My wife got to know the band very well in the mid 70s and I saw them many times around southern Ontario when we were dating.Ron (Garfield) always made sure my wife never had to pay cover at their gigs. They left for the States and that was the beginning of the end for them. They were a small fish in a big pond, whereas if they would have stayed in Canada I believe they would have become a big fish in a small pond. They were all such talented musicians it's a shame they just faded away.
JOE ANTHONY WILL FOREVER BE THE BEST DJ THAT WILL EVER BE AND IF YOU DONT THINK SO THEN YOU NEVER LIVED IN SAN ANTONIO KMAC/KISS "SPREAD THE WORD" I WENT TO HIS FUNERAL ALMOST GOT FIRED FOR GOING IMAGINE THIS I MET THE MAN ONCE IN MY LIFE BUT HE WILL FOREVER BE IN MY HEART AND IN MY SOUL FOR BEING THE ONLY PERSON TO PLAY WHAT NO OTHER WILL PLAY TO STAND UP AND SAY LISTEN TO THIS............JOSEPH ANTHONY YANUZZI RIP....
Classic Joe Anthony Tune. I think the reason 99.5 is not as good as in years past has more to do with the new Rock Music. Kiss always played all the New Music and it was great to hear it but it seems to me Rock is dying out. That suck to say but Hip Hop and Pop are much more popular. Hopefully that will change.
I went to a S.A. flea market and asked a CD seller if he ever heard of this song and "Battles" by Axe. He immediately got a CD titled "San Antonio Rocks!" Bought it for $20. I opened it on the way home only to find it was a burned CD. At least I got some good songs out of it!
I fn love this song... Joe brought so much to the musical scene here in south Texas.... He was an original ... nothin quite like lightin up and listenin to his show.... oh well the songs ... the groups... they all take us back I guess...
this song always reminds me of my girlfriend back in the day.Lost touch with her, sure wish i could hear from her again.Anybody know or knew Hortencia Flores from San Antone.
@jimdebrod I lived in San Antoion for 24 years and I had a girl named Jenny. She was one of a kind and GREAT at Love making. Met her at S.A. college and till this day still miss her!
This was available on CD. I have it. It came on a double album with both Out There Tonight and Strange Streets. Found mine on Ebay a few years ago. Good luck digging through the Garfield the cat crap.
Anyone have this for sale? CD/ MP3? my vynal is long destroyed thought this may be lost for goos ty youtube and the person who posted this. I have to get this back ib my collection..
@dwest99 Keep checking eBay. Thats where I found mine.. I was also told for a VERY SHORT TIME, it was released on CD, I have YET to ever see a copy so I dont know if that was real or not.
@slider28 took me all night digging through stuff but I found an old burn copy from the napster days! not the greatest quality but Untill i can buy this on CD or get it on iTunes this will have to do.
@dwest 99 @slider28 Strange Streets and Out There Tonight are out on a CD with both albums on it. It's released on Footprint Records. I bought my copy in Sweden about a year ago. Such great music!
@dwest99 I used to work at a place called CD Trader around Perrin Beitel and Wurzback Parkway. They had a lot of the old Joe Anthony stuff, but the prices were a bit on the absurd side. But it's worth checking out.
I always wanted to hear latter-day Savatage cover this song.

