I'm a volunteer firefighter at my local station and a guy, and our fire lt. is a woman, and she's a damn good firefighter, and I have respect for anyone male or female that wants to fight fire because it's pathetic to look down on someone because you don't think they can do it..anyone that thinks this way is probably not cut out for the fire service because you have to accept both sexes in this industry and I'll tell you what I will stand by my lt. any day over some chauvinistic jerk-off.

Some of you are ridiculous. My wagon driver is a female and she definitely taught me a lot. I can guarantee she saw more fire than probably 99% of you posting that bs on here. Our engine company alone ran over 5300 calls last year in our city which ran over 170,000 calls last year. So while she is working for one of the busiest fire departments in the country, you are sitting here crying online. I doubt those of you saying that could even hang with the Washington, DC Fire Dept.

Most woman cant move a ladder, so the MEN have to work even harder to "carry" there weight. How FUN it must be to be a woman firefighter since all the guys have to do the "heavy" work. Sorry but your wrong on that one. A good captin or cheif would never put her in a position where she would have to rescue someone she couldn't handle. She would never be on a RIT team or anything like that but she would definatly have a place somewhere. I don't know if your a firefighter or not but if you've ever been at a scene where there are childern involved there it sure is good to have a lady around. They definatly have a place on the department.

I have to second kunzy04 on that one. Theres plenty of jobs on the fire scene that you dont need to be in the structure saving people or downed firefighters. I am a left above the knee amputee firefighter and I drive and run the pumps so that enables someone else to go in the building. I cant go in and save a downed brother...does that make me useless on a fire scene too?
