  • Yes I must agree to desagree with the tahitian saw a maori dance hawaiin style looked more hula styles than traditional maori kapa haka or as the cook islands call it kapa rima not sure bout the taihitian word? but it was diffinitely a hollywood tourist dance or wat eva u want to call it, !!!...

  • This isnʻt even considered Tahitian! Sorry to disappoint you but this is Hollywood. I'm a Tahitian, I should know ;)

  • for those who do not know the difference, hula simply is a dance form accompanied by chant or song. in its purest form it means dance, hawaii calls it hula, tahitians call it tamure, aparima, farapu subject to type of style, rarotonga, cook islanders call it ura, ura pau, ura penu aparima, etc, samoan calls it siva, fijians meke and so forth, The europeans say lets dance, hawaii lets hula, cook islanders lets ura, samoans lets siva etc etc. my pennys worth.

  • Totally Tahitian. I remember this song xD

  • I'm sorry but this is not hula it is tahitian...

  • IT LOOKS LIKE IT! TIN IT IS TAHITIAN

  • rasheed106 - did you mean sacred & not scared. Sacred it is not neither rare. Hula too. Please people get to know all the Poly Islands before you make a comment.

It's like saying, a mexican is a puerto rican. Polynesia means many islands. We polynesians take offense when you say it's one thing but it's actually something else. FYI Aloha

  • I swear this looks like the same girls and same exact dance I saw when we went to Maui in 2006. Was this Luau at the Maui Prince Hotel? It was awesome !!!

  • it is like, you know tahitian

  • Its not Hawai´ian,

    Its not Hula,

    Its not weak,

    and without auana, touri-style, kinda-music

it would even be nice, since hipdance is simply sexy for any alive man. ehh.

  • I am not spitting on nothing or nobody

and i dont even understand ur comment.

    sry

  • these girls look weak and not as strong as the other hula dancers from the merrie monarch postings. just a lot of hip shaking without much technique...eh. This seems like something for drunk tourists

  • HAHAHA. "wthout much technique"????? did you try it? Obviously not! lets try, not only shaking your ass side to side like any "drunk tourists" but like how tthese excellent girls did! And you'll understand how difficult is....

  • The Merrie Monarch dancers do hula; this is Tahitian dancing for tourists.

  • It's no coincidence that the Hula is so similar to 'belly dancing' in Egypt. The source of this dance is Isis, our former Goddess Queen. She is the owner and the keeper. She, of course, did this dance with grace and fine linen, rather than a tribal grass skirt!

  • By the way, this is Tahitian Aparima and Otea, not hula which is Hawaiian.

  • The reason it's almost identical, even though the islands are far apart, is because the same group of origin settled these areas, Indonesia as well. They'd brought 2 things with them which became known as 'native': Bellydance, and the game "Checkers". Bellydance is the dance of Isis, our former Queen.

  • mannnnnn! i love this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey man thanks for posting the video. I guess the consensus is that this dance isn't hula. But no worries, I would probably have made a similar mistake. Anyway, just out of curiosity and cuz it seemed to look familiar--is this by any chance the luau @ the Prince Hotel in Wailea? I'm only asking cuz i just went to Maui a couple weeks ago and went to that show and it looks really familiar...:-)

  • i wanna learn to do that

  • so sexy

  • This is Fijian Dance

  • Really? It looks like it's from the Tahiti islands or from the Cook Islands. You know. With the fast movements. And slow. Because I know that in a certain Tahiti Dance thing, forgot what it's called, it's a mixture of fast moving hips as well as slow. But the video is def. not Hula.

  • Hula is exciting and fun people that talk about it is only making themselves look bad by wat they are saying!!

  • How would yous know its just a dance get over it!!

  • lol cool dance but this isn't hula. although i forgot the name of what it really is

  • tahiti?

