner pin up. It is possible for the ball to go between the headpin and the 3 pin and hit nothing if the ball is hooked like tenpin.
Another time I wish I had a cam is when I seen a guy throw 17, lol yeah 17! He knocked a pin, i don't know which one, into the other lane and took out a 2-pin,lol.Did it count? of course not! but I wish it did! that was in oh, 1993.
Oh, absolutely not. I've never heard Celine Dion in any bowling alley I've ever bowled in. Our bowling alleys play pretty much the same music that yours do in the States. My bowling alley even has 92" screens playing music videos during glow bowling.
No, that's definately Celine Dion. However, that music was added to the video clip. That kind of music is almost never heard in our bowling alleys. This summer, I think Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" was probably played in my bowling alley the most.
Oh, Ok... The reason I thought that it was added to the clip as I didn't hear anything else... I managed to pull off 2 five baggers last week... Keep up the good work! We need more 5 pin videos on here.
I want to bowl 5 pin bowling!! where are these alleys, I don't think I have ever seen one around anywhere, and I have been to pretty much every state in America bowling on the PBA tour(well with them, not on it yet), and no where I have been has had this :(
oh ok, well I cant go with the tour into another country until im 21, so I guess ill have to wait to be able to play 5 pin, looks cool, so its just like my bowling here just without 10, and a little ball? or is there more differences?
There are a few more differences, too... You also get 3 balls per frame instead of 2. It also is tougher because it is possible to take out any one pin at a time. If you do come up with friends to play five pin, I strongly recommend that you try a game of bingo bowling, too. The score computer has 25 scores on it, and you have to pick certain pins to get them. Whichever team or individual who cleans the bingo card wins. It's really challenging and a lot of fun!
It's all in the 10th between a 3 or a 4, lol , speaking of weird spares, my bowling bud made a 3-2 spare,3 right side and 2 left. Hes one of those guys who throws the ball like at 500 mph, the string pulled the 2 over, lol!
lol costed u the 390? wtf.. lol .. i kno this girl who bitches and bitches..she'll get 350 and be like "oh nooo i wanted 375 :(" it really is pathetic to watch
my highest game is 380, and im only 15, :p lol

Actually after i posted this my record became 10 in a row then i got a left corner and finished the game by missing it.
Gigatone00 2 years ago
thats some heavy movement on that ball, pretty dry lanes over there. Not an easy ball to throw for sure. Where you bowling out of?

Nice job! Can anyone tell me where to find proffessional 5 pin bowling videos? Thanks.
ThePhatHeadShow 2 years ago
My record is also 8 in a row. but i threw a two pin right after it... it was so embarassing lol

Freefall for 5pin.
as one YTer said before: strings on pins is like tying a deer to a tree and calling it hunting. ;)
I feel bad as a 5pin bowler. our game deserves the same as 10 pin buds.
Freefall!
I had a dream once of a GSX 5-pin version!!
EdmDude 3 years ago
double diamonds' are pretty much a 5-pin GSX.
KanadianKyuubi 2 years ago
i agree

i love bowling in a freefall house, its like having a 15 pin handicap every time i walk into a string house. :)
AWJFunk 2 years ago
no, the game is not that easy, trust me, i have bowled for 11 years now, its harder than it looks

Also, although this song really suits this video, who can deny that is doesn't suit glow bowling with disco balls and a really good sound system?
5pinTy 3 years ago
LOL - one of the funniest things I've seen is bowling with the rings off.
"hey, the pins not being safe, he's not wearing a rubber!" :D
You can't get a strike, I've only gotten 12! always leaving the 3-pin up, anyways, i wish I had gotten footage of that night in 2006!

That's about it for differences. Perfect game is 450 - 10 frames per game - strike count is 15 plus next two balls. Spare is 15 plus next ball.

There are a few more differences, too... You also get 3 balls per frame instead of 2. It also is tougher because it is possible to take out any one pin at a time. i've spared just about everything.
and i've spared aces, a headpin punch, and a 3-2-2 split on freefall lanes.
i also seem to throw 5-6 12 counts in the course of a season.
i don't throw the ball all that hard, and truth be told 5 pin is not a power game.
AWJFunk 3 years ago
hahaha i've done all of that except sparing aces on stringed machines
coolguy12333 3 years ago
