The Treasury creates bonds that they then sell to Primary banks or the Fed. When the Fed buys them (QE2) then they are literally printing money.

@dujac88 Paper money is credit and not backed by anything of real value. Our current currency is based on fiat money and is run on a continual system of debt and inflation. "No State shall... make any Thing but GOLD AND SILVER COIN a Tender in Payment of Debts"; "The Congress shall have Power To... COIN Money, regulate the Value thereof, AND OF foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of WEIGHTS and MEASURES". Paper money is only legal because of past Executive Orders and assumed Emergency Powers.

The important thing to note here is that the power to emit bills of credit (essentially fiat money lite) which existed in the Articles of Confederation, was intentionally left out of the Constitution.

The Treasury creates bonds that they then sell to Primary banks or the Fed. When the Fed buys them (QE2) then they are literally printing money.
You're probably an MBA; me too. I used to think the way you do, until I realized that things didn't add up and looked into alternative resources not approved by our Department of Education overlords.

Is it not a fact that, at a minimum, enough money MUST be created in a given year to pay the debt service on existing Treasury bonds, or there will be a reduction in the supply of money (M2 I believe).
Is it not also a fact that this money comes from central banks in the form of buying (read monetizing) Treasury debt?

I'd say your advanced degree is more "prepackaged" in that you were carefully guided toward an approved philosophy by your university mentors and discouraged from straying from approved thoughts. I've done my time in academia as well; and found much more truth outside the ivy-covered walls.
