I'm listening to this on my hard drive speaker, it's pretty loud (can't wait to install surround sound, it's the only time I'd buy a broken hard drive.)

Rather than the needle, I connected the two wires to the drive platter motor wires. The platter vibrates somewhat, and it gets hot. The needle doesn't move, but tis' alright.

The only problem is sometimes you'll hear a screech, metal on meal or a noise it can't play, or a weird frequency due to rattling...

Because the hard drive discs are balanced resting on a precision bearings audio output connected to them makes noise. big deal. I was over it when I was 8 years old. you need to hook up a high pass filter lol.. they seem to really struggle with low frequency

I found that taking the platters out, taking out the plastic peg that stops the arm from swinging out too far, and tightening up the screws on the metal plate holding the arm improves the sound quite a bit.

for bass you need to wire up another amp to REALLY boost the signal, and run that super amped signal onto the MOTOR wires of the drive, it wont make the drive spin, but it will vibrate the metal disk alot creating bass frequencies ^^ thats what i did anyways

They sound better not on the video. I also found it's much better if you turn off bass boost on the ipod and put it to bass reduce.

I wouldn't say 4/10 for application, i would say 4/10 for sound quality. It's not my fault the hard drives don't sound great!
