  • I seen and meet David & shelly in the early 80s in PA..His brother Lefty has always been one of mt favorites....."You right the former Country music was the real, REAL country Music! George Ferrell

  • Great tune...played this back in '86 as a c+w DJ in Providence RI. Brings back a lot of memories of having fun on the air.

  • @DG19075

    Oh Yeah.......Thanks

    hwaj5300

  • REBA is the reason GOD MADE OKLAHOMA!!!!

  • Another flight through time to a bittersweet era. . . thank you!

  • Great songs should paint pictures in peoples minds. This song is a masterpiece! David Frizzell & Shelly West have wonderful and distinct voices. This music was from the greatest era of country music. Country today is predictable and boring. All the male singers sound the same, their voices are double-tracked to create harmonies. All the songs sound like they're produced by the same people. Where are the great songwriters and producers today? Thanks for posting and painting pictures.

  • @geoffk54

Back when C&W was great .....Amen

    Hwaj5300

  • Well, this confirms it. It is entirely possible to fall in love with someone from only hearing his voice. That thing he does with his voice in the line " ...and a rancher's daughter.." just kills me! I have listened to that at least 1,000 times! Am I nuts???

  • @puppiefaces, you are NOT nuts -- you are sensitive! [A lot of people think they are synonymous.]

  • @puppiefaces I feel the same way about his brother Lefty, sighhhhhhhhhhhh

  • blake griffin's theme

  • Dear Replay Button,

I am very sorry for clikcing you several times and I understand this hurts, but this song is too good to worry about that.

    Sincerely,

    Mouse

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

    Hwaj5300

  • Love the pictures - good job! Very entertaining

  • @yooperlooper

    Thanks yoopertooper I Appreciate that

    Hwaj5300

  • Is there another verse to this song that isn't in this version? I could swear I remember one... she sings that no one there thinks she is special the way he did. Or am I just thinking of a different song?

  • @swansdaughter

Not 100% sure .......But it is how I remember it. Could be a different version on the album (this is from a 45)

    Or you could be mistaken

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @swansdaughter I think that song your thinking of might be "Meet me in Montana" sung by Marie Osmond and Dan Seals

  • @swansdaughter

I believe you're thinking of "meet me in montana" with marie osmond and dan seals.

  • @swansdaughter that is is Marie Osmond and Dan Seals "Meet me in Montana"

  • Great video, memories here on the song,********stars thanks , Art

  • @sinjoart

    Shucks Art

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Now this is REAL COUNTRY MUSIC not like the crap they have today which is really a sickened pop/country hybrid which doesnt work. The old shit was real the new is just a sad pathetic rendition of the old which reflects not the real country lifestyle of old or rather I say the original. Todays musicians just cant do it!

  • @79agp

Come on now ! some of the newer stuff is good also.....Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @79agp

I am not one to taut the artist ......But the song........Listen to " Rascal Flatts....God Bless the broken road....A little newer but still great in my opinion

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • I honestly like Blake Shelton's and Miranda Lambert's cover version better. But that's just my opinion. And I like this one as well :)

  • @roxybabeforever21

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE ? Just kidding!!......But i truly believe you heard blake's Cover first....Let me know

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • @roxybabeforever21 New country sounds much too fake for my liking. It's really just turned into terrible pop music. It makes me sad.

  • @roxybabeforever21 New country sounds much too fake for my liking. It's really just turned into terrible pop music. It makes me sad. That's why I pretty much stick to blue grass when it comes to listening to new music.

  • I get chills when I hear, "I worked ten hours on a John Deere tractor...."

  • @junior2004hasz

That"s OK ....Whatever floats your boat

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • The best country duet ever for me. Does anyone know why they weren't allowed to sing it at the "Greatest Country Duets" concert?? They were right there in the audience, it showed them a few times. Is it a health issue or were they just snubbed for Shelton and Lambert?

  • @DOWNINGDJD

Don't know but they should have been

    Hwaj5300

  • NOT AS WELL KNOW AS MANY DUETS BUT STILL ONE GREAT SOUND AND CAN BE ONE OF THE BEST FROM A DUET, THW TWO WERE MATCHED SO PERFECTLY IN THIS SONG

  • @gunner16ga

    OK here

    Thanks..Hwaj5300

  • ONE TRUE GREAT DUET OF ALL TIME COUNTRY AND I KNOW ILL GET COMMENTS ABOUT GEO & TAMMY AND OTHERS BUT STILL THINK ITS ONE OF THE BEST

  • @gunner16ga

Not as famous as some Alas

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • The reason God nade Brenda Rasnake and the little VA town we grew up in.

