If you were really concerned with the truth then you must note that The Mayan civilization only existed from 300 Bc to 900AD, Their whole civilization vanished due to many environmental and social adversities. While it is true that most of their history was destroyed, ethnic groups that inhabited America during the Spanish conquest had very little to do with the Mayan civilization, maybe only the Chortis could be argued to be real Mayan descendants, but even they lost almost all Mayan tradition.

If you were really concerned with the truth then you must note that The Mayan civilization only existed from 300 Bc to 900AD, Their whole civilization vanished due to many environmental and social adversities. While it is true that most of their history was destroyed, ethnic groups that inhabited America during the Spanish conquest had very little to do with the Mayan civilization, maybe only the Chortis could be argued to be real Mayan descendants, but even they lost almost all Mayan tradition.

Um... I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the end of the Long Count was predicted by STONE calendars found in Mayan cities. The story told about the drastic change at the end of the Long Count came from inscriptions in temple walls. The Mayans didn't use paper. They carved their histories in stone. The documents burned by the priest were transcribed copies made by earlier priests with less of a zealous nature. The truth was never actually lost.

Same with the 'Jesus myth'. Arguably the single most well known figure of human history yet not a single shred of physical proof that such a man ever existed on the earth. Not a single sandal strap, coin purse, robe. You certainly would think that someone along the way would have thought to preserve his burial cloth or how about that crown of thorns. Where's that? All we have is one book, written by simple folk years later with absolutely zero contemporary corroboration. Maybe it's all B.S.

FIRST: Not ALL Mayan history was destroyed. Much of the codex for their writing was, but through the efforts of many scolars over hjundreds of years the Calendar can now be decoded to a great degree. Also, Maya is not the only society whose esoteric myth points to December 2012 prophetically. There are many other cultures that do so. Finally, there is no "Mayan Prophecy". There never was. There is a CALENDAR. Geez...

even though the records were burned mayans and other cutltures keep the prophecies alive by handing down VERBALLY the stories. The mayans and hopi and other indigenous peoples from all over the world have very similar prophecies. I know in hopi, you have to learn it word for word, not changing it by one word or you will not be able to pass it down to the next generation. I have a feeling it would be the same for maya and others.
