0:45 - "Manuals are fun"...ah, not always pal. Being stuck in grid-lock for over an hour with a manual car and stuffed left knee tells me otherwise. I'd much prefer an auto for 90% of the driving I do...for the other 10%, yeah, I'm sorrowful I don't have a manual anymore
Oh god, all of these people who complain about manuals are so annoying. Boo fucking hoo. Out with the old, in with the new. Most modern supercars today have dual clutch transmissions with no clutch pedal and paddles. Most cars are following suit. Its called moving with the times.

It sucks how exotic car manufacturers (i.e. lamborghini, ferrari, etc.) are ditching the manual in favour of flappy paddles. I am so grateful that at least Porsche has allowed the manuals to live.
Wow honestly who gives a shit? I know how to drive manual AND automatic, yes manual has a way better feel to the car then automatic ever will but honestly its a car, drive it. people who think driving a manual car is "too hard" or "too much work" are a bunch of lazy, incompetent vegetables. Manuals make you FUCKING PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD. They take only a little common sense(a very rare thing nowadays). The only reason that someone shouldn't drive a manual is if you only have 1 arm/leg!
Fact: Drive a manual and you (hah) automatically are more aware of the road.
Fact: I'm driving a 1 ton+ piece of metal around idiots at absurd speeds for such a mass. I want them all to be aware and to use the god damned gas pedal. Stop sleeping at the wheel and we all win!
I have my beginner's and I learned to drive on a 1991 Accord Coupe, with a 5-soeed, and my dad's 1999 4Runner 4x4 5-speed (the last generation of good 4Runners; SUV's today suck). I'm looking to buy a '90-'95 4Runner 22R-E with a stick for when I get my full license. I drove my mother's van the other day (Sienna), no connection to the vehicle. I hate driving autos. In my drivers ed class (30 people), 3 people were learning on a manual including me.
@moeali777 My first car was an auto, and i quickly replaced it with a sportier car with a manual gearbox. it was a lot of fun, and i thought i would never enjoy driving automatics again. I recently replaced it with an automatic vehicle (which i do plan to convert to a manual), and i can't believe i'm saying it, but i enjoy automatics just as much (for daily purposes). in a luxury sedan, there's nothing more enjoyable than sitting there cruising in a relaxed manor.
My parents taught me to drive a manual along the narrow, hilly, and winding roads along which we lived. There, being able to choose your own gear proves itself a definite asset--one which might save your life. Manuals control speed, controlling speed seems to help us avert most collisions.
Additionally, driving the white second-hand Toyota MR2 as I did, rowing your own gears in that car turned every mundane trip to Foodtown into a thrilling experience. HANG UP AND DRIVE! Love, Jeff
@mrfssales Sedentary and lazy? It's because us american dont give a fuck about taming wild horses, and no matter how good a driver is, no one can match up to the auto gearboxes in sports cars these days... like ferrari, what driver do you know of that can shift gears in .003 seconds?
@khyentse8 no ferrari i've ever heard of uses an automatic. they use sequentials. a sequential transmission is fine by me, in fact i'd prefer a sequential over a traditional manual if i'm at the track. i just hate automatics.
@TheApexKid Unfortunately, that is very true, the 458 Italia doesn't come with a 3-pedal 6-speed. What a shame, if you try a gated Ferrari manual, there's nothing like it.
@sbakar So I've heard! Not to mention those gated levers are so beautiful. It would be a privilege to operate a Ferrari manual. That being said, I think having the dual clutch system in the 458 Italia would also be awesome. Fastest shifting and best dual clutch transmission on the market, from what I've read.
@mrfssales i got to drive the auto version of my own car once, it was like someone had taken my car seat, and put it on a fork lift. the ride was crap, and the response felt like the car was missing one spark plug and a brake caliper
@mrfssales i'm american but in this aspect i'm ashamed to be part of a population that is all automatic.. fuck automatic and fuck people who give me shit for living my stick shift car, i will always by a stickshift now and forever
Yes, save the manuals. With everything else in a car computer automated or controlled these days, a manual is one of the last things left in a car that I can totally control what I want it to do.
I love my manual tranny! Nothing like cruising the mountains or traffic left in second cruising along what most people dot get is manual transmission are super fun to drive if your buying a German car it's genuine unless it's stick try getting a auto in Europe rofl! And some people think oh I will have to replace my clutch every say 50k that's far from the truth I have a Vw jetta 5spd it has 100k still the factory clutch don't beat ur car it won't beat on ur wallet simple as that btw one last m
Why the hell would anyone "dislike" this video? 19 dislike? Really? You "dislike" manual transmissions? Why? Because you can't talk on the phone, or text, or read your email, or watch this clip on youtube on your phone while driving a stick? Put the phone down and DRIVE your goddamned car! If you, or your job, or whatever you have going on in your life is so important, then you shouldn't be driving anything, manual or automatic.
PLEASE! i dont know how to drive a aunto gearbox! ive had 3 cars in my short live and both first and second where auto.... one granaded on me, the second just went blank :(
It isn't just that car makers aren't making as many manual gearbox vehicles, but gearboxes in most reasonably priced manual cars really aren't very good. I can live without satnav, hard drives, fancy radios, and supercomputers. Just give me a simple drivers car with decent handling, a good gearbox, and some good old fashion driving fun. Keep the rest.
I just learned to drive a manual 5 spd Subaru legacy and it's a great car. I love it. Just today I had to drive my family's ford ranger, and while it's a good pickup, it just isn't as satisfying because it's an automatic. Even if you don't heel-toe, there's still something wonderful about getting a hill start just right or nailing an upshift. A stick will make you love driving, and if you love it you will work to be good at it. And more good drivers is what we need.