I still miss the summer of 1981, our junior year in high school. I really thought it would never end. I want to do it all again. My eyes has never looked at anything that is as beautiful as you were then. I'm sorry I messed it up. 30 years later I still miss you.

  • @TheJer1963

Maybe Brenda will read this...Good luck

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 I hope so. Thank you. I meant to say Made to. Messed it up alittle

  • L.A. native and back in L.A. But this song makes me ACHE for South Carolina where I spent my early 20's with the old-timers and learned real livin'. Might move back to the country after all...GREAT SONG...

  • @Electrarex Grew up in the upstatse region around Greenville Taylors Greer area.Sure do miss it. Been here in Kansas for 33 yrs.Ireally miss home.Dont think it will be much longer before i go home to live out the rest of my life.

  • @agtrucker

Beautiful country....But I only assume you will miss the Heartland too

    Enjoy

    Hwaj5300

  • I stand corrected. The movie was "Any which way You Can"

  • Great video! I always thought it interesting that such a beautiful song came from a rather mediocre movie . I believe it was "Every which way but Loose", something like that. I'd rather watch this video. Thank you for posting it.

  • Great job on the video !!

  • @Mr450bench

    Wow Thank you.... Appreciate it

    Hwaj5300

  • hahah i hate conuntry music, but i worked in a country western restraunt and these classic songs grew on me, im far removed from those days but still listn 2 them jus 2 remeber the good times, thx.

  • cool vid

  • @MissiJohnson1

    Thanks Miss Johnson

    Hwaj5300

  • So said a billion other simple minds. The gays won that war. Accept it.

  • whats up with the broke back mountain at 2:07? i don't hate gays but come on don't ruin a good song.

  • @walksnomore What's up with questioning it? It just shows the world changing, it's not like Oklahoma is an exception to the gay rule.

  • @Rastis35 whats up is its sick and thats not what good old country music is about.

  • what a great song. Thanks for sharing.

  • This song was written by a fellow Tulsan, Larry Collins, who also won Songwriter of the year for this song. Since the songwriter & Singers were all from Oklahoma, one would think this would have been picked for Oklahoma's official song!!!!

  • @makapple1

YEAH !!!... What do they know

    Hwaj5300

  • @makapple1 and dump Rogers and Hammerstein?

  • Wow!...that sure brought back some memories thankyou

  • @bosun1724

    Your welcome for sure

    Hwaj5300

  • thanks momma and daddy for leaving me with this to remember the good times growing up i love you both!!!!

  • When country was country! Great!

  • @norbie6

    Amen and Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • A great song & two powerful singers to do it..

  • one of my all time favorites,,,,,,,, what astory the song tells,,,, i am a hopeless romantic, so this is dreamy to me hahah,,,,,,,,

  • I know I wonder what happened to both of them. Off spring of famous singers. I loved this song. I often thought it could of been expanded to be a movie.

  • @Bpnk5

Countrymusicken said it was from a movie " Any which way you can"

    Thanks .....Good Stuff

    Hwaj5300

  • was riding around carmel,ca with clint and some guys and he was playing the sound track to latest monkey movie and this song blew me away. Big C told us afterwards that he found this song after the movie was made and he had to find a place for it as it was so special. He does LOVE country.

  • This may just be the best song ever written! And what ever happened with David Frizzel? Long time since he's cut a record? Thanks for posting this marvelous song that makes a movie in my head every time.

  • @Sveedipuss

Agreed and your welcome ......I know your movie is better than mine.

    Hwaj5300

  • this song was in a clint eastwood movie (anywich way but loose or any which way you can, not sure which one)

great song they dont play it enough on the radio.

  • One FIRST CLASS LADY and she can sing also. I had her on my aircraft going to nashville once....she is the one as they say "a keeper," just a great person. Would love to see her doing some new music!!

  • @onelowflyer

You sound like a "Highflyer" to me

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • Did the Playboy Playmate Candy Loving's return to Oklahoma have anything to do with the inspiration for this song?

  • nice~~I like the paintings~~thanks for sharing~~~

  • @RubyLovesTomDonnelly

    Your welcome

    Hwaj5300

  • This song almost did not get sung. No record company would do it. And Clint Eastwood heard it and included it in a movie he did. on the sound track.

