this song is where I got my email address name way back in 1997... my favorite Tori song... I still remember the day i brought the 'China' single home and heard it... i played it at least 20 times over and over that day...
This song is incredible, a Tour de Force...I'm glad you put up the original mix (though the sound on this is pretty glitched). The version on "A Piano" is a remix that removes much of the orchestration (I guess Tori found it too over the top), but I think it sounds empty without it.
I've always thought this should the be the closing credits music for some as yet uncreated movie. Maybe an animated "Flying Dutchman" that tells of a magical ship that takes kids to the stars or something...
I've read that she's calling Rantz Hoseley the Flying Dutchman (as in a Ductch man who flies, as opposed to the ghost ship that dooms boats). Why does he fly? He's a comics creator/editor- which is to say he's the facilitator of dreams and fantasies. He's also responsible for introducing her to Neil Gaiman
Yep, makes mine stand too, especially during the "They can't see what I find out there"...etc. part, starting at about 5:25, where she's accompanying herself with three completely different vocal lines.
She may have the most underrated singing voice of all time. I'd put the power, control, and beauty of her voice up against any singer...ever.
Thanks for the galactic visuals! Super appropriate.

Originally the song was on the 1992 single "China" but recently was put on her compilation "A Piano: The Collection"

@frakfrellfrag The "A Piano" version is different - it is not as epic is this one.

@DerekBayRoberts1 It's a B-sidea, it's not on any oficial album.

What does the Flying Dutchman have to do with this song? I don't see a connection.
