it's called Assembly features. Found on a toolbar carrying the same name. Megavideo was taken down by the government and that's where I uploaded the good copy. if you email me off list (private message) I can send you a link to the download.
i really like da video...helped me understand how to proceed..i actually know solidworks at a pretty good level...but as said above wat u wer doing was hard to look out for...i had to rewind but it was good neverthless..thanks!!
1st I would get the fastest processor money can buy. don't worry about quad core or 8 cores. then make sure that your video card is a certified CAD card. stay away from gaming cards (geforce and radeon) look for Quadro or ATI GL. lots of RAM is good too. go for brand names like Dell precision or HP Elitebook or Lenovo W520
Also when I used pan to move the parts its going on circle not side to side... maybe there is a setting for this. I can see you sample video. My Catia V5 R19 is different, the problem is the sketch is not plat to screen. Do you have email? If you dont mind I will email you the photos. Thanks
You need to tell us what you're doing rather than clicking all over the place and having us have to rewind the video to even see what it is you just did. Some of us aren't CAD gurus.
goto the blog and download the HD version. you'll be able to follow it easier. the timing is a little off on youtube. I do comment on every move or command.
pretty much. V6 just has a nicer interface. it's not replacing V5, not for a very long time. there is no real substantial difference in between v5 and v6
I haven't tested it with the core i3. but it should work fine as V5 runs on a dual core without problems. I did test it with Windows 7 and it works. make sure that you use Pro or Ultimate as Dassault does not support the Home flavors of Windows.
yes, I am running it on Win 7 Ultimate at home without any major problems. make sure you're running Professional or Ultimate as the home versions are typically not supported by Dassault Systems
man this is easy, all 3d softwares are merely the same just the panels changes a little here and there but basically all have the same tools is like having a hammer, nails, pliers, etc on your workshop, the carpenter is made by his creativity not by tools but obviously better the tools easiest to do something.
CATIA is similar to SolidWorks in concept. The both have sketch mode, part, assembly and drafting (2D). SWX is easier to use and is much cheaper to buy. CATIA on the other hand is made for big companies (Automotive, Aerospace, etc...) It's way more complex and has more powerful features and specific tools for certain industries.
Not bad tutorial, but its hard to follow you if you just point and click, we dont know what you are doing, we cant watch your hands... and its too fast !
This tutorial might be good, but image quality, sound and especially the 'racing through' make it quite hard to "use" it. I know Catia and it is still hard to follow.
I really need help on CATIA very very urgently. All parts that I place in an assembly have the little red "coordinate axis" symbol on them in the tree and I can not place any constraints on them! can someone PLEEEEEASE tell me how to get rid of the little red "coordinate axis" mark on all my parts.
Having the red Coordinate axis on you parts in the tree is NOT a bad thing.
1- did you check that you are in Assembly Design and not the Product Structure workbench?
2- Are you in Design Mode? you can Right click on the top of the assembly tree and goto Representation>Design Mode.
You don't want to be in Visualization mode if you want to constrain parts. Hope this helps. email me off list if you need more help. email me off list if you need more help.
nice video man!it is little bit fast for beginers but you know your job!tommorow i need to create some parts for grade.wish me luck..i would like to have someone like you in front of myself when i am going to do that :)))))
might be a stupid question but lets say someone who has a degree or whatever saying that they know how to use catia v5 what kind of job can you get? like what would the title be?
well, CATIA is used in many disciplines. So, People that usually use the software are: Mechanical engineers, industrial designers, CAD operators, even Architects. Really, you can use CATIA to design anything, but the main focus of it is Aerospace and Automotive.
"Like kids do"?? The intension was to create a Basic tutorial of V5. An overview for new comers to the software. Also, by saying use 'surfaces then close them', aren't you going back to solids again? why not start with solids? I do have other advanced tutorials if you're interested. but this one is for the beginner.
for which one of them do you like tutorials? Besides, a license is a vague way of looking for specific functionality, as certain commands are available in both.
Very fast video. I have taken some ideas from you. I have started to work on this program and this program became a hobby. You very good teacher, you show the basic commands.
CATIA has been incredibly intimidating for me, and several other of my classmates; especially since I do it on Solaris in school and some menus are slightly different from those on Windows. Thank you so much. You are saving hundereds of people from frustration.
Hi! Ur tut is good, but im not so experienced with and the symbols r too small in the vid! Hard to follow and it took me a while just for the 1st half part.......
F1 design is a huge undertaking my friend. what i tried to show is how to create a simple part in V5. What you're looking for is possible but will require a lot of time, effort and experience in the field. basically you need a basic layout drawing and from there you start developing your wireframe and surfaces. type this in Google: TOYOTA MOTORSPORT catia v5
Hi there wonderfull video goes through several functionality of the video.
a small query, the las part of the video when you are extending the holes in the next part into the assembly what command or option are you using?
plus am using catia version 6 so its a bit tricky to follow.
cheers
p.s the link for the vidoe is no longer there :(

I'm using Lenovo Thinkpad T520. It has nVidia NVS 4200M. It's a really powerful card for designing softwares.

it pretty hard to come by as it is fairly big (around 1.5gb) . it usually ships with V5 and is done in a web format.
