*lol* I'm from Germany and when I was in Sydney for a 5 month long internship, I had to cross there every day. My first thought also was like "this is crazy", but it's actually really cool that you can cross diagonally.
WTF HAHA!! it's like for a min, entire roads are occupied by peds. !! I live in north america and travelled many countries and never seen quite like this
Standing at George St, the street ahead is Park St. Behind is Queen Victoria Building, across the street to the left is The Galeries Victoria. Great places to shop and eat. The true "Sydnier" knows by instinct when the lights are about to change and will start crossing in good time before the lights. It actually works... :)
if anything its good planning... makes things more efficient and traffic is easier regulate

We have the exact same style of crossing over in New Zealand - that interaction looks similar to our Queen Street and Victoria East/West crossing.

Why is this crosswalk crazy, exactly?
Chessiness 4 years ago
Such pedestrian liberties are not taken on mainland europe; it is too difficult for all vehiclular traffic to do nothing at once.
Come, and I will show you if you wish.
Cheers.
