I had my deviated septum fixed but I still have sinus problems. I can go months with no problems and then I will have a couple of weeks where I can't breath without my nose drops. It seems to be a swelling problems more then anything else.
This is super-scary.. I've got sinus issues & the last thing i'd want is to have some shit sliced up in my nose... Looks like I might need to one day though... Great Vid!
im on wednesday now and i had my septoplasty done on friday last week ,im still dripping small amounts of blood and my right side of my nose (where i had the problem) is still swollen and my breathing is still poor though my left is ok ,how long will this take to clear,oh and im off work for 2 weeks, steve
Because it's so distracting, it's usually a mistake to use such beautiful background music in educational materials - especially the divine music of Mozart, the greatest genius in any field of human endeavor at any time. Hail Mozart! Hail Mozart!! Hail Mozart!!!
can someone please tell me what is this music ? i listen to it on my dad's car quite often now for like 7 years, but neither him nor me have the knowledge of the composer or title..
@mostlylogical This is Piano Concerto 21, some of the divine music of Mozart, the greatest genius in any field of human endeavor at any time. Hail Mozart! Hail Mozart!! Hail Mozart!!!
After this operation i woke up feeling like the worst hangover you could possibly imagine, i puked blood and felt like total shit, you have to sleep the first night with your nose 100 % clogged with tissue. And having it pulled the next day.. well i hope you took your pain killers :) - Oh, and i can breathe!!
@13crypton I had the operation when i was 22 and im now 25, the operation was a total success, except for afterwards i was doped up on the pills and ruined a few of my stiches, now i need another operation to this day i still wear breath strips but its not as bad as it was. My advice is as long as your healthy do the operation, its hard on the body but as long as you dont smoke and arent really fat you should be fine. I smoke and am a bit overweight and really felt like shit when i woke up.
Im 19 years old, and one of my nostorls dont know if thats how u spell it but anyways one of them is always blocked like 27/7 it changes from right to left or left to right..every hour or so..its very rare for both to be unblocked..i hate this i cant sleep i cant breath, i cant study properly :( , this has been going on for about 3 years know i wasnt so bad a first but it just keeps getin worst.. my nose is a bit tilted to right..could it be my septum?? or somethin else..?
my right nose gets blocked every time i go to sleep and my left nose just get blocked a little ...i tried to breath the normal way(in from the nose and out from the mouth) but i didnt get enuf air T-T