@dwest99 I have the vinyl. I ripped it to mp3 and no longer need it. I planned to rip all the tracks then eventually came to the conclusion I only wanted this song. It was so hard to find I kept it for the last 10 years.
99.5 KISS FM...that's where I heard this first. Joe Anthony owned a Pizza Parlor on the west side back in the day. KISS played Navasota, Shawn Phillips, Micheal Murphy and Andy Pratt. RIP Joe...
@slider28 Thanks for putting this up. Takes me back to my youth hanging out with my family on Summer Nights when JA was around. Man he rocked the station. Wish we had music like this now. Keep up the good work..
Great that this band has fans in Texas... they also have a fair following in their hometown of Toronto ... so I'm gonna add to the sprinkling of Canadian comments here. This epic song can still be heard on David Marsden's (ex of CFNY in their heyday of the mid 70s- early 80s) radio show on 94.9 The Rock out of Oshawa Ontario on Sat and Sun evenings. Also online of course.
I haven't heard this song in thirty years! I won this album at a county fair in the late 70's, in Cleveland, Ohio. I was just a small boy with a meager record collection and a realistic turntable and receiver! I thought I was hot shit! And I played this record till I wore it out! I never thought I would hear it again. This album is very hard to get in the northern part of the country ! Thanks slider28!!!!
I love this song, yes very late 70's vibe San Antonio...99.5. I have a recorded cassette tape with a brief moment on the Joe Anthony (circa '91) show where you here me asking him to play this song. It took me decades to track down that cassette tape so I could here the lyrics. Yes I found a mp3 version that resides on my ipod. This song is one of those that can stick in your head forever
Joe Anthony used to play this almost every night on the Joe anthony show, 99.5 Kiss.... I just thought of this song because I ran accross FIST - FLEET STREET - another Joe Show song.... LONG LIVEJOE ANTHONY RIP... I remember .... every night someone would call in and say.. PLAY GARFIELDT (spanish accent) and he would play it.... man those were the days.
Well, it took a while but I finally located this song! Thank you for posting. And how interesting that folks here are saying that no one outside of San Antonio, TX knows about it because I'm from S.A.! I've been back and forth across the country, up in Canada, over to Europe and now live in NYC and I have never come across anyone who knows this song!
@powerpooch2000 I think The point is it is mainly San Antonioians talking about it. That and the destruction of our best rock station 99.5 kiss. kiss, and lyle and hann sold out to the money. 99.5 only plays now if i can't get a good station
@powerpooch2000 Kind of surprising, isn't it? I grew up in a town near S.A. Fell in love with this song in my high school years although I was an 80's teen. A buddy of mine had the song on tape - he was one of the very few who knew this song. Still one of my favorites! I guess we can see it now as one of those things for only those around San Antonio, Texas - Kind of sad though!!!
San Antonio, is one of those cities in American who loves their rock and sometimes you can still hear this album being played in its entirety. Love my hometomwn.
San Anto loves thier rock and are faithfull fans to the end. these songs will be passed to our children to appreciate. there was no internet back then but concerts and damn if there were concerts! it affected us to the core and we get goosebumps recalling memories when we hear these songs. long live Joe Anthony! cheers
I jam with a member from this band. An amazing human being and musician. Not making a penny of this but would be tickled to know that folks are talking about his work all these years later.

