  • That aside, I'm glad to read Floppy Ear has healed and is matriarch of a clan. Long may she reign!

  • How come nobody hates on lions for eating their prey alive? True, they don't do it as a rule, but they do it all the same. There's a Nat'l Geo video on here showing a pride eating a buffalo alive. The explanation? This pride had no competing lions or hyenas in their range. They could take their time.

As to hyenas eating their prey alive, it's a question of eating the kill as fast as possible—before lions take it away from them. And lions steal from hyenas a lot. So who's cruel?

  • poor hyena

  • Good idea, watching an animal suffer for 8 minutes.

  • For those that seem not to believe that she is still alive and well, her name is Floppy Ear and she is now the matriarch of a hyena clan in the next reserve along from where this video was taken, we see her a lot on Wildearth.tv where they do safari drives online every day. She has just had another set of cubs/pups.

  • easy lunch for any lion that sees it.

  • That hyena is definently looking miserable

  • aww poor hyena!!!!

i love hyenas!! my favorite animal

    i LOVE their laugh

  • great video !

  • hes so cute hope hes/she still alive

  • come on already wheres the gator that comes up and rips it to shreds!

  • its looking so humble... but hyenas do eat their prey alive lol

  • She's an amazingly tough girl...just saw her today and she looks great :)

  • asshole! and you eat hamburguers! dont be hipocrit!

  • Poor hunny!

  • ..i wonder if there is a plant or root or something they know about that they can use for pain?

  • well that video was a snore and a half

  • i agree Grim

  • richardbarratt, dont be foolish, hyena's just have a bad rap. Every animal kills with the tools that it has available. The tools of a hyena are in most peoples eyes just not as slick compared to that of big cats. That does not make them evil.

I admire the hyena because of its toughness, for me it is an animal that shows great character and combines that with a sense of humor. I love their laugh.

  • someone should save her..

  • Poor girl :(

  • Poor little girl! I know her story, she survived!

  • how did it get its injuries?

  • More than likely from lions but also could have been a dispute with other hyenas.

  • Thats what I thought,if it was a lion attack the hyenas lucky to be alive especially with those wounds.

    thanks

  • @muttluver it could have been any number of things. Where shes at there are hundreds of ways to die.

  • aww poor girl :(

  • is sad i dnt think she ll survive long is like shes already dieing with hunger

  • poor hyenna :(

  • poor girl :(

  • It's tail just hangs there...

    D:<

  • No, the hyena survived her injuries.

  • :"D

  • what happened to the hyena its DEAD nature took its course

  • That is an example that will inspire me for the rest of my life.

  • She did survive according to the lodge staff. :)

"Hyaena's Fate: We are happy to report that the hyaena that was filmed in October appears to have made a full recovery. She was attacked by lions last year, and suffered a fairly severe injury. Hyaenas are often difficult to identify, but the rangers are fairly certain they have seen her several times lately, and she seems to be back to full strength."

  • sure... hahah hope you dont believe that

  • Have no reason not to believe them. They have always been honest when asked about other animals' deaths so why should this one be any different?

  • this was a very stressful time watching this hyena. I always wondered and still wonder what happened to her, I do not feel she survived, im a avid watcher at this water hole, and I myself never seen her return. This compared to the baby wildebeest that survived 3 weeks with a broken legs.

  • thank you - is incredible how we personalise this hyena. I am very happy about this fact - it shows that we all care about her and her injuries! It is a proof that we are real civilise humans!

    God bless you all!

    Best wishes

    Dani

  • Ya Rahman(Most Mercyful).

But we believe in God's mercy (Al Rahman) There is no pain which we can not bear.!!. when the pain increases, we will faint If the pain reduces, we get consciousness. if the wound is big (by a sword or big bite...) we will not feel pain, nerves are shocked. All living thing will try its best to escape from danger, at the time, our sense of pain will not work, but spontaneous attempts to escape will work.

  • Yeah I saw this same Hyena in December 2006.

    The wound is very ugly.

Any news of this Hyena ?

  • yes, the poor hyena recovered!