The rest was history. Good song

  • @tyusga

I was in the wholesale record business so I don't know if the movie made the song or the song made the movie......But as buyer at the time I bought a good deal of this gem.

    Hwaj5300

  • @tyusga I didn't know that about this song, but as I asked otherwise in my comments, did the Playboy Playmate Candy Loving's return to Oklahoma have anything to do with the inspiration for this song?

  • @mikeance

Hey Mike Great question that I have absolutely no knowledge of .......but stop back again I am sure someone will answer that question.

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Ohh yeah, now we have Wikipedia. Clint put it in the movie "Any which way we can" in the early 80's and it went on to hit the top.

One of my all time favorites. Wow, this youtube music is great. I just now got hooked up.

  • I have this album but haven't been able to play it for years. It has always been a favorite. When I drank a lot I'd go to sleep listening to it. I quit drinking years ago but now I can listen to it sober. If I remember right this song made it big after Clint Eastwood featured it in a movie. The one with the orangutang. What was the name of that orange monkey? The reason the voices are so haunting and unique may be because Shelly was not then an acomplished singer. I don't think David was either.

  • @countrymusicken I looked it up. The movie was "Any which way you can"

  • @countrymusicken

Good stuff to know........ But i believe I loved this before the movie came out

    Thanks for the comment

    Hwaj5300

  • I remember this song from when I was a kid.....AWESOME

  • This one is for you, Jim--this is our song--from way, way back. Thanks for posting--brings back wonderful memories and you chose great pics

  • one of the top 5 songs of all time. thanks for posting

  • Sandy Pinkard wrote this song ! He is a homeboy from Gueydan, Louisiana ! We are proud of you Sandy !

  • yep

  • @stonberd Sandy Pinkard did not write this song.......No, Larry Collins wrote this and also received Song Writer of the year for the song in the early 1980's. He is an Oklahoma boy made good, along with numerous other famous songs. Delta Dawn is also another one of his songs. He also co-wrote the sound tract & several other songs on the movie with Clint Eastwood.

  • I love this song, thanks for posting!! Bless you.

  • @TheLDLady

    Thank you & Your welcome

    Not necessarily in that odder

    Hwaj5300

  • Thank you for trying to give me a seizure, there.

I love this song, by the way! And these two are the only ones who should be allowed to sing it.

  • I love this song.

  • One of my favorites. Makes me wanna look up any old girl friend.

  • @wssweeps

Now now now!!!!!!! Hope were not married.....Good Luck

    Hwaj5300

  • eagledust1 I LOVE THIS SONG AND THE MUSIC

  • It took me a couple of years to make the connection to Frizzell names. David sang beautifully, and Lefty's voice was so unique, well as good as it gets.

This duet is one of the very best

  • @superstarsky9

Hope you were able to connect the "West " name to Dotty.

    Shelly is her daughter.

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • Tremendous country song, one of the best duets for one song that I can recall. Simply beautiful.

  • @garydday2008

    Thanks agreed

    Hwaj5300

  • Yeah--I looked up Lefty Frizzell--I may have seen him if he was ever at the Ryman & the Grand Old Opry there--I went to Vandy in the 70's and my folks were always coming to see me and going there--saw people like Marty Robbins, Minnie Pearl, so on--was bored college kid--didn't appreciate the wonderful live country music in Nashville!

  • Lefty was a pretty big name in country music at one time for sure ........Most likely pre dates you.

    Thanks for the comment.

    Hwaj5300

  • My husband and I got married in 1981--we heard this on our first date and it has always been "Our Song"--I never understood why they never became famous--so so beautiful voices--for me hauntingly so.

  • In their own right the parents of these two were a little more famous "Lefty Frizzell and Dottie West".

On this song it's the words and premise of the song that make this one so great.

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 Actually, David is Lefty's baby brother, not his son.

  • Hard to listen to this song and not know what being country means!

  • Impossible

  • Enjoyed this song live by the duo in small club in Southern Calif in 1984. What a treat, just before Xmas.

  • Memories

    That's what it's all about

  • My beautiful wife of 31 years is from Enid. I can't hear this song and not think about her and our life together. And a tear rolls down my cheek every time. Every goddamn time.

  • @vinkleman

I am truly sorry I brought tears to your eyes by resurrecting this tune. But the memories that bring tears to your eyes are the best when you think about it

    God bless you

    Hwaj5300

  • please don't feel bad, they're tears of joy for having such a good woman. Sometimes ya need a tear or two to help ya feel alive.

