Not sure, but DART plans on going with CNG as the fuel, so it could be NABI, New Flyer, or Orion. I would honestly love to see New Flyer get the contract and DART go with the restyled 40LF's, they just look cool.
Well I am not sure if you read the information that I put, but I listed it as a DD S50. I said I believe it is an EGR, but thank you for the clarification.
Actually, there is a Series 50EGR diesel engine. You're certain to find them in the DART and Miami (03-041 series) Nabi's. You can also find them in TTC and MARTA's Orion VII diesels and NYCMTA's Model Year 2003 New Flyer D60HFs.
However, you will find the Series 50-EGR engine in buses built between late 2002 and late 2005 (when it was outlawed) in mostly Orion and Nabi's. These have been known to "choke" at takeoff. And I have to say I love that "choking".
I know DART's newer fleet (5500's-5600's) have the DD Series 50. Does anyone know what type of engine DART's older fleet of 4200's-4800's have? Just curious.
It's a Series 50 engine but with ZF transmission DART's Novabus RTS buses have ZF transmissions and the 4200's-4800's those are the ones with the roof ac units those buses are Cummins M11 or ISC powered oh yeah when i was in Dallas back in 2000 those 4200's-4800's series RTS buses were running on LNG fuel but i don't know about them now.
The 4200-4800's are powered by the Cummins ISC engine. I believe some of those buses (especially in the 4600s) are LNG-powered with the Cummins C Gas+ engine.
Series 50G. Nice. I love the sound of the turbo choke.

What year is this RTS? It sounds just like Detroit D-DOT's 2001-02 Nova RTSes.

I have heard some rumblings that we could possibly see new ones arrive as early as December 2009.

@joedfd43 As long as it won't be a Gillig.

this bus has a CNG/LNG boosh boosh boosh when the throttle is depressed.

Yeah I just found out that we have LNG powered vehicles. That is the back fire that you hear.
joedfd43 2 years ago
So this is a DD50G then?
venom2nd 2 years ago
Yeah, I believe it is a DD S50EGR.
joedfd43 2 years ago
it can't be a S50EGR that's a diesel engine. DD50G is the CNG/LNG version of this engine.

I like the takeoff in the very beginning...you can hear a hint of "screaming" in the exhaust.

Love the engine take off at around 2:11. Music!

All of them are Diesel now. Where did you happen to find your info btw?
joedfd43 3 years ago
When i went to Dallas TX back in 2000 those RTS buses had an LNG logo round where the fuel tank opening is located and at the rear.
MAR1NAB5180 3 years ago
Yeah some have that still attached and a lot don't.
joedfd43 3 years ago
That is a Detroir Diesel Series 50 with a VR-731.