@Obsoliit But now a days the irresponsibility and lazines as well as short attention spans have already been engrained into peoples heads before they hit driving age--- there would be a lot more accidents of idiots drivin stick as well lol. I miss my stick shift. Unfortunately its not offered as an option even if most vehicles anymore.
if automatics were the only option available id go to a garage and get an aftermarket manual installed screw automatics i can understand if u have arthritis in your left knee or u just are freaking lazy and want to text and wreck with a manual u feel like your in control of the car and ive outstopped an ABS equipped honda civic in my delsol that has no abs from downshifting and not locking up the tires plus dead battery no problem push and pop the clutch no jumpers needed here MANUAL FOREVER
@MangoSmoothie16 And I could say it's my opinion that a Civic and faster than a Formula 1 car, it doesn't make that kind of dumbassery sound any better. It's a emerging technology because the ECM has the control for heel toeing at your finger tips which allows you to DRIVE better because you have more direct control of a car with 2 hands on the steering wheel. Yes I drive manuals and I obviously prefer manuals over autos, but why everybody hates on SMGs simply because they are better is stupid.
@frambesbuckeye i agree that they are better technology and faster. I would rather have one if I were going to race. ill admit it because i cant heel toe worth a shit but in a ferrari or sports car to tool around in, I want a stick
@MangoSmoothie16 Once you get used to heel/toeing it becomes natural. Depends on the pedal layout too. That's fine if you want a manual over an SMG. The manual will be slower than the SMG, but that's the driver's choice.
@frambesbuckeye i dont think so, i drove my aunts paddle shift FIT and if the computer thinks if you drop too low or jump too high in the RPM's it will switch back to auto mode wich is realy anoying
@nismohead100 A Honda Fit isn't even a manual gearbox. It's a CVT tranny that's why it sucks balls. Technically it doesn't even need paddle shifters. They just "simulate" gears which is dumb. It's not a true Sequential Manual Gearbox like you get in a Ferrari or BMW.
@jmoyet It's a Sequential MANUAL Gearbox used by F1 drivers, ALMS drivers, FIA GT drivers, and is manufactured by Ferrari and BMW. It's faster than any "manual" gearbox, so cry all you want when my sequential manual is the one kicking your regular manuals ass around a track.
@frambesbuckeye its still an automatic to me, just like theres automatics with manual mode. same shit.
I like the feel the gears connect when I change gears. Not the paddle crap. I feel sad that you do not know the true meaning of a manual gear box.. poor kids..
Ask somebody you know that has a true manual gear box with a clutch. not the flappy paddle automatic crap. And you'll feel how it is to drive with a true manual gearbox.
paddle shift is hated efverywhere, even on top gear. lol
I was caught in a bad spot, and had to buy a car. With not enough time to find the car I had to decide to buy an automatic. I have never forgiven myself for that decision. As i walk up to my car everyday, I lust after its good looks. Heck, I get compliments on it regularly! But when I get in the drivers seat, I lament at the sight of that disappointing gear selector... When will they develop a time machine so I can go back and stop myself from buying that car???
@MangoSmoothie16 How is it gay? It shifts faster and more efficiently than ANY human being EVER possibly could. A Sequential MANUAL Gearbox will always be superior to a regular manual gearbox......hence why they were invented and are currently run on BMWs and Ferraris, used in Formula 1, and American Le Mans Series cars. I'm sick of people hating on technology that is better simply just to hate. It's just like my dumbass elders saying their 77 Ford LTD is safer than a new accord.
When they started putting automatic transmissions, power seats, windows, and door locks and cupholders in sports cars, the battle for fun-to-drive was lost.
Unfortunately, all most people today want to do is put the key in the ignition, start the car, put it in drive and go.
Why? Manuals are an unnecessary headache while driving. And no they are not more fun. Its like typing a paper with a typewriter instead of Microsoft word. Yeah it works, but why go through all the trouble when there is a much more convenient alternative.
this is only true in the USA lots of euro areas have standard as the majority of the cars leaving auto too lux motor cars. and its standard not manual "manual" is a slang. @ Obsoliit not true more standard cars are involved in heavy/deadly accidents then autos are thing of all the vette's and ricers kids have put into walls..
Back in my day we used to float through 8 gears in our 5-and-4's before getting through an intersection pullin' 80,000 pounds. See how old I can sound? Yes, I used to drive 5-and-4. 5-and-4 is two manual transmissions ganged together so you have two sticks coming out of the floor. Floating is shifting w/o the clutch pedal.
truly, so sad every time I went to each dealerships, but I saw bunch crappy auto. XD but rarely I told dealership that you are really FAG auto fan boy.
I used to applaud Porsche for being one of the only supercar makers that stuck to the manual, then they started with all this PDK nonsense in the Boxsters, Caymans, and basic 911s. You still need to know how to drive a manual to really appreciate a GT3RS, GT2, or Carrera GT...the best Porsches.
omg yes, i am literally obsessed with standard trans. i cannot stand automatic, this is the best video ever, like "thevandit" said, a cheap crappy car with a manual trans is better than an expensive car with an automatic!
I like manual transmissions, every now and then though its nice to have a automatic. But manual cars are better, more fun, and it keeps you focused on driving. Automatics allow people to do whatever while driving, unlike a manual you have to use your other hand for.
So im split, manuals are great, autos are great...depends on what you feel like driving this or that day.
manual is fun!!!!!!! there is nothing like manuals for a sport cars, there is no need for all of that complication of that auto , really i dont like auto's
It's a fucking transmission everyone has there own preferance and there is nothing wrong with either of them i just think that it's sad that people are wasting there time to argue over which is better GROW UP PEOPLE
Pretty funny video, but with all honesty, we need to preserve the manual transmission. I am so frustrated how the autotragic transmission allows idiots to be even more idiotic by not driving, just endangering everyone else on the road.