I had this problem for many years, finally got tired of it. I couldnt smell, as well as it affected my taste. I went to an ear, nose, throat, and allergy specialist. Same signs that you have stated. Did the initial examination, and a ct scan. Surgery was the solution. Deviated septum, nasal polyps. I had surgery last week, I can already tell a difference! Still alittle swollen, but I can breathe. I was pretty nervous about this, but I REALLY was tired of this! Wow it was worth it. Insurance!!!
This answer is simple. The movie above don't answer that one. Its called the "nasal cycle" All people have this symptoms. Only some people knows. Thats the secret of snoring, sleep apnea, and all products and services around it! make up your mind.
ps. keep your sinus clean, like you clean your teeth and the rest of your body. look-up "nasal Cycle"
Had couple of surgeries on my nose, but still having heavy nose congestion and head pressure, now all doctors recommend for me to reduce turbinates. However my nose is also very dry and im afraid that after that surgery it can get worse and cause empty nose syndrome. Rly dunno what to do://
@armyboy24 I have the same problem. It is he blood vessels in your nose swelling that causes this i.e. if you have a cold, allegy or polyps etc.. when you sleep on one side, blood drains from one side of your nose to the other and will swell the blood vessels in that nostril which will block it, the other has no blood hence why its clear. When you turn over the opposite thing happens. Took me ages to find this out! hope it helps. Fenox drops often help constrict nose blood vessels.
This by far is the best explantion of symptoms, my son had the deviated septum and my guess is due to the thicknees of his bones and turbinates as the Doc said his septum was 12 folders thick and should of been only one, as we could define an injury to the area nor during birth, my guess anyway... Thanks Much this is great material...
can i ask a question, I HAVE A BLOCKED NOSE AT NIGHT TIMES, OR sometimes in the afternoon. Its to a point i have to have an inhalor, vicks under my nose and go to sleep with lozenges. I did have an xray recently for my teeth and so las bit of video, dont have large androids, but im questioning, this is happening alot. fromtop of my nose (in between my eyes) to bottom tip, and literally when i lie down i cant breathe! I have colds alot, but nothing comes out, its just blocked!
what kind of medication can be used to treat inferior turbinate enlargement (soft tissue swelling)? can be used inyectable corticosteroid into the turbinate?
A divated septum is correctable only for a limited time. It continues to grow and will then cause problems in the future. The best solution is to use a nasal irrigator with a sea water mixture. I have had ENT doctors advise just make sure that your nose stays clear and properly moisturized not over moisturized
i have heard submucous resection is safer because it preserves the mucosa. I have also talked to people who ares suffering with submucosal resection. I would have like to be informed of the real risks of the surgery i would never have done it. Even if it was 1/1000 chance the suffering is too extreme. I also believe its not all or none people can suffer in so many ways. I believe there are the catastrophic results.
i need the surgery as well and should be getting it around thanksgiving.how does splitting the turbinate in half down the middle(removing half of the inside and half the outside, exposing the inside)allow the turbinate to still work properly?? This question could be confusing
i just had surgery to help my sinus which included removal of the concha bullosa, turbinate reduction and some work with ethmoid and maxillary area... so i will let you know once my stents are removed .. i also sound like i have a cold even when i don't ... but i do believe this has helped already.. ive been stuffy for so long that even with these stents in i breath far better than i did without...so i will let you know.....
i never heard of steroids breaking down polyps... steroids will only reduce them and i believe it s temporarily..
you're talking about a structure .. don't think it will break down from medication.. .only reduce.. if any one out there would like to correct the above statement do so....its welcomed.
Thank you very much even it is not in my lunguage iunderstand very much what is happening in my nose !!all so my doctor gave me a medicine for 20 days and my nose is much better .we will see when the medic ends if my nose still be open!!thanks anyway!
I have always had nose problems, and i produce way too much mucus. Im sick, and in the past two days, i have used 9 rolls of toilet paper and my nose becomes raw and bloody. Often, when i am not sick, or have mucus, my nasal passages are completely closed allowing nno air in. So i really want to get rid of this and i dont know the best way.. The last time that i was able to breath without one nostril completely closed was about 5 months ago... my nose is HORRIBLE!!! i also cant taste well
Geez, I hear you on that. I am the exact same way and yet none of my friends are like this. I must have gone through 100000x more kleenex in my lifetime than they have. Sucks.
I have a question. all my lfe I am had chronic excess mucus and nose blockage, and it never seems to go away. sometimes when I shake my head I can actually feel & hear something sloshing around in my face. it's quite discomforting (not to mention disgusting) and I have no idea what the fuck is up with it. anyone every heard of this before?
