I have a 55 gallon tank with white sand but thinking about getting black sand and switching. Do you find black sand harder to clean and take care of or is it the same. I heard over time black sand can turn kinda gray or brown is the true? by the way really nice tank, so clean too.
Why would you put cheap looking reef decor in such a nice tank, I would do some dark rocks stacked, with small hintsof red lava rock scattered around. You fish would love it....... btw I love blacklights on Cichlids
new tank syndrome a killer for fish , dilute your tank , and dont add any fish , just yet , and have you put filter start in your tank , when you set it up ,
@realgangster02 i was using a corallife color max bulb with a 420n atcnic bulb. and it was a t5 lighting fixture, the blue light that glows is a r2 moonlight
@mi7robbie are those Demasonis, they are my favorite Malawi cichlid. I had two but lost them to bloat, i couldnt sop them from eating the bottom feeders shrimp pellets, so stick with zucchini for the tropheus species!!!
your water so clean. nice tank im a beginer and have a 30 gallon tank and my water is cloudy and my nitrate is high i've had the tank for about 1.5 weeks.Any tips?
@gdubale Cich;ids are fresh water fish so it would seem werid to have coral decor, however it provided great hiding spots and caves, which cichlids love and it also looked amazing with everything glowing at night. I appreciate your opinion, its just not a setup for everyone. Check out some of my more realistic setups, you might like more
Very nice, I may try something like this soon. I am about to buy/inherit a really nice 115 from a friend and I was debating how to change my setup. I was considering going salt but can't really afford it yet so I may stick with my cichlids and change to black sand. This gives me great ideas. Mind if I asked what you did for the lunar lighting? Is it LED or blacklight or something else?
It is a lunar LED strip light by R2. It it around $50 but works great. It has a simular effect as a blacklight but without that dangerous side effects to your fish. It also makes a big difference if you are trying to breed fish
thanks it was tempoary so i could find the baby fry without risking crackin any glass. And also people can see white or black sand, the rocks will be back no worries

The tank is beautiful, although the coral is so bright it detracts from your awesome fish a little, but great none the less.

@coolbriguy They really need rocks, stacked high marine style. But they've laid out a nice tank, though. And these fish breed like hell lol!

I mean no offence, but, why would someone decorate a cichlid tank with corals??!!??
add some rocks dude... it will look better and moreover it will keep your fishes happy!!
gdubale 2 years ago
If that's what he likes, and wants to do, why are you imposing your views? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

@constellationex - see it was only a suggestion. Dont take it personally.
But if you say so..... i say "OK" , grandpaa!!!