  • how the hell would u know? dik face

  • ....BAJAJAJAA! im sorry, bu THIS is not rare neither sacred. sounds and looks pretty touristy :P

but hey, it does look funn to do :)

  • do u effing know hula? this is tahitian you retard-o i do tahitian for 6 years this is tahitian chanting look closer at the attire too mother fu****

  • calm down why are u getting so agressive over a 1minute vid some1 needs 2 take a chill pill and get a life

  • im not mad im just sayin that i have been doing hula for years and i know. im just protecting my culture from people who can't get THEIR facts straight how about you get a life?

  • obviously someone's OVERLY sensitive about their culture... cuckoo!cuckoo! hehehehe... sorry lotatdrama... i'm a polynesian dancer as well as there really is no need to be so aggressive and mean about it. it just makes you look ignorant yourself when you criticize others for trying.

  • Oh Rasheed, Rasheed - get your facts right. This piece is NEITHER rare or hula. The language alone tells you it's from French Polynesia. The attire obviously is NOT Hawaiian. It's very clear this is performance for tourists. And a tight group too! Thank you ladies!

  • Gogogo Maui f.c lol

  • I love Tahitian dancers... just brilliant :)

  • Modern HULA maybe xD

  • hahahahhahahahhaha "hula"?

  • Hula?!

  • LMFAO They're even singing in tahitian how the hell do you mix this up with hula?

  • Please this is not Hula not even Tahitian, don't insult us. This looks more like a performance at some tourist show.

  • I feel you on that.

  • Totally

  • It probably is. It looks like modern hula. It's just the new-age. Don't hate, seriously. I do modern belly dance, and I see nothing wrong with it. Granted, this show was very touristy, but modern hula can be just as beautiful and interesting as its roots. Modern belly is very charming.

  • This is NOT Hula , Its Tahitian .. a dance from Tahiti

  • NOT HULA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This aint hula ... i think its a apiarama or just tahitian ... n-e way luhv this and the song!

  • go to jaredluchsinger . worldventures . biz if you are interested in learning how to travel for less and make extra money

  • this isn't hula. its a dance called tamure from tahiti.

  • I saw them in Hawaii they're great

  • Great music, rockin' hula dancing.

  • I'd have to agree this is tahitian, however I feel Cook Island tamure is more graceful as I see it a lot more in Aotearoa (NZ) than Tahitian, but however I'm true blue Maori boy!

  • OK I do hula and it is fun I love tihishion becouse you move your acolo (butt) more it is a beutiful gracful thing to do I love.

  • I love Tahitian dancers... sexy action and Te Aloha.. but that music sounds like the Tiki Room at Disneyland..

  • Mahalo for the beautiful hula video. Great music too.

  • beautiful.

i love this video. im takin hula/tahitian dance lessons and hope to be this good one day!

  • i was going to correct you but i see you've already gotten the message by now. please educate yourself :]

  • They're even singing in tahitian...how can you mistake dis for hula?

  • This isnt even hula it looks tahitian

  • Rasheed, what rare footage you talking about? There is nothing rare about modern day hula. It has more spiritual meaning than anything. Body and movement hence expression.

  • this isnt hula it is Tahitian theres a big difference...

  • good very good, beautiful

  • actually its TAHITIAN. Not hula.

  • Not Hawaiian Hula, Tahitian dance - - a big hit always with locals and tourists.

  • this is a dance from the cook islands and tahiti..aparima

  • this is tahitian for who ever posted dis video....

  • The Aparima tells a story set to music and mimed by gracious gestures of the hands. Thats the luau at the Maui Prince Hotel... the show includes entertainment from throughout polynesia.

  • awesome! i work for this company and danced couple times at this show. Big difference from doing the show from watching it from the audience! It looks good from the audience! BTW--this song and dance is Tuamotu origin.

  • Ke' teo teo pe' Bora Bora.

  • Sweet Hawaii!

  • this aint rare. if you live in hawaii you see it all the time. ptfff. i danced for seven years and i'm sick of all the pervert guys.

  • thats tahitian hun..

  • damn they can dance!!!

  • nice video...but it not hula...it's TAHITIAN = )

  • Yeah, this "rare" and "sacred" show is like complimentary entertainment all over hawaii. Stifle the melodrama.

  • haha youur funny