Unless there is some way of time travel that I have not figured out yet, no, I cant see him on stage. I was not born yet when Garfield was together and performing.
thanks for the post.i'm 62 and saw them them in boston in 70 something when they opened for the good rats.stole the show.ask your dad if he remenbers that nite.out there tonight is my favorite album ever.i bought 5 copies but lost them all in the last 40 years.sure would like to find another copy.
I love to see some of Garfield's music showing up on UTube!
I'm an old fan from the 70's. Probably saw these guys 150 times...we were actually friends. We spent many a night just sitting around talking. He was really serioous about his career. I actually remember when Garfield (Ron) couldn't play the piano. I remember him buying that old upright white piano and then eventually moving on to his baby grand. What an amazing talent. We lost touch when they moved to the States. Should have been huge
My cousin's wife was allowed to play his musical favorites at his funeral this was one of them, a true true classic, brings me chills just listening to it. Took me forever to find it. Thanks slider28!! ROCK ON!!!
wow.... classic memories while jamming to this song while on roaders on the back roads between TR & Karnes City... south of San Antonio. Nothing but great times !!
@lycanspirit1 I remember when they got bought out and went to a half-million watt transmitter - I thought "great, lots of people will hear the awesome music they play." How naive I was. Of course, they changed their playlist the very next day and you never heard stuff like this again.
@lycanspirit1 its not the station that sucks its that crap they play now a days these so called musicians we got now don't no shit about playing good music 99.5 should just play these kinds of songs and leave the rest of the bullshit out
Sa baby !!! i remember sleeping on the floor by my bed in the corner jamming to this late at night when i was suppose to be sleeping dont remember what station kzep 99.5 or 96 ???
saw this band at ryerson theater in Toronto. Won tickets from chum fm...my first concert at 17 back in late 70's and I was mesmerized from beginning to end. I still have this album but have not listened to it in a long time. The French brothers garfield and dennis rock....cover tune is also great....great experimental band
As many have already mentioned, I too grew up listening to Joe Anthony spin this and many other classics at 99.5 Kiss, and the elusive KESI 106.7 where Joe helped break QueensRyche's EP (brought to you by WaterBed Designs...) I also remember him spinning Tangerine Dreams long B4 I ever heard them on the Risky Business soundtrack. Really Good stuff. There is also a Joe Anthony tribute page on MySpace that just kicks F'ing ass! If you love SA old school metal, check it out!
Is this like a San Antonio thing? because no one seems to have much of an attachment to this song as San Antonians are. I miss those days when music wasn't so generic. I swear you travel anywhere in America and every radio station plays the same music.
It's funny that u mention that because me and my dad found a CD that said San Antonio Rock mix and it had this song on it. Can't find it anywhere else and surprisingly found it on limewire. Pretty cool song. Basically the only Rock stations I grew up listening to were KZEP and KISS. I'm only 21 so I haven't been around long enough to really hear other rock stations other than the new 97.7. Why is this song only in San Antonio?
@powerpooch2000 yeah pretty much, garfield played alot here in the late 70s and early 80s thanx to the late joe anthony. funny how hardly anyone outside remembers this song.
i remember kexl but that was the 70s wasnt it hey if youre old enough remember on tv, In Concert they had some songs that were pretty much old school rock black sabbath led zep alice cooper etc.
I remember KXZL. It was the rock station that ran along side KISS back in the days of when there was a "KISS WORLD" event in San Antonio. I can remember wearing my black and yellow KXZL shirt at "KISS WORLD" HAHAHAHA
I have the original Garfield Album, I saw them in concert at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio, they opened up for REO Speedwagon, Judas Priest was second on the bill
KZEP was nice when it first started out. the music was good, but I had to stop listening, same songs over and over, Try and get them to play this song or many others
Flip Side, Record Connection , and the old Apple Records, would always have this album priced at $50.00 or more. Also, be advised that you can get Garfields first two albums on one CD now, it was put out by a company called footprint back in 2007. So if you want the classic with the classic sound get the album, or for a more cleaned up sound the CD.
Actually This Classic was a hit long before KZEP became KZEP.
As far as availablility I've been collecting vinyl for many years and I've picked up many copies of "out there tonight" for my collection for as low as .50 cents in a flea market bin to 30 bucks at the austin record convention. I picked up a copy in Holland for 15 american dollars still sealed in an awesome vinyl shop. theyre out there - even tonight !
i personally don't remember a KEXL in San Antonio. I remember KXZL being pronounced that way though. But that could just be memory failing me. I remember a channel a bit higher up on the dial like around 106 FM or so. They were around for a short stint playing a bunch of rock classics. Think Joe Anthony jumped on board with them during that stint. Dont remember their call letters...
This album is only priced this high here in San Antonio, the rest of the country offers it for reasonable money. Check eBay there is one with a BIN of $7.99 right now, as well as one with a BIN of $35.00; which by the way is listed by a long time San Antonio Record Store Owner/Seller Les Harris.
Folks dont get to worked up by the prices of San Antonio Record Dealers. Out there tonight is so high priced here because of KZEP, the album became a mega PRICED seller here after they (KZEP) did the whole album on the Classic Disc At Midnight show. Ive got a copy of that show on disc around here somewhere; Ive also got the Original Album from Capricorn Records.
Dude you Rock! You know how hard it is to find this classic? Last time I saw the album it was $450.00 at Flip Side off S.W. Military Dr. That was about 2 years ago.
thanks for sharing. i grew up listening to 99.5 kiss in SA, they would play this at least weekly (94-97?). ive only heard this song in my head since then.
I also lived in SA and learned about all of these groups and about the KMAK/KISS & Joe Anthony from the older dudes in my neighborhood. When I met my dad & uncles for the 1st time they were surprised I knew about that, my dad used to work concert security (when he wasn't throwin' time in tdcj) in those days and got to see a bunch of these groups
@keuper1 Speaking of which, where the hell does he find these samples?!?! this is about as obscure as it gets...I dunno how Kno comes across this stuff. He must be a serious crate digger.
downloaded this song from limewire searched everywhere and the flea market is the only place to buy it the eisenhauer flea market i was a teenager hearing this song with a cold lite quart mmm those were the days
My wife got to know the band very well in the mid 70s and I saw them many times around southern Ontario when we were dating.Ron (Garfield) always made sure my wife never had to pay cover at their gigs. I have Joe Anthony recorded on cassette one of the last night 99.5 changed their music ('89 or '90):
"Here it is; possibly the last time you'll hear it here on 99.5 Kiss." Song always put a lump in my throat. Anyone here the lyrics.

Unless there is some way of time travel that I have not figured out yet, no, I cant see him on stage. I was not born yet when Garfield was together and performing.

