  • Hi there wonderfull video goes through several functionality of the video.

a small query, the las part of the video when you are extending the holes in the next part into the assembly what command or option are you using?

plus am using catia version 6 so its a bit tricky to follow.

    cheers

p.s the link for the vidoe is no longer there :(

  • @FJEBPRABA

it's called Assembly features. Found on a toolbar carrying the same name. Megavideo was taken down by the government and that's where I uploaded the good copy. if you email me off list (private message) I can send you a link to the download.

  • i really like da video...helped me understand how to proceed..i actually know solidworks at a pretty good level...but as said above wat u wer doing was hard to look out for...i had to rewind but it was good neverthless..thanks!!

  • Thank bro! m1turbo

  • Thanks m1turbo !

  • Hey I'm taking catia class this spring 2012 and I have a question what type of laptop would u suggested on getting ? Thanks!

  • @InsanityKa0tik

1st I would get the fastest processor money can buy. don't worry about quad core or 8 cores. then make sure that your video card is a certified CAD card. stay away from gaming cards (geforce and radeon) look for Quadro or ATI GL. lots of RAM is good too. go for brand names like Dell precision or HP Elitebook or Lenovo W520

  • @InsanityKa0tik

I'm using Lenovo Thinkpad T520. It has nVidia NVS 4200M. It's a really powerful card for designing softwares.

  • Excellent video thanks. One question, how do you setup the sketch so when you at the part is plat to screen? not like perspective view... thanks

  • @357tacoma

click the Normal view icon. it looks like a blue page and a black arrow pointing up.

  • I deed that but my sketch view still showing not plat to screen, I wish I can email you the photos so you can see it.

  • Also when I used pan to move the parts its going on circle not side to side... maybe there is a setting for this. I can see you sample video. My Catia V5 R19 is different, the problem is the sketch is not plat to screen. Do you have email? If you dont mind I will email you the photos. Thanks

  • I did that normal view arrow still not parallel to screen on my sketch. Is there any setup to make my sketch parallel to screen? Thanks

  • CATIA V5 Start to Finish Part 1 of 2, I noticed on your video that your sketch is really PARALLEL TO SCREEN. Nice video very clear...

  • You need to tell us what you're doing rather than clicking all over the place and having us have to rewind the video to even see what it is you just did. Some of us aren't CAD gurus.

  • @MrSzeth

goto the blog and download the HD version. you'll be able to follow it easier. the timing is a little off on youtube. I do comment on every move or command.

  • the procedures in v6 are the same?

  • @Samin1423

pretty much. V6 just has a nicer interface. it's not replacing V5, not for a very long time. there is no real substantial difference in between v5 and v6

  • @m1turbo thank you

  • can someone tell me if catia v5 works for intel i3 processor windows 7 proffesional....

    thanks in advace...

  • @prabh2009

I haven't tested it with the core i3. but it should work fine as V5 runs on a dual core without problems. I did test it with Windows 7 and it works. make sure that you use Pro or Ultimate as Dassault does not support the Home flavors of Windows.

  • @prabh2009 ....it depends how much ram u have in ur computer....to run catia v5 u need to have 2gb ram or over!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone have the help file? or the user companion file.?

  • @treealpine

it pretty hard to come by as it is fairly big (around 1.5gb) . it usually ships with V5 and is done in a web format.

  • how do i don't have those names Xy plane ..Etc.. How can i settle it ?

  • @H2H3F

Settle it? what do you mean? you mean rename them maybe?

  • Okey dokey!

  • THANKSSS

  • can some1 tell me if catia works for windows 7?

  • @Cr0wner

yes, I am running it on Win 7 Ultimate at home without any major problems. make sure you're running Professional or Ultimate as the home versions are typically not supported by Dassault Systems

  • @Cr0wner yes

  • @Cr0wner yes it works on Windows 7 pretty well im also using it ..:)

  • man this is easy, all 3d softwares are merely the same just the panels changes a little here and there but basically all have the same tools is like having a hammer, nails, pliers, etc on your workshop, the carpenter is made by his creativity not by tools but obviously better the tools easiest to do something.

  • @erikimba

Well said. But I would like to add that better tools saves time.

  • @Paskatomten no doubt. agree

  • catia it is not for begginners, solid it is

  • this vs soldiworks

  • Thank for the demo, but your so fast,

Can you tell me if Catia is similar for some point at Solidwork?

  • @nicoars82

CATIA is similar to SolidWorks in concept. The both have sketch mode, part, assembly and drafting (2D). SWX is easier to use and is much cheaper to buy. CATIA on the other hand is made for big companies (Automotive, Aerospace, etc...) It's way more complex and has more powerful features and specific tools for certain industries.

  • Not bad tutorial, but its hard to follow you if you just point and click, we dont know what you are doing, we cant watch your hands... and its too fast !

  • @fobicodam

if you look in the description, I have a link to download a High quality version which is easier to follow.

  • hi great tutorial alothough the final step where we are projecting the 3d elements it doesn't seem to do anything :( Please help thanks anthony

  • where can u buy this program in uk?

  • @chiefpatryk12

    google this company: intrinsys

  • @m1turbo thanks

  • we appreciate very much your effort mate, but the resolution SUCKS .....

