perhaps you will play for us Brahms paganini variations book 1, Prokofiev Sonata no.2, Ravel le tombeu de couperin, scriabin fantasie in b minor............
I never sit down to watch you play without having time on my hands, because I know I won't be able to walk away. The passion in your performance draws me in. Lola, you are truly one in a million! :) xoxo
wait... wtf.. aaa blast you youtube... u sucked me into another hole.. where am i.. some chick playn bad ass piano... ok.. well .. just got sucked into another clickit hole. this shits awesome tho!!
why is there so much debate about her atttire?? just listen to the music and be taken by the rhapsody. She plays for "STEINWAY". I am pretty sure she has publicty and i am damn sure she knows how to dress. . . These are personal videos of her practicing. DOes she have to be in a ball gown!!?? shit.......
@Genscocougar I think it matters a lot to the classical world and she needs to start presenting herself professionally. She's incredibly talented and beautiful and all that goes with it and I don't want to see her fail. There are many great musicians in this world who will only get to record one album if any.
All her videos are self-produced for youtube except for a couple of TV shows.
@49kasey I don't see anything wrong with her image. She dresses like a stylish young woman and these clothes look great on her physique. What we see here and few other videos are rehearsals, so she is dressed casually, but overall I like a "modern" classical artist. Anyway, I'd much rather focus on her playing, because it is brilliant. What she wears is secondary.
@MegaCrazyDann I'm just saying I'd like to see her get the recognition she deserves. The classical world is... classical. Image is important and the fact remains that other than these self-produced videos, all we have of her are 2 TV shows. She looks fantastic, there are lots of clothes that would show herself off in a more appropriate, elegant and graceful manner. Maybe she's a total non-conformist, I don't know. If so, it's to her own detriment.
@49kasey actually classical celebrities like david garrett get away with dressing like bums on classical concerts....
if ur world class, that matters more.
her talent is definitely above average, but in the classical realm, i don't know if that is enough (you can't just be good... u need to be uniquely good... through interpretation, etc). She is attractive so, I think that makes it enough.
we all know some opera singers rise to fame by looks... she's got the packaged deal :) good luck.
@LORDN Don't you think she's in a class by herself? I've never been a fan of solo piano music but she knocks me out! Her great beauty definitely plays a part in it, but hers is a powerful presentation. I love her Scriabin.
@49kasey actually... listen to some more solo piano.:) u'll like it bc a professional pianist should play NO worse. What makes one stand one over another, is a unique factor that attracts audiences. I think her unique factor is her image. Unfortunately, it mostly appeals to the younger population, not a very big demographic. If she does crossover, she would be more popular like vanessa-mae, etc. Music is talent and business. if i imagine my piano teach playing that, then it ain't no fun. :D
@LORDNARCISSUS Well I think YOU would benefit from listening to some more solo piano my friend. This pianist is up there with the greats. Don't be fooled by her "young" image and relaxed attire. And please don't compare an A level musician to certain lemonade/diet soda level crossover stars. I think it is simply not justified. She is something else. Life long Argerich's fan talking here.
@MegaCrazyDann sir/maaam: I PLAY the piano professionally so yes, I listen to pros a lot.
Just stating the facts... popularity as strictly a classical pianist, only gets you as far as well... a few albums, a few concerts, and thats all. If you go toward more than just your technique, other fans are gained.
So far, I notice technique.. and there are those with better technique. If this debate is bc ur a fan, well I am a fan of kissin, gabriela montero, and a lot of others. End of story.
@49kasey I agree with you. I've heard this piece performed more times than I can count. Both recorded and live. I think she is beyond spectacular as a performer and her looks have nothing to do with it. Her Scriabin is very profound indeed.
I am in love with you. I wish there were words to express how impressed and amazed I am by you're talent and dedication. Thank you and please keep posting more beautiful music.
I have a cd coming out this year, and you make me want to write something new so you can play on my cd. I am the MOST PICKY person when it comes to music, and talent, and you are AMAZING.
That piece is soo fun to play!!! Towards the ending it got a little difficult and that always gave me trouble though. You seem to play it fine however, when you go down the octaves, you can hear a little break in between the transitions. It was better than how I used to play it though, It's just constructive criticism.
I'm just pissed off that I fell off and forgot it dang!
Lady GaGa is a persona - she puts on an act to appease her fans, all glitter and glitz to keep their attention because she couldn't gain it before when she was a more serious musician. I've seen her without the stupid make up and the stupid videos - and she does display talent. But to say she is better than Chopin? Get real. She isn't and never will be, and luckily within 50 years, no one will remember her name, while Chopin and Rachmaninoff and Beethoven will live on forever.
Just to add to the lady gaga thing... This isn't just talent. I'd say it is at least 70% hard work and practice. Lady Gaga is 100% TALENT. So please stop comparing a modern pop artist to classical musician practicing piano.
actually, regarding Gaga.. imho she in fact may be more "talented" than Astanova. I mean, it is impossible to play like that without 10000 practice hours at least. On the other hand, bare "talent" is enough to do what Gaga does. I mean, take any decent looking sociopatic chick from the street with "talent" (ie decent ear) and she will do the Gaga thing after just a few weaks of practice. While you must give up yor life to achieve what Astanova does and if you do, the "talent" becomes irrelevant.
People should remember to sit up straight. "Body" dynamics are not part of a song. Also, vehemently retracting your hands from the keys does not adjust the sound of the piano, no matter how dazzling it may appear. Only thrusting the weight of your back into your shoulder muscles can produce a force strong enough to emphasize the intended volume of the music.
Did I hear that someone compared Lady Gaga to Ms. Astanova??? Are you kidding me? Listen, I like her interpretations on some pieces and on some I don't. But overall Ms. Astanova does have very good technique. She is very clear and clean. I love that about her! To compare a coked out Lady Gaga to Ms.Astanova is insulting at best. Let Lady Gaga do Lady Gaga and keep her in pop tasteless world. PLEASE!
@B9801033 I know. as odd as it sounds, it's very difficult to press the pedal. If you wear heels and drive a car, you know what I mean. I perform barefoot... shhhh.
I need to start learning bc apparently it's possible :)
That's the most beautiful interpretation of this piece i've heard so far, brilliant, sensational and generous at the same time. Wonderful, I cried like a little bitch...
Truely Breath taking brought a tears to my eyes..I'm not quite sure I sophisticated enough to understand Rach, so much passion! it feels like brain sex, you've inspired me to hear more, you're a muse. thank you soOO very much for all your hard work..
wow. i love you lola. i dont guess you could play some josh groban and still loving you by the scorpions could you. it would be awesome. also i wonder if i could ask you for a REAL challenge. why not play a few songs backwards. i KNOW you can do it. your a COMPLETE GENIUS. well anyway, if you could please answer my, well eventually all of your fans requests it would be highly appreciated. if not we love you anyway and well keep on checking for new videos. america loves you. take care & God bless
YOU ARE THE MOST AMAZING PIANO PLAYER IN THE WORLD. YOUR LIKE THE CHARLIE DANIELS OF PIANO. ITS AMAZING HOW YOU CAN EVEN KEEP UP WITH YOURSELF. I WOULD BE WILLING TO BET THAT YOU COULD PLAY JUST ABOUT ANY SONG ONE HANDED AND MAYBEY EVEN PLAY A DIFFERENT SONG WITH THE OTHER HAND AT THE SAME TIME. YOU ARE AWESOME.
your a great pianst, actually beyond great god-like perhaps, but what is really cool is how you are able to remember all of these songs, in the vids that i have seen your not looking at any sheet music. great job!
Lovely...I'd love to hear this with a few pro mics over the strings. And just a little sustain and margin at the end of the clip, but still for camera audio, this is xlnt. Technique is awesome, thank you for Rachmaninov...Scheherezade anytime soon? peace.
@0PrinceMusic .... mmmm... i don't really know how much experience lady gaga has playing piano, but based on what i've heard, he ain't playin this piece anytime soon. This is a monster.
I don't think you understand the magnitude of this piece.
Many pianists have played since young. Writing a ballad at 14 isn't indication of having this degree of compositional mastery. Not at all. Lady Gaga (pfft) may be
a fairly good pianist but this woman is masterful in performance and composition. I seriously doubt Lady Gaga could play Rachmanninof or Liszt difficult pieces much less compose to this degree.
I'm sorry. I thought this was a response to Astanovas composition from Rihanna "Don't stop the music" if you haven't heard the composition then I suggest you look it up and listen. It is hardly recognizable and less of a copy than some of Chopin's composition were copies of Beethovens.
Rachmaninoff? She makes it look easy, but I'll bet the time blood sweat and tears of her childhood were worth the passion she put into her love of music. I love her left hand play. Coming out of her seat at 1:42 was priceless. This Beauty is a "BEAST"!Bravo!