  • Ahh Memories

    Hwaj5300

  • I grew up in Adair County, OK (I've seen that moon, felt that wind and missed that girl) and this song always makes me smile and breaks my heart (at the same time) everytime I have had the pleasure of hearing it. Truly wonderful and timeless country music. Thank you for the post.

  • I've listened to this replayed on thousands of dollars worth of sound system and still it never sounded better than coming out of the single speaker of my old yellow GMC pickup. (yep, steal dash and wood grain decal on the side.) Something about this song just matched that old truck.

  • I love this song and you did a job nice with this

  • Nice, real nice. Brings back all kinds of memories...

    Thanks for the post...

  • Your welcome

  • 30 years later and still the classic

  • In my heart it always will be

    Thanks

  • Your so welcome, every night i play it to unwind from work..

  • @chofgod

It being 30 years old makes it a classic. It wasn't a classic when it came out. Not taking into account it being good or bad coming into affect for making a song a classic ofc.

  • Country at it's best. Agreed? Thanks for posting!

  • I agree for sure

    Hwaj5300

  • One of the best duets EVER! what great memories

  • @tuneaddicted

Grad to add to them Thanks

  • Beautiful stuff thanks for posting.........Yeah buddy!

  • @marydwyer14119

    Your welcome

  • Gorgeous song. David's voice, where he sings about the green-eyed rancher's daughter, and his voice lilts...MELTS my bones!!

  • My Mother born in OK Commanche County=awesome song

  • I agree Great song! This is when the good county musicians exit! I will even venture to say Don Williams, Charlie Rich, Crystal Gayle, Tammy Wyanett, Pasty Cline, Conway Twitty, and Ray Price (For the Good Tmes!)

  • GREAT song! Oklahoma is a great state as well.

  • This song makes me want to be from Oklahoma. =)

  • My mom was actually born in OK. City,OK. and she died in CA. so this song represents the start and finish of her life.

  • This should be our Oklahoma State Song!

  • @makapple1 I have always wondered why the state legislature never enacted on that when they got their own state rock song. Should be the official country song of the state of Oklahoma. The song "Oklahoma" is well known in the Broadway show "Oklahoma!" I know it more than my own state, Texas' song. BTW, I am a native Oklahoman.

  • One of my all-time favorite songs!

  • I want my dad back! He died! I will always remeber you with this song! Love you dad Butch!

  • Another great song from 1981 !!!!!!

I love the part about working 10 hours on a John Deere tractor,it reminds me of doing just that,on one of my John Deeres !!!!!!!!!

  • Love this - watch your video over and over and over - Thanks!!!

  • NO thank you

    Harry

  • great song

  • Great old classic, thank you for the post,Floyd

  • OKLAHOMA RULES!!!!!!!!!

  • You did a great job on this video and I love the song.5***** and thank you for sharing.

  • What a gem! Love this song Harry. Nice job with the video, and thanks for posting it. ***** Keep em coming, Reggie

  • At 1:36,this is not a picture of LA County or the Sunset Strip, where the "city lights outshine the moon."It is a photo of the Las Vegas Strip, some 300 miles the the nothheast.

  • Good song and well composed video with graphics that enhance the experience of the song, thx for uploading.

  • Lots of country duets over the years but this is by far the BEST EVER! I really love Shelly & David's voices & it makes me want to visit Oklahoma!

  • That is not a picture of Cherokee county court house!!!!!

I grew up in Cherokee county!!!!!

  • You're right. The one in the picture is in Columbus, Kansas. They should have used the court house in Tahlequah!

  • u r so right! im from ks. but tahlequah as pretty as sallisaw!

  • Why the hell are there two queers holding hands in the pictures? To make it worse they're dressed like cowboys now they make us look gay

  • Well, the picture comes up at the line "all the cowboys on the sunset strip", so perhaps the two are actors filming Brokeback Mountain Part II

  • standard stereotype for "all the cowboys on the Sunset Strip" in Hollywood or at the Cowboy {club[s]}.

Notice that the two Hollywood cowboys are both dressed incredibly alike? Standard gay stereotype: remember the Village People? --cop, cowboy, navy gob, army, marine ... ?

They probably all "wish that they could be like you," a real cowboy!! :~) No offense meant, I'm sure.
