I love this video so much. Its an amazing performance. I admire her skill, her dancing, and her courage to do it! I wonder what all these haters are contributing to the world. (besides their ugly comments.)
Wow! Fantastic! Beautiful stage presence and connection with the audience...they loved it! Great rhythm, dance, and spinning~
I never understood why people take the time to make negative comments on here... why watch the video at all?? I think it shows a lot of negativity and immaturity.
Yup, either Sage or somebody who watches a lot of sage videos. This is probably going to make me pretty unpopular, but am I the only one who thinks that Sage is kinda overrated? I just don't like her dance style, I don't think it's sexy, or anything... for some reason it's always reminded me of a chicken.
No. You're not the only one. I couldn't quite peg anything that completely covered the head bobbing, random standing one leg, or senseless hopping. Do chickens spin in circles a lot too? Chicken is an awesome description. I don't see a whole lot of display of poi control or true skill level either. I think the hype is due to being female entirely. Accidentally looking like this when I spin is a personal fear of mine. Ah well. To each his own. Popularity is overrated as well.
I must agree very unform and a true lacking of control.... it must have taken years of practice to feel achievement at this level. If she'd stop showing off and take some time and learn some technique she might just be worth watching for something more than just sex appeal.
I don't know about technique, you have to remember that this was in 2002, a lot of the technique we consider fairly basic now, didn't even exist back then, just watch the old Circle of Light videos and you'll see what I mean. Sex appeal and showing off is good, as this is meant to be a performance, but I just don't like the way she moves. Her "dance" style and choice of moves just aren't to my tastes, I just don't like them, and I don't like watching her perform. It's just my tastes.
Her newer stuff is pretty much the same as her old. I'm entirely self taught and have never seen anyone spin in person. At less than two years of halfassed practice with her time and resources I expect a whole lot more. This is far more preformer than actual poi spinner imo. It's a form of getting more attention for doing far less because you are holding something on fire and half clothed. This is why women rarely and justly don't get true respect in poi.
If this was a guy at the same skill level most people would say "ok, good start". That's why I don't keep videos up. I know what I'd be judged on would not be my raw skill level. I'm by no means a pro but skill just can't seem to keep up with exposed skin and chicken dancing I guess. I have yet to find a woman spinner I find "inspiring". But props to all my fellow female tech spinners. I'm sure they are out there somewhere. Just can't find them. Sorry for the rant there. XD
pretty good, but a little redundant. Ive seen more creative with the dance moves. Wish the art form would get growing, it's an awsome mode of self expression.
Is that a pentagon cat walk? Americans got the wrong end of the stick and burnt fingertips??? The Wicker Man is an ancient celtic religious custom, maybe the Romans copyied it. Wanna live in the past? or love it and leave it. 2008 is here.
It's like a way of celebrating the Pagan religons. Mostly Earth-pagan religons. Were see men and women and gods and goddesses as equals. And therefore we worship them both.
It's like a Roman Pagan festival. Because in the Roman times they use to put criminals in a big wooden man - and then burn him - as an offering to a certain god. And I forget the gods name. Maybe Saturn. And it happened in the spring. So then the Wiccans take that festival and put it into new modern things. That's what I heard about it though.
it does look like sage grim5... my friend told me she went to Oregon Country Fair, and Burning Man also last year (2005) and it looks like sages style so....

Hahaha, very true. Glad to hear I'm not alone in an ocean of "Sage is so beautiful and inspiring when she spins" types.

Yep, but, I'm not very good at explaining - so that is the best I could do in a 500 character box.

That's a good explanation for 500 characters or less!

Very, very slick poi work. Poi is cool as it is, let alone when they're ignited in the dark and have a spinning fireball look to them.
