Oliver Stone has got to be among the top 7 directors of all time IMO. If you liked Platoon, then watch "Born on the 4th of July". I think the two are the best Vietnam films I've ever seen.

Why are so many black soldiers shown in this movie? I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that but this is unrealistic, 90% of the soldiers who fought in Vietnam were white. I love how Hollywood likes to involve fiction instead of fact in their movies.

"The first real movie about Vietnam is Platoon" hm I agree with that I think Apocalypse Now is good but I think Coppolla was trying to hard to be "artsy" and "creative" with that film and the result to me just felt largely like a 70's acid trip film rather than a genuine war film, Platoon however had better characters and was made by a man who was actually there therefore in my opinion the result of Stone's film was much more genuine and straight forward
