Thank god someone knows about drumming and drummers, seems all they know is Travis Barker, Rich will always be the top of the list but remember he hated rock music ! Bonham was no1 for rock, i would love to know who surpasses Rich today or any day, My pick of the best now Royster-Chambers-Cobham-Pert,a­nd Vinny Colleta. but there are so many greats out there its personal choice.

Bonham was a jazz drummer so He's not just no1 for rock, also check out Danny Carey from TOOL. I just saw them last night at Lollapalooza and DAMN, I can't recall ever seeing a better show than what TOOL did last night!  Maybe and this is a strong maybe but Red Hot Chili Peppers.

So I've yet to see anyone name names better than Buddy Rich. Regardless though I'm trying to figure out why someone asked me the question (niallie1984). All I did was comment suggesting looking at new drummers since one of the guys thought Will Calhoun was new.

I personally don't know that any drummer surpassed Buddy as far as power and finesse. I can definitely say that Bonham is up there. Buddy was a jerk in real life though.

Why are drummers in denial that drumming is a competition like any sport or anything lucrative in life? There is a no#1 drummer in the the Guitar Center comps?There is no competition for a sabian endorsement? So by a general voting poll we can assume there is a status quo number 1 drummer and we know him to be Buddy Rich

drumming becomes a competition when you just want to be better than anybody, but the thing is, playing drums wasnt made for competition, it was played to make music.

and buddy rich was a great drummer i agree, but if you would compare him to drummers today many have surpassed his skills, get over it dude.