Some times hearing all those notes arent very pleasurable. Some times simple songs sound better.... Im not saying shes not talented because shes got a ton of talent. but Im just saying.
I cannot fathom a single soul making a solid argument against this gifted angel. Why does she jump out of her seat you ask? Cause she has passion beyond your comprehension. She is EXACTLY what I look for in a player. FIRE. Committed passion. Aggression. Music is a captured moment of pure emotion. What is a a pity and a shame, is that VERY few are able to not only capture this emotion, but command it. She is does both, with zealous.
@greyalexander913 You have a very interesting twist. I said she was hot because I was looking for a way to complement her. On her musical skills, maybe she does better on anything but Rachmaninoff.
It's nice, she is talented. Great start in "Presto & Fortissimo", but playing the entire piece in fortissimo is too much show :-) Listen to Benno Moiseiwitch and Jung Lin's clips on you tube to hear extraordinary Rach Moment 4 :-))
again i think her technique is very good. but her interpretation is a bit exagerated . why are you jumping off your seat ? why are you making such faces ? it's really a pity. really. If you would stay calm during the performance i honestly think it would be much more fascinating to watch.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@scotty123123 I am with you, there are a dozen interpretations here that are better - if you really want to hear a classical concert pianist. But she IS hot! can't have everything!
If you were really honest with yourself you'd admit that she does have everything. It is easy to say oh she is hot so she is no good. How very superficial of you. The fact that she doesn't look like a classical pianist has nothing to do with her playing, which is of the highest level. If she were unattractive than you'd praise her musicianship. What a terrible double standard. Same with Anna Netrebko. They keep saying she gets the best roles because she is pretty. How foolish!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's not a very good interpretation for a professional. It would be good for an amateur, but the passage at 1:00 is really sloppy for a russian concert pianist
@scotty123123 You choose a passage that she plays to perfection with no pedal and crispy clean. While other performers press the pedal down on the whole thing. Scotty, if you don't know the subject too well, don't embarrass your self.
I think you mean you don't have the patience. It's really not hard to find a free piano. Get starter lessons online for free. Then study sheet music. Then study some more. Then practice your technique with method books available at the library. Then try to play what you hear on this free you tube video. Then study some more.

