  • I want a hat like they got.

  • Notice the great Jack Greene(Statue Of A Fool), on drums.

  • WOW, SUPER MUSICIANS, BETTER THAN 60% OF WHAT WE HAVE TODAY

  • are those hats prerequisite?

  • acid country...motorhead on steel guitar!!

  • Who're the goobers who disliked? Jealous wannabe pickers?

  • @SteelguitarLane ,,,,,My thoughts exactly.

  • OMG AMAZING WE SAW YOU ON YOUR TOUR BUS(:

  • @Playroute66....This is that wonderful place in between the world of Hank Williams and the world of Glen Miller that is categorized as Western Swing! Yes...you're right, it is swing...and yes it is good ol' American "country" too. And all of it, no matter what label you put on it...is essentially a form of jump blues with a different flavor of spice on it, when played at this tempo. Slow it way down and you make a waltz or a Texas two-step out of it too. It's all good!

  • Really - why is everyone saying this is country? cause of the hats?? people - this is SWING JAZZ!!!

  • Ok...well...the Texas Troubadours or the Buckaroos or the Texas Playboys or the Cherokee Cowboys or the Strangers or the Jones Boys or so many of the late greats...ah hell they are all frickin' amazing!!! This piece rocks!!! Classic country all the way. They don't make 'em like this any more.

  • I didn't know Ernest Tubb had a fine jazz band behind him.

  • Awesome Guitar player.

  • Don't see nearly enough green cowboy hats these days.

  • WOW!!! GREAT!

  • AWESOME!!

  • Rest in Peace Mr. Charleton

  • Rest In Peace, Buddy Charleton.

  • Bloody marvelous. Thank you for taking the time to upload this and give us all the opportunity to see this great duo. I'd never heard of them until now, but certainly will be tracking their catalogue to see what's out there to buy............Thanks, so much, again.

  • Gostei demais... Obrigado...

  • Ah, Leon!

  • Does anybody have guitar tabs for this?!?

  • Can't tell you home many times I've burned one down to this video.

  • i want a hat like that for xmas

  • These guys rock.

    Incredible.

  • Love that twang...these guys ROCKED!

  • Very nice!

  • From the head, it looks like Leon is playing an Epiphone instead of a Gibson.

  • @whitt702 He is! Epiphone was one of the top brands then.

  • @whitt702 1964-1969 Epiphone Sheraton. the video is grainy hard to tell but that is my guess.

  • I'll tell you what - that guy DESERVES his name on his guitar. If I played like that, I would put my name in big letters on my guitar, the back of my jacket, my belt, my underwear - you name it.

  • now this is music!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Yea!

  • voom! nice!

  • Listen all you guitar pickers, there was never a tighter sound band that this group. There were lots of good bands back then but on a fast song package, none were as good as these Texas Troubadors, w/ Buddy and Leon.....They just were so tight, they did not miss a beat and no mistakes.....Bill

  • you got that right, those pansie asses in Nashville can't hang with these boys, well maybe with exception of Brent Mason, Tommy White and a few unamed others

  • Thats some major hot pickin.

  • Leon is from Dallas and the best guitarist

  • There may have been a better band than The Troubadours, but I don't know who it would be ?

  • ...The Strangers,The Brazos Valley Boys,The Pridesmen,the Buckaroos?????I don't think so..!

  • all great bands ! I thought of Wils and The Playboys too. These Troubadour's are tough to beat !

  • The only band I've heard that comes close is Jimmie River and the Cherokees. "Brisbane Bop" is an amazing recording if you can track it down.

  • Yep...Jimmie and Vance were great...I just don't think there is any video of these cats unless there is footage of Vance with Billy Jack Wills ...?..

  • Leon, you blue eyed angel. Aside from your good looks, you play red hot guitar. My brilliant husband loves you. When Bob Moore says Leon Rhodes is a fabulous guitarist, you'd better stand up to the plate. There ain't no doubt, you did just that in this video.

Great music. Forever! God bless you, friend.

  • Wonderful! Nice to be able to see LR & BC in action. Thanks for posting.

  • This could easily replace all those crappie country songs that you hear on the radio today.

  • I know, if anyone was going through the dial and this popped up I think a lot of people would stop and listen. And it would be a wide spectrum of people.

  • Who wouldn´t agree!? Anders R in Stockholm.

  • how come this isn't on radio anymore? this is great

  • Chops-a-plenty man!!!! I love it!

  • nice hats

  • I want the tab for this song

  • NICE!!

  • Where's Buddy Charlton?

  • Clever play on words...probably referring to the late Red Rhodes, steel guitar player/music store owner in Hollywood...and Bud Jackson (he of "Sho-Bud" Guitars).... ********************************************** BTW...Red Rhodes told me something long ago... re: The Kim Sisters act...They were an all- female band from Korea that appeared on the "Ed Sullivan" Show 22 times. His remark was, that "Aja Kim's steel guitar was out of tune". Male chauvinist? You decide...
  • How about Leon "Rhodes" and "Bud"dy Charlton. I think that would take care of the song title.

  • Thanks for filling in the gaps of my knowledge.

  • @RonaldVaughan No, Leon Rhodes and the now late "Bud"dy Charleton.

  • and Jack Greene on drums.

  • That's what i call monster players!

    Very good!

