What a huge saw and a huge cut! I have an MS 660; but the 880 looks twice its size! Thanks for posting this as I'm trying to learn the many sides of logging, arborist work, and the people and tools that make it happen. I, too, was wondering about the apparent lack of PPE -- mostly out of concern for you and your partner. Seems like you're saying you could have done better in that arena -- an answer I respect greatly. Again an amazing video -- many thanks!
tried using my my regular cutting chains, and all of them found a nail which destroyed certain sections of the teeth, thus i was left with only ripping chain which ate through the nails pretty easy. this was after milling the entire top of the tree. my partner still had the chaps on if i remember correctly since he was on the nose end of the mill. overall, not what i wanted, but worked. and yes, i did forget to put chaps on, which i live by.
also, we all had ear plugs in, you just can't see them, and was first time using the bar oustside of a mill. anyways thanks for comments. always looking for improvement.
not at all. exact opposite. It's made to cut wood length ways down the trunk, but it cuts hrough nails pretty good, which is why i had to use it (th tree had nails deep inside it).
Might want to invest in some protective gear. Chaps, safety glasses, ear plugs at the very least. I'd recommend a falling axe to pound your own wedges. Someone's going to get hurt around that massive bar. Take it for what it's worth.....
Nice saw but y r u using riping chain? riping chain is made to go with the grain. Ur going against the grain..... Overall a horible cut. Looks like ur a beginer and if I was u I would start off learning with a smaller saw.
it was a ripping chain...had already made 4 8 foot long cuts in the trunk of the tree, and it had an 8 pin sprocket instead ofthe normal 7. sonot bad at all when you consider that.

@brownpotdton do the ripping chains cut faster than a normal chain?