Fine pianist. Although the dramatic gestures are clown-like, distracting and draw energy from the focus she might use to better generate expression in the music. I wonder if she's ever performed the Rach 2nd, if she didn't rush her way through it I bet it would be one hell of a performance.
Yes, THAT moment is missing. This follows moment 3 the funeral march, in MM4 I want to hear the ebb and flow of tones and constant building of intensity - Rachmaninoff's ringing bells, the emotions :-)
Listen to Rach playing MM2, Horowitz's MM3, Jung Lin's MM4 and Gilels' MM5 - all on you tube, all incredible :-)
seems to me, she's enjoying the momentary inspiration..can anyone complain about it? after all, it's moment musicaux. but the real people know there is one of the most beautiful moment in this piece among the entire set of op.16. and THAT moment is completely missing here...
Yea you continue to Impress me. I wonder is there a list of top piano players in the world and if so how high do you rank? plus how do they determine it? is there a once a year competition? there should be with every instrument that would be lots of epic fun.
Immense performance of Rachmaninoff's most difficultMusical Moment. She's the female Lugansky - or maybe it's the other way around, Lugansky is the male Astanova?
Its sad to see all the childish uninformed comments here. I for one am a Lugansky follower, I think he is one of the worldest best living pianists BUT I would hate to rate the difference in technical virtuosity between these two on this piece :)
You know what dude,,music is NOT a Competition!! if thats how u feel u dont love music 4 the right reasons<< She plays brilliantly in my opinion,,and music is after all,,just personal preference not fact<< there are many with extreme talent,,not just a couple of best and thats it,,Berman & Lugansky are ur personal favorite doesent mean there better tahn every1 else who plays,,Grow Up Please

Lovely...I'd love to hear this with a few pro mics over the strings. And just a little sustain and margin at the end of the clip, but still for camera audio, this is xlnt. Technique is awesome, thank you for Rachmaninov...Scheherezade anytime soon? peace.

@intervalkid

Bless you Lola. You charm the heavens.

It would be nice to hear an actual performence of Rachmaninoff's moment!
In the meantime, there are extraordinary videos of this piece on YT performed by Jung Lin, Moiseiwitch, Berman, Volodos :))

@scotty123123 I am with you, there are a dozen interpretations here that are better - if you really want to hear a classical concert pianist. But she IS hot! can't have everything!
JDL615 1 year ago
If you were really honest with yourself you'd admit that she does have everything. It is easy to say oh she is hot so she is no good. How very superficial of you. The fact that she doesn't look like a classical pianist has nothing to do with her playing, which is of the highest level. If she were unattractive than you'd praise her musicianship. What a terrible double standard. Same with Anna Netrebko. They keep saying she gets the best roles because she is pretty. How foolish!

It's not a very good interpretation for a professional. It would be good for an amateur, but the passage at 1:00 is really sloppy for a russian concert pianist
scotty123123 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@scotty123123 You choose a passage that she plays to perfection with no pedal and crispy clean. While other performers press the pedal down on the whole thing. Scotty, if you don't know the subject too well, don't embarrass your self.

fuck man i wanna learn piano sooo bad but i dont have the money..

Перед вами рождение нового жанра - порнопианизм!
Этим люди обычно занимаются друг с другом, а не с роялем.
Кстати говоря, это не первый пример такой реакции исполнителя на исполняемое им музыкальное произведение...