Before the internet came along people in San Antonio would pay up to 50$ for this album a true San Antonio classic.. brings back a lot of memories.

lycanspirit1 1 year ago 16
@lycanspirit1 I remember when they got bought out and went to a half-million watt transmitter - I thought "great, lots of people will hear the awesome music they play." How naive I was. Of course, they changed their playlist the very next day and you never heard stuff like this again.
7uh 10 months ago
@lycanspirit1 its not the station that sucks its that crap they play now a days these so called musicians we got now don't no shit about playing good music 99.5 should just play these kinds of songs and leave the rest of the bullshit out

saw this band at ryerson theater in Toronto. Won tickets from chum fm...my first concert at 17 back in late 70's and I was mesmerized from beginning to end. I still have this album but have not listened to it in a long time. The French brothers garfield and dennis rock....cover tune is also great....great experimental band

Thank god for YouTube, I searched for this song for years!
powerpooch2000 1 year ago
As many have already mentioned, I too grew up listening to Joe Anthony spin this and many other classics at 99.5 Kiss, and the elusive KESI 106.7 where Joe helped break QueensRyche's EP (brought to you by WaterBed Designs...) I also remember him spinning Tangerine Dreams long B4 I ever heard them on the Risky Business soundtrack. Really Good stuff. There is also a Joe Anthony tribute page on MySpace that just kicks F'ing ass! If you love SA old school metal, check it out!
CrawfishBoil 1 year ago
Is this like a San Antonio thing? because no one seems to have much of an attachment to this song as San Antonians are. I miss those days when music wasn't so generic. I swear you travel anywhere in America and every radio station plays the same music.
powerpooch2000 1 year ago
It's funny that u mention that because me and my dad found a CD that said San Antonio Rock mix and it had this song on it. Can't find it anywhere else and surprisingly found it on limewire. Pretty cool song. Basically the only Rock stations I grew up listening to were KZEP and KISS. I'm only 21 so I haven't been around long enough to really hear other rock stations other than the new 97.7. Why is this song only in San Antonio?
Segovia06 1 year ago
@powerpooch2000 yeah pretty much, garfield played alot here in the late 70s and early 80s thanx to the late joe anthony. funny how hardly anyone outside remembers this song.
mystrol3 5 months ago
i remember kexl but that was the 70s wasnt it hey if youre old enough remember on tv, In Concert they had some songs that were pretty much old school rock black sabbath led zep alice cooper etc.

I remember KXZL. It was the rock station that ran along side KISS back in the days of when there was a "KISS WORLD" event in San Antonio. I can remember wearing my black and yellow KXZL shirt at "KISS WORLD" HAHAHAHA

I remember when it used to be KMAC and KISS. We all had their stickers plastered on our windows of our cars.

I have the original Garfield Album, I saw them in concert at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio, they opened up for REO Speedwagon, Judas Priest was second on the bill
spartacus5518 1 year ago
It's hard to believe people considered REO and JP on the same bill, I mean JP is way heavier and darker than the REO stuff.

KZEP picked up their copy from a 99.5 kiss auction when they changed format the first time .

So if you want the classic with the classic sound get the album, or for a more cleaned up sound the CD.
amasssith1969 2 years ago
Actually This Classic was a hit long before KZEP became KZEP.
As far as availablility I've been collecting vinyl for many years and I've picked up many copies of "out there tonight" for my collection for as low as .50 cents in a flea market bin to 30 bucks at the austin record convention. I picked up a copy in Holland for 15 american dollars still sealed in an awesome vinyl shop. theyre out there - even tonight !

Didn't KEXL preceed KZEP?
graybeard1952 1 year ago
i think it was KXZL???
Karfaxx 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure KEXL was first then KXZL then KZEP.
graybeard1952 1 year ago
i personally don't remember a KEXL in San Antonio.
Karfaxx 1 year ago
This album is only priced this high here in San Antonio, the rest of the country offers it for reasonable money. Check eBay there is one with a BIN of $7.99 right now, as well as one with a BIN of $35.00; which by the way is listed by a long time San Antonio Record Store Owner/Seller Les Harris.
amasssith1969 2 years ago
Folks dont get to worked up by the prices of San Antonio Record Dealers. Out there tonight is so high priced here because of KZEP, the album became a mega PRICED seller here after they (KZEP) did the whole album on the Classic Disc At Midnight show. Ive got a copy of that show on disc around here somewhere; Ive also got the Original Album from Capricorn Records.