  • that's why if you look in the description I have a link to a high quality video (HD) on my blog. Check it out.

  • what version of vista do you use i got a x86 ver and catia v5 doesnt start

  • @ovojan are you having issues with installation or post intallation running?

  • the OPTION Design Table doesn't work on my Catia on exporting points to Excel...Does anyone know how it works?

  • make sure Excel is installed properly. Also, I seen cases where CATIA has problems with 64bit machines. Is that what you have?

  • 32bit Windows Vista is what I have,And Catia V5...It doesn't work though...And this is vital for my work...

  • This tutorial might be good, but image quality, sound and especially the 'racing through' make it quite hard to "use" it. I know Catia and it is still hard to follow.

  • that's why I have the HQ version on my blog fro download. I did this a while back when there was no support for HD.

  • I really need help on CATIA very very urgently. All parts that I place in an assembly have the little red "coordinate axis" symbol on them in the tree and I can not place any constraints on them! can someone PLEEEEEASE tell me how to get rid of the little red "coordinate axis" mark on all my parts.

  • Having the red Coordinate axis on you parts in the tree is NOT a bad thing.

1- did you check that you are in Assembly Design and not the Product Structure workbench?

2- Are you in Design Mode? you can Right click on the top of the assembly tree and goto Representation>Design Mode.

You don't want to be in Visualization mode if you want to constrain parts. Hope this helps. email me off list if you need more help. email me off list if you need more help.

  • i am afraid that sound and video have some delay

  • are you referring to the youtube version?

there's a higher quality one under more info on the right. there's a download link off my blog.

  • on both

  • This tutorial is very bad. The guy talks so fast and clicks around so fast i cant see a thing. If u wish to teach others, then slow down.

  • see notes for a download link to a high quality verion

  • Good tutorial. The biggest problem with this is the relatively poor screen resolution, making it difficult to read the toolbars and commands.

  • hello jim

u can try watching it in HQ.

    that might help u.

  • nice video man!it is little bit fast for beginers but you know your job!tommorow i need to create some parts for grade.wish me luck..i would like to have someone like you in front of myself when i am going to do that :)))))

  • Bit like Alibre - trying the free version - I was bending metal parts, unbending, drilling, adding flanges, rounding corners, etc. in minutes

Compiled stl2pov to get the resulting Mesh in to Povray

  • might be a stupid question but lets say someone who has a degree or whatever saying that they know how to use catia v5 what kind of job can you get? like what would the title be?

  • well, CATIA is used in many disciplines. So, People that usually use the software are: Mechanical engineers, industrial designers, CAD operators, even Architects. Really, you can use CATIA to design anything, but the main focus of it is Aerospace and Automotive.

  • this doesnt help me..u r too fast and the screen is to small..i got coursework to hand in

  • Thats catia like kids do.

Try "generative shape design", design the part with surfaces, close the surfaces and then you have a real part.

  • "Like kids do"?? The intension was to create a Basic tutorial of V5. An overview for new comers to the software. Also, by saying use 'surfaces then close them', aren't you going back to solids again? why not start with solids? I do have other advanced tutorials if you're interested. but this one is for the beginner.

  • I work with AM2 and HD2 licenses.

    Do you have tutorials?

  • m1turbo

    What is AM2 and HD2 ??

  • for which one of them do you like tutorials? Besides, a license is a vague way of looking for specific functionality, as certain commands are available in both.

  • how did U get catia ?

  • It belongs to the company I work for. I'm a CATIA instructor.

  • ok thanks. I'm a student, I use catia at school and I'd like to know if I could have it at home to train myself.

  • Yes you can the student edition is at sell on the Dassault System web site for around 100$.

  • can u kindly tell me the web site

also pls tell me what can we perform on this version

  • Very fast video. I have taken some ideas from you. I have started to work on this program and this program became a hobby. You very good teacher, you show the basic commands.

  • CATIA has been incredibly intimidating for me, and several other of my classmates; especially since I do it on Solaris in school and some menus are slightly different from those on Windows. Thank you so much. You are saving hundereds of people from frustration.

  • Hi! Ur tut is good, but im not so experienced with and the symbols r too small in the vid! Hard to follow and it took me a while just for the 1st half part.......

  • I have the full version in hi quality if you want it. I can email it to you. just provide me with your email.

  • can u email for me?

  • i would very much like to have the full res! you can email it to me as well?

  • THX so much :) you helped me! :) cheers from Europa! :)

  • hudos to you dude, great tutorial, it's helped a lot

  • ok cool thnx

  • Do u have any ideas for a F1 car because i need a good fast design im doing Catia in skool and we go to melbourne to compete..

  • F1 design is a huge undertaking my friend. what i tried to show is how to create a simple part in V5. What you're looking for is possible but will require a lot of time, effort and experience in the field. basically you need a basic layout drawing and from there you start developing your wireframe and surfaces. type this in Google: TOYOTA MOTORSPORT catia v5

  • you mean you want a CATIA V5 NC demo?

I'm always open to suggestions. If any one wants a specific topic illustrated.

  • thank you very much, do you can to send us another demo for CAM.

    tnx again.
