All merc have now been retired from track work and now do rail replacement all scania L94 have been replaced by K230 and K320 scanias and the only remaining merc is a 0405 one off bus and a few MAN SL202 do track work as well
What I would like to know: Do the old O 305s have automatic gears? Here in Germany, they have been used mostly with manual gears, automatic gears haven t been so usual for busses, those days. I quess the newer ones do have automatic gears?
Its interesting for me as a german, to see those old O 305s running in Australia.... Here in Germany, the most of these are already taken out of service. When I was a kid, I was riding those wery often - almost no MANs, I growed up near Stuttgart, so it would have been a "sin" to take anything else but Mercedes, for the local urban transporation company... ^^ Greetings to "Down Under"
The O 305 was in the 1970's/1980 the standard urban bus in Germany. The same body was also used by MAN. In the 60's, the public bus companies decided to standardize the busses, to make maintainance more effective. The next generation was standardizied, too.
You picked the right time to make a video. Pretty much all of the current O-Bahn fleet will not be running on it within the next 5-10 years. The O305s and O305Gs will be retired soon, the SL202s may be taken off due to gearbox problems, the L94UBs are coming off due to vibration problems and the K230UBs engines aren't coping too well.
I love this city.Boo Hoo to all you snobs.

I was wondering what those round things on the side of buses were for.

I never even contemplated that people from down South wouldn't know about the O-bahn until recently one of my friends from Lonsdale came to visit.
I told him he could catch the O-bahn back to the city and he was like "What the hell's the O-Bahn?" lol
So I sent him on his first trip.

Only one L94UB runs on the O-Bahn ( 1238 ) the others have been removed. And there are now more K230UB's, now numbered to 1444.

Top 5 things you never knew about the O-Bahn & Buses:
1. The flip down signs at the track entrances say 'Caution: Work On Track'
2. The articulated O-Bahn buses (I think!) are equipped with special weight distribution devices.
3. The O-Bahn test track is located next to Grand Junction Rd.
4. There is a special twin-ended O-Bahn recovery vehicle that rescues stranded buses on the track.
5. A few new buses from VIC and NSW were trailed on the O-Bahn!

I already know about Dumbo ryan. (Referring top point 4.)

Another thing I discovered:
The O-Bahn was manufactured by Beton, an Australian concrete firm.
ryanthescooterguy 2 years ago
I see.
I'm just wondering why Rann has decided to extend the O-Bahn to West Tce.
Worldseries601 2 years ago
Indeed, I really don't see the point in extending it.
But hey people were saying the same thing about the tram and now everyone uses it.

Wow! Even the new buses are having problems. I wonder how TT will get out of that mess.
Worldseries601 3 years ago
An order for new O-Bahn buses (60 rigid and 100 articulated) is due to be announced soon.
venurm1286 3 years ago
OK, it's every bit as weird as it sounded when you described it to me!

The way I see it is. The O-bahn a great success and a disaster at the same time.
