there is app called advanced ruler pro that lets you measure distance to an object and the height of said object with a SINGLE CAMERA!! take that @azrienoch. 3d cameras are still a gimmick

@dppatel It's a cool app, I like it. but you have to be able to stand on what you're measuring. It's not the same thing because it doesn't measure from the camera to the point. It measures from your feet to the point. Make sense?

I could have sworn that i used an app like that for my captivate and it does have only one camera but the app still seemed to work...sometimes especially when it was only in beta stages. Maybe someone will make something great.

However, if one could detect a feature point of an image on, say, the left image and then identify the same feature point on the other image and calculate the distance in pixels and converting it to a real distance (either through camera callibration or a table) it might just work...

I'm not sure you can very easily detect the distance using a 3D camera. This is due to the fact that unlike our eyes that can converge to focus a point, a 3D camera has fixed lens, meaning they don't move so triangulation is difficult.

That IS my point. It wasn't an app review. Usually, she does one. This time.. ..nothing. I now know there is an app, but nothing really about it. If her goal was to tell me that an app exists, that it costs $10, that it conservatively uses ammo, then.. ..mission accomplished? Don't get me wrong, I like both of you and I've been a regular viewer for a long time but her effort this week was confusing.

I just read this article (pretty praiseworthy for Android BTW) where Nasa s in tandem with Google using the Nexus 1 sand S to remote control robots in outer space and experimenting geo location with gyros sensor / accelemetor. I can see this comin handy in the near future for Science, to the common as well...

That was an app review? All I know now is that DestroyGunners costs $10, employs ammunition conservation, and has a Halo/SW edge (seemed more MechWarrior'ish, but that might be just me). Don't get me wrong. I'm a BoB fan and nothing has changed that, but isn't an app review suppose to include a "review" part? Also gone is Jeff's creative cinematography of BoB during the review that normally affords the viewer some gratuitous cleavage spelunking, but eh. Are you two on some kind of time limit?