I seem to only have the alar collapsing slightly problem, because when I use breathe right strips I can breathe through my nose as well as I can through my mouth, but take off the strip and it's extremely uncomfortable to struggle to breathe through my nose.
I recently ordered nasal cones so that I can breathe through my nose without ignorant people asking me who broke my nose.
u know i couldnt breathe through my nose for a few years but NOW i CAN! it just happened! but....i dont no how da hell it happened but well im reALLY happy and Glad i can now! ^_^ its just that i noticed my right side is takin more air than my left O_O but at least i can breathe through both now!
IF you had radiofrequency why do you think your turbinates were not reduced in size. Is it because you still have congestion? Try a few months of accupuncture, try meditation, and try taking cold showers in the morning. If these things dont relieve your congestion, at least you gave them a try. Try to find an ent doctor who is aware of ens. See dr. houser in clevland.
Iknow that if my turbinates arenot decreasing in size even with radiofrequency it's because enlargementis bony. That is why Iwould consider submucousal resection. I mean I don't feel well at all havingto spend last 6years breathing throughmy mouth and suffering on a day to day basis and thatis why Iwant to dosomethingabout it. I understand the risks of dealing with turbinates but I dont wanna live like this anymorewhat would you recommend Ilikepeaches1 then. Will a sessionof accupuncture cureme?
It actually depends on the doctor and method he or she uses. Surgery may actually cure you from chronic nasal congestion but the cause has to be well established in order to get the right procedure. What if the turbinates are chronically congested especially if the bone has become chronically swollen. The only way to get rid of the congestion is with surgery. Of course cilia and tissue has to be preserved for turbinate's normal function but congestion could not be cured otherwise.
thats what they teach in medical school that "the only way to get rid of the congestion is with surgery" but that statement is inaccurate. Accupuncture, can reduce the swelling, same with meditation. Only in extreme situations should the turbinates be touched. This is not what the ent community is doing. Yes there are methods that are safer, but are still extremely dangerous. Whats worse the risks are minimized to the patients. It can be literally a life of torture.
my noise is blocked and its a swelling in there, ive been to ent & they took a ct scan of my sinuses and saw nothing wrong. I hate that my nose is block because i cant breathe very well. they gave me some flo nase to reduce the swelling but it has been 3 months, an still see no change. i have to go back to the ent because i dont no whats wrong.dey also said it could be due to my nose bein very dry which it is thats why i dont use the nose sprays n e more, and now im jus sufferin wida blockednose
cont'd: thank you for this video. my mom actually went for a deviated septum, and knowing about this just makes me more aware of what type of damage that i did to just a little bit of my body. thank you again
cocaine do anything? well, after cocaine a buse, my nose is of course screwed up. i can breath fine now, but my nose is irritated. i can still breath, but it feels like it's blocked way much more. does alcohol contribute to this too? after wuitting cocaine for the past 4 years, i have become an alcoholic, and there seems to be more mucusand i always have to clear my throat and there feels like there's still more dripping the more i drink..
Because it needed to be removed to help them breath threw there nose and also it serves no purpose and probably doesn't hurt that much considering that it is Hollow..
I wish i could find an ENT in Perth Australia or anywhere in Australia to assess me for Coblation/Radio frequency turbinate reduction. I've been offered the electro cautery but the cold ablation technique seems much better. If i have to i will fly to Singapore to get professional advice on this as it looks like you are at the cutting edge on these newer techniques.
Empty nose syndrome may happen, but it is over-rated. Its more likely to be in an aircrash than to be afflicted with empty nose syndrome from a properly performed operation.
Everything in life has to be done properly, whether its cooking, driving, or surgery. Nose surgery done properly will maximise benefit while reducing risk. The greatest risk of all is to fear taking any risk, and to continue living with the suffering of block nose.
Treating nasal congestion with any one method alone has only 50 to 60% success. But to use an array of different methods, e.g. medications, allergy testing and control, and different types of surgery, more than 95% of nasal congestion can be curable.
I need youe help with this !

cocaine do anything? well, after cocaine a buse, my nose is of course screwed up. i can breath fine now, but my nose is irritated. i can still breath, but it feels like it's blocked way much more. does alcohol contribute to this too? after wuitting cocaine for the past 4 years, i have become an alcoholic, and there seems to be more mucusand i always have to clear my throat and there feels like there's still more dripping the more i drink..

@kevin7484 i noticed that his middle turbinate was totally removed around 3/4's through the video, will that cause Empty Nose Syndrome every time?

Treating nasal congestion with any one method alone has only 50 to 60% success. But to use an array of different methods, e.g. medications, allergy testing and control, and different types of surgery, more than 95% of nasal congestion can be curable.

is nasal congestion always curable?