  • Im going to hear Leon in about 15 minutes

  • Does Leon still play the Opry? Haven't seen him for some time on TV but there are the radio shows on WSM, right?

    Mosrite60

  • Opry management in their infinite wisdom let Leon go a few years ago...In my humble opinion that was a bad mistake same as Billy Linneman not being on bass there after all those years.

Definitely a lot to learn from pickers like Leon !

    Wt

  • Leon only plays with specific artits on the Opry. He was replaced several years ago.

  • I recall times when Leon, Jimmy and Spider played threesome Teles on the opry. Man what a sound and great players

  • Yea, I agree. Leon and Spider usually played hollow body boxes but on occasion played Teles or Strats. All three guys are great players. I expressed my displeasure when the Opry Mgmt. let Leon go. He's the best swing player they had on staff.

  • SOME WICKED PICK'N!!!

  • original gangsters LOL

  • nice hats! lol great players as well!

  • Leon Rhodes-Guitar Buddy CHARLton-Steel Guitar , listen to "Honey Fingers" (done around the same time, you'll hear Ernest announce both names in full.

  • ahhhhhh leon

  • at 1:17 where leon zaps that low e string and lets it ring is so cool. his solos sound like they're from outer space...

buddy has the coolest rhythm in his solos and attacks the strings like a rock star... killer!

  • Leon Rhodes is the cat's meow.

  • thanks for posting this.....

  • That is Buddy Charlton on Steel, this video was from about 1964, Jr. Brown would have been about 11.

  • The Texas Troubadours were one of the all-time great country bands. They played tastefully behind ET's singing, but when they cut loose, hold on to your hats, people!

Speaking of hats, they also had impeccable taste in Western head gear.

  • I am a fan of this comment

  • Hope this isn't posted twice, but I think I can settle the issue. Leon Rhodes name is on the guitar, and I recognize that steel as one that Buddy Played from other Emmons pics. Also at the end of the song, Tubb, says that it's Rhodes, Bud's boogie. It has to be Buddy on steel. Marc Trainor.

  • Are you sure it isn't Junior Brown? I saw him with a hat that looked just like the one Buddy Charleton's wearing.

  • Well, I'm not too sure of anything these days, but I still think it's Buddy, but I saw Junior Brown at a concert one time, and he was terriffic. Just kind of a side thing here. Junior is a very interesting, amazing musician. Marc.

  • @marctrainor Well, now that I think of it, I may be wrong???!!!! When Ernest said that Leon and Buddy wrote it, he sure could have meant Buddy Charlton. Man, I'm not sure which Buddy that is on steel now. Marc Trainor.

  • handsome outfits!!

  • Is that Buddy Emmons on steel or Buddy Charlton?????????????????? I wanna know?

  • Buddy Charleton... he followed Emmons in the Troubadours steel chair

  • Wow, he's pretty impressive. Marc Trainor.

  • Actually, that's Leon Rhodes playing steel guitar - Buddy Charlton is playing plectrum guitar.

  • Buddy Charlton

  • @marctrainor Buddy Charleton...classic!

  • Wow, nice!!

  • Jack Greene on the drums. Might have been the "Country Bumpkin" himself on rhythm. He was with them along about that time.

  • No, it's Buddy Charleton- listen to ET.

  • That's Emmons, not Charleton.

  • Wrong, that's Buddy Charlton.

  • Wow.

  • This stuff rules!!Somebody needs to put out a dvd,but until then we have YouTube!

  • Hey, don't y'all hear Ernest Tubb saying, "Leon and Buddy wrote that"

He's referring to Leon Rhodes who is playing (the heck out of the) guitar and Buddy Emmons on Steel. Country music legends. Both Leon and Buddy are still alive and well. Leon is, for sure, still playing the heck out of the guitar with The Whites on the Grand Ol' Opry on a regular basis.

God love that blue eyed baby.

    What a great guy.

  • Great to see bud charlton in this video,Thanks.

  • Thanks to you jhlville,I've sent this to a mate in UK & its getting sent to other guitar players over here in the UK;---That ET is good to his band,is nice to see too!--well done; PS is there any clips of Buddy Emmons with ET?

  • Great players, Great playing..and uhh..Big hats !

  • Leon seems to have a delay on... anyboday know what kind?

  • redneck power!

  • Very smooth !

  • Ain't this wonderful picking by two real superstars of both the guitar and pedal steel guitar....These guys are superb artists......We need more of these type pickers in today's country music scene....Right?

  • You don't need bebop and West Coast hipsters when you have real men playing real men's music!

  • This guy is the YNGWIE of that day....Holy crap!!

  • Leon Rhodes and Buddy Charleton... what a couple of MONSTERS. Thanks so much for these clips!!!

  • ernest tubb was one cool guy, back in those days, to see his musicians cut loose like this.

  • This is an excellent clip and great rendition of this song. Thanks for posting. Viewers may also be interested in John England and the Western Swingers' version of "Rhodes Bud Boogie" which is on their CD, "Thanks a Lot"

  • Thanks for posting this. I wish I had seen it when I was trying to learn this tune!

  • I never realized Leon had such a jazzy sound to his playing. Like a cross between jazz and swing guitar style.

  • This set of Texas Troubadours was the very BEST!!! Note Jack Greene on the drums. You don't hear bands like this anymore.
