The songs not really apt., it is a great track but actually and anti-war anti-establishment song which really mocks the army and the brainwashing of the troops
These lads were the Special forces of their day. They were out evolved by warfare and weaponology. Tough bastards, my grandad was one. I used to have a cracking picture of him. It was a platoon of gunners servicing either 3 or 4 guns. sepia colour. All stocky lads, all centre parted with the guns assembled and laid out in front. I asked my mam to send it to me. What did she do, she CUT OUT my grandad and sent me that bit........... She threw away the rest. Fucking WOMEN!! What a loss.
Researching family history, I find that my Grandad was MGC, Berkshire Yeomanry and at Jerusalem in 1917. His diary suggests he was mounted on a vehicle, possibly a Model-T or Rolls Royce
i have a picture in amongst those of my great grandad of someone we think was called george he,s in the machine gun core but other than that we know nothing any ideas where i could find out about this gent??
From where I'm sat at the moment I can see over Belton Park and Harrowby road in Grantham where the MGC had its HQ and all the MGC trained there and Demobbed there.
Some of the unfortunate are buried in Londonthorpe Church yard, it has a great view over Belton Park, they would have liked that.

My Grt Grandad was a founder member of the MGC. Seconded from the Durham Light Infantry. Made it through to the other side and died in the 50's.
