Mr McMurray proved you didnt have to run around swearing in every film to make it to the top, its a shame that most of the better actors are no longer with us
I noticed there was no mention of Fred MacMurray singing with the Gus Arnheim and George Olsen big bands.Try looking for his "I'm In The Market For You" with George Olsen.
This is not a dig at McMurray at all. He was a talented and beloved man... But he was also notoriously cheap. Perhaps that was because he grew up poor, but it was reported that cast and crew of "My Three Sons" were allowed to buy donuts on the set for a dime. MacMurray once tore one in half and left a nickel. As I said, not a dig at him, but an interesting side note.
@ericinwisconsin My Mom died VERY wealthy, and was a miser, of sorts, BUT, she lived as a kid through the Great Depression. She NEVER forgot the pain/suffering associated with that. Now, my sister and I have her $ ... she could have lived a MUCH greater quality of life, instead of becoming the richest person in the graveyard. I'm sure the GREAT Freddie Mac was a product of similar circumstances. As Mr. Douglas, though, he is genuinely missed by me!! Dave Lounder (Film Actor / Exec. Prod.)
@ericinwisconsin I know that a number of the people who either came of age or were young adults during the Depression were always very frugal. The memory of losing everything and having nothing stuck with that Generation for life.
I've always felt MacMurray was (and perhaps still is) one of the most under-appreciated actors of all time. He was adept at both genial comedy and heavy dramatic roles with equal aplomb. His performance in The Caine Mutiny is simply classic!
Three of my favourite films; The Apartment;Caine Mutiny, and Double Indemnity, and Fred was in them all. Loved him.
