Just because someone overproduced it in a studio, gave it an airbrushed fake sound, and beautified it up doesnt mean that it's the "real song". This is just as beautiful as any version of this song, sung well that is. Even without the vocoder, this song would still be gorgeous.

No, mcrkid is right. Perhaps his reaction was a bit strong, but, just fyi, there is no such thing as "the song". Whatever is on the disk is merely a framework from which to base any future performances. however, the "indie radio version" of the song that you refer to is, in fact, her new, more personalised, way of singing it. Both are "the song" because it's her performing it, meaning it's the way that her song is in her head at the moment, and therefore how she wants it sung.

The thing that makes me think this is a vocal harmonizer is that when she takes a breath, the 'synth' doesn't make any noise. It's only when she makes a tone with her voice. So the things like the the S's and breath don't activate the harmonizer, where it would have if it were a vocoder. Also the pitch detection is a little rough at a few points, which is something that sometimes happens with vocal harmonizers. Just my opinion...

During her whole set I realized I was witnessing a musical genius at work. She uses a Vocoder(type it on wikipedia) which uses her voice and combines it with the sounds from a synthesiser, then when she plays a note on the keyboard and sings, it puts her voice into the synthesised voice and it comes out as the note she plays. so she plays chords, and her voice comes out in those chords. Its hard to explain but simple when you see one demonstrated. try typing vocoder on youtube, c what videos there are
