What version are you playing there? I much prefer it to others I've heard and I would love to get tablature for it, as I also play archlute.
If you could point me in the direction of where I can find this version, I would be hugely grateful as I think the mellow sound of the archlute is great for Dowland's work, despite what purists might think.
Well, speaking for myself, I prefer this key for the type of ornaments I wish to play. It is quite common to find songs and solo pieces in versions which are a tone apart.
I see, and the original sheet music of this song is in a vastly different assortment, then in modern notation, so yeah, I guess some improvs and key changes are bound to happen. Very good playing, I think you draw the notes out more than the more upbeat versions of this song.
Very softly and joyfully played. I think your is my favorite of this song. I can go back in time, see the castle, the candles, the party guests, ladies in sparkling jewels, the feast etc. Talent is as talent does, and the rest of us are the audience. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Ese laúd es un sueño, una seda. Quiero uno aunque nunca vaya a tocar así!!

How come different lutists play this song differently and even in different keys?

There is no original sheet music for this song, there are only arrangements made by people who lived at the time of Dowland :)