I think its time to dump or leave the DSG and paddles to racing and rally and bring BACK good ol manual transmission!!!
I really dont see a point in those paddle flimsy things..really I can shave half a second on my shift from 3 to 4th gear?

It's because us american dont give a fuck about taming wild horses, and no matter how good a driver is, no one can match up to the auto gearboxes in sports cars these days... like ferrari, what driver do you know of that can shift gears in .003 seconds?
khyentse8 1 year ago
@khyentse8 no ferrari i've ever heard of uses an automatic. they use sequentials. a sequential transmission is fine by me, in fact i'd prefer a sequential over a traditional manual if i'm at the track. i just hate automatics.

@TheApexKid The Ferrari 400i used a GM auto transmission.

@sbakar i stand corrected, but that is one of very, very few. of course all the Ferraris these days have automatic modes though
TheApexKid 1 year ago
@TheApexKid Unfortunately, that is very true, the 458 Italia doesn't come with a 3-pedal 6-speed. What a shame, if you try a gated Ferrari manual, there's nothing like it.
sbakar 1 year ago
@sbakar So I've heard! Not to mention those gated levers are so beautiful. It would be a privilege to operate a Ferrari manual. That being said, I think having the dual clutch system in the 458 Italia would also be awesome. Fastest shifting and best dual clutch transmission on the market, from what I've read.

Yes I drive manuals and I obviously prefer manuals over autos, but why everybody hates on SMGs simply because they are better is stupid.
frambesbuckeye 1 year ago
@frambesbuckeye i agree that they are better technology and faster. I would rather have one if I were going to race. ill admit it because i cant heel toe worth a shit but in a ferrari or sports car to tool around in, I want a stick
MangoSmoothie16 1 year ago
@MangoSmoothie16 Once you get used to heel/toeing it becomes natural. Depends on the pedal layout too. That's fine if you want a manual over an SMG. The manual will be slower than the SMG, but that's the driver's choice.
frambesbuckeye 1 year ago
@frambesbuckeye i dont think so, i drove my aunts paddle shift FIT and if the computer thinks if you drop too low or jump too high in the RPM's it will switch back to auto mode wich is realy anoying
nismohead100 1 year ago
@nismohead100 A Honda Fit isn't even a manual gearbox. It's a CVT tranny that's why it sucks balls. Technically it doesn't even need paddle shifters. They just "simulate" gears which is dumb. It's not a true Sequential Manual Gearbox like you get in a Ferrari or BMW.
frambesbuckeye 1 year ago
@jmoyet It's a Sequential MANUAL Gearbox used by F1 drivers, ALMS drivers, FIA GT drivers, and is manufactured by Ferrari and BMW. It's faster than any "manual" gearbox, so cry all you want when my sequential manual is the one kicking your regular manuals ass around a track.
frambesbuckeye 1 year ago

Flappy paddles, like having your guitar played for you.
aceXP2 1 year ago

I like manual transmissions, every now and then though its nice to have a automatic. But manual cars are better, more fun, and it keeps you focused on driving. Automatics allow people to do whatever while driving, unlike a manual you have to use your other hand for.