  • as an avid watcher of the water hole, I never seen her return. I was very stressed over watching her prior to the day she disappeared.

For months, and until now. I still wonder if she survived, but I never seen her back again.

Thanks aquil for this shot, I lost all my pics of her.

  • Wild Dogs usually eat their prey alive too. It's not too bad considering there are people out there who beat then skin animals alive, and beat them for fun, just to lower the price of more expensive, painless ways to put them down.

  • Poor Hyena... it looks in extremly bad condition, can barely walk! :(

  • degkwild100s - by the way male lions I hate a lot!

I never saw a hyena killing onother hyena - or hyena babys!!!!

How about the poor lions babys hurt by a male lion - he enjoyed not to kill them - just let them there deadly hurt with broken bones!

  • I wish I could help injured animals like this one when I see one, it's sad when they can't get no help, they are just suffering all alone!!

  • ls1phsyco - I agree with you. I can not see anyone suffering. I hate the way hyena hunt - but they must survive - and I feel pain in my heart when I see her suffering. But she is well now!

  • what do you mean "the way hyena hunt"?

  • sequio - they hunt like wild dogs, like jackal - this animals are not able to kill before eat!

Suma sumarum - they must eat the prey alive - this is cruel and no one deserve such an horrifying death.

That is why I said - I love all animals I love hyenas, but I hate the way they kill.

  • Hyenas much like Wolves hunt in packs because they do not process the means to deliver a killer blow like say a tiger or a lion. So the way they kill is a particularly gruesome one. Some members of the can distract the prey or overpower it while the rest basically try rip the preys belly open. The victim dies from massive trauma and blood loss.

  • Instead of killing the prey then eating it like a large feline they basically start eating the prey alive until it eventually dies in the process. Its not a pretty sight :(

  • I hope with all my heart what you say is true. All these videos cause me great distress. I wonder why God would create a world with such pain.

  • If we believe in god and his mercy, it is true. in our life also if there are some danger.. and we escape from it, we will tell what happened? i cant believe woh it is terrific i cant think... etc, but did you feel anything at the time it occures, if we would had died in such an accident ? how shall we tell those words ... that is why i tell that god is merciful (god himself pleased to call him as most merciful because he is)God greated life in perfect way, can you think any alternative... No.

  • Right, why would he? what is the reason?

  • Received info from the lodge at the Reserve:

"Hyaena's Fate: We are happy to report that the hyaena that was filmed in October appears to have made a full recovery. She was attacked by lions last year, and suffered a fairly severe injury. • muttluver - thank you so much for your answer!

    God bless you!

  • it's the way of the world yall. It's nature at it's best. You can't go out there and heal all the wounded, that's why so many of yall be getting killed out there. Y dont u say poor zebra or gazelle when their getting eaten alive by these hyenas.

  • degkwild100s - you are an ignorat! come and see my videos - an then put such a stupid critic in public!

  • poor animal! no one should let animals suffering alone and in this way! they should help!

  • What did that to it precisly? How did it gain something like that to it's ass?

  • astonishing its alive, really.

and its clan mates are missing.

he must have been pushed out of the clan.

    and

    its a watering hole.

not a river or lake, big enough to sustain a crocodile.

  • why didn't the crocs get it?? and why is it all alone

  • whoever shot this video, should have done the decent thing and dispatched the suffering animal out of it's obvious misery, instead of recording it for what purpose?

  • This was recorder off a live stream cam set up at a water hole in Africa that is manned remotely. Sorry to say most of the wildlife reserves have a policy of not intervening with nature unless injury was caused by man.

  • ginski908 - you are so right! I share the same feelings as you!!!!!

  • gunna get infected in that water, if not a parasite. poor thing

  • Aw, the poor thing! :(

  • Aww I feel so bad for it it looks like he's gonna cry!

  • Poor thing.

Btw: Is that a video from the Nkorho Live Stream Cam? How did save it from the live cam?

  • I use ScreenVirtuoso Pro. :)

  • Thanks, for the tip, since i am a total newb to the africam site ;)
