Has there been anymore flooding like this since 2008 when this was filmed? Are there a lot of high ground areas in Waukesha that are kind of fllod proof? I'm considering relocatring to that great town.
@LosAngeleno1959 There are definitely areas that are on higher ground and less flood prone, but even for the lower areas the major flood concerns of a neighborhood can be worked around so long as your basement is constructed well and properly water-proofed. Yeah there still might be leaks. ;) But a little water is a lot better than an all-out flood!
I was there. Probably the same time. I'm from Madison and was visiting my brother who lives in Waukesha. I had to drive halfway up the state to get back home because the interstate was closed the whole way back because of flooding.
I'm glad you showed the bears... which are normally about 5 feet ABOVE the surface of the water !!! been living in Waukesha 10 years now... it hasn't even gotten CLOSE to as high as it was during that flood.
I remember that!! 10 feet above normal water level in most places, and anyone that lived near the river were riding in canoes all over the backyards, it was freaky and funny at the same time...
Yep. The spot where I was filming was closer to the *center* of downtown over by Waukesha Civic Theatre, Waukesha State Bank, etc. just a wee bit downriver of Frame Park.
It was pretty crazy seeing it like that. Usually it's a pretty low, calm river generally but this was just- wow. It rose so high it started taking over nearby parking lots an easy 10' above the highest levels it normally reaches!
They've receded quite a bit throughout the state, though in many areas that doesn't do anything to stop the ongoing damage from standing water, rotting wood, etc. Things are pretty much back to normal here in the ol' 'Sha, though. Thank goodness!
Waukesha Wisconsin has something strange happen every five years. From whiteouts in summer time, to tremors, to floods, or "spontaneous storm down drafts". I learned in elementary school that the fox river has changed courses many times. A flood comes through and it picks another path downhill! Hence the parkway has such a large marsh area surrounding it.
Your history in the 'sha sounds positively idyllic. ;)
My mom used to take us to the springs when we first moved to the area. They were such a novelty to us then. Wonder how they're doing now after all this weather...
I remember the Fox River overflowing around 1959 or 1960. I was five years old & thrilled by it. I feel bad for those who've lost property in my old home town, but glad nobody was hurt.
Back then my mother would take me to the rose garden & goldfish pond in Frame Park, & to the nearby "Hobo Spring," a little limestone well from the resort era, to wade in the icy water. When we were a bit older my brother and I would catch crayfish and snapping turtles under the willows along the river.
I live in waukesha too, great footage! My wife's sister's house was flooded, she lived on the crawfish river in columbus wisconsin. Good thing they finished that Johnny Depp movie up there already or they'd be screwed.
I didn't even think of that movie! Wow yeah- they're lucky they're out of that area now.
For their sake here's hoping they don't have to go back to pick up any extraneous footage in the area- who knows how different it may look now from the footage they've already got. :S
Go Waukesha

Awesome. Some friends and I were there last summer and a bridge going over the river was completely underwater.
We were just a couple blocks from the Waukesha city bus station.

Wow! That's larger than any river here in AZ. Of course, even at it's normal rate it's probably larger than any river in AZ!
Where I live the rainfall avg is between 7-10 inches a year. I can't even imagine standing by that much moving water. Astounding!

Who knows, man.
Whatever the cause, all I know is that my favorite local theatre has damage to its props and reserve set furniture due to basement flooding. :S
