Speaking as a Massachusetts resident, I can tell you why Scott Brown beat Coakley. Because Coakley spoke as if the seat she was trying to fill belonged to Kennedy, and she acted like she had a right to it simply because she was a Democrat.
Also, both political parties need to be more moderate. Most Americans are moderates. Politicians should try representing their people more and their own pet ideologies less.

Scott Brown won in MA because there's only two parties. The GOP sucked, so the Dems got their chance, and they haven't delivered. Basically Dems have not listened. They just have run with their own agenda just like the GOP did.
I will say that as an aspiring attorney I aspire to defend the constitution and uphold the law. So, as I said before, like it or not, it was the proper constitutional ruling. Now, I'm sure that will piss at least one of you off. As for why the democrats lost in Mass. simple, it was a referendum on this entirely democratic federal government. Not even close to almost a doctor of jurisprudence yet. I have a different opinion than the court does, but no matter how I read it I come back to the same conclusion. Had they gone the other way they would have ultimately opened the door for mauling the first amendment. As I said, I do not like it, but I do believe it was the right decision.
If you guys are reffering to the recent Supreme Court decision, which I think you are, then I believe the court got it right. That does not change the fact that I do not like the decision but constitutionally speaking, it was the correct ruling. To deny an entity the ability to finance a campaign is to in essence restrict the first ammendment. I'm only a senior undergrad student (history) on my way to St. Mary's Law next fall so I'm not as completely educated as you two.

I don't think either of the parties of this two party system are worth trusting. They're out there for themselves, they don't give a crap about the people. That's been obvious for a long time.

Check it out. We do have avenues of recourse. Television is the main means of propaganda. It's a logical place to start in terms of a resistance movement.
Make no mistake: this is a battle for the life of the republic.
In the 1930's, we had a rapidly growing communist party that organized people to fight for their rights and economic justice. That allowed/forced Roosevelt to support the working class and fight the corporate interests. In the 1960's, we had dozens of growing socialist and communist parties fighting against the war and for civil rights and women's equality. That allowed/forced Democratic Politicians to support progressive change. We need to build strong socialist parties to fight corporations.
3) I read (some of) the opinions - and I simply disagree. This is a court with a reputation for favoring big business over the people, over and over again. This is their character. And it's downright immoral. They can say whatever they like - justices used to craft arguments rationalizing outright slavery. The founders were right about the judicial branch perhaps having too much power.
They lost because the Dem candidate in MA isn't fit to sit in the Senate...and there were no alternate Dem candidates so many Dems and Indep stayed home.
Besides, the teabagger Brown can't do any harm. He just wants to chase women and bash gays. He doesn't give a hoot about anything.
Corporations are only a threat if their bitch, Government, has the power to make laws in their favor. True Competition in a Moral society results in the most happiness for the most people. But morality cannot be forced from without, only from within. Prison or Freedom? Pick one. Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.
I voted for Ron Paul. I support Libertarians these days. But I think the Tea Party movement is already dead. It's been coopted by Big Money.
Not many people seem to be aware that the first of the modern TP revivals was a Ron Paul fund raiser for the last presidential election. Groups like the Campaign for Liberty arose (still a good group). Politicians and FOX types caught on, and ran to the head of the parade, and took it over.
Also, I have no plan of attending any such event. Fact of the matter is, I find a lot of them creepy and of a foul nature. So much anger, hatred, and downright bitterness - to say nothing of the undeniable bigots in the mix.
It's a damn shame.
So I disregard them. I don't want to be part of a movement that has no agenda other than being generically disgruntled and contrarian. Sets off all my creepy alarms.
Critical thinking: F. Air America off air and bankrupt. All major national talk shows; conservative. Fox news #1 for years and growing, progressive cable news and newspapers; dying. In elections, progressive politicians fall like stones to conservatives. Your conclusions are an indication you were taught what to think rather than how to think in college. "Experience keeps a dear school, yet fools will learn in no other."- B. Franklin. It is about lies, corruption, gov't intrusion and spending.
The enemy is our elected "representatives" that only represent corporate America and special interests. "We, the people...", are represented by no one.
Speaking as a Massachusetts resident, I can tell you why Scott Brown beat Coakley. Because Coakley spoke as if the seat she was trying to fill belonged to Kennedy, and she acted like she had a right to it simply because she was a Democrat.
Also, both political parties need to be more moderate. Most Americans are moderates. Politicians should try representing their people more and their own pet ideologies less.

They lost in MA because they had an awful candidate and the party had its priorities wrong. The current administration should be focusing or at least pretend to be focusing on jobs rather than socializing 1/6th of the economy. Not a good time to try that, but they had to try ideologically because they were in a now or not for a long long time type of situation. The catch 22 is that you can't push deficit spending Socialism in a bad economy and Socialism isn't wanted when the economy is good.

I will say that as an aspiring attorney I aspire to defend the constitution and uphold the law. So, as I said before, like it or not, it was the proper constitutional ruling. Now, I'm sure that will piss at least one of you off. As for why the democrats lost in Mass. simple, it was a referendum on this entirely democratic federal government. You don't have to be a political genius to see that.

Not even close to almost a doctor of jurisprudence yet. I have a different opinion than the court does, but no matter how I read it I come back to the same conclusion. Had they gone the other way they would have ultimately opened the door for mauling the first amendment. As I said, I do not like it, but I do believe it was the right decision.

If you guys are reffering to the recent Supreme Court decision, which I think you are, then I believe the court got it right. That does not change the fact that I do not like the decision but constitutionally speaking, it was the correct ruling. To deny an entity the ability to finance a campaign is to in essence restrict the first ammendment. I'm only a senior undergrad student (history) on my way to St. Mary's Law next fall so I'm not as completely educated as you two.

If a corporation is a legal person, then every employee and shareholder of one should be able to be put on trial for murder / manslaughter, etc, if they put out a product or take an action that leads to the death of any other person. If they are to have the rights of a person, they need to have the accountability of a person, which they do not.

In the 1930's, we had a rapidly growing communist party that organized people to fight for their rights and economic justice. That allowed/forced Roosevelt to support the working class and fight the corporate interests. In the 1960's, we had dozens of growing socialist and communist parties fighting against the war and for civil rights and women's equality. That allowed/forced Democratic Politicians to support progressive change. We need to build strong socialist parties to fight corporations.

And it's downright immoral. They can say whatever they like - justices used to craft arguments rationalizing outright slavery. I voted for Ron Paul. I support Libertarians these days. But I think the Tea Party movement is already dead. It's been coopted by Big Money.
Not many people seem to be aware that the first of the modern TP revivals was a Ron Paul fund raiser for the last presidential election. Groups like the Campaign for Liberty arose (still a good group). Politicians and FOX types caught on, and ran to the head of the parade, and took it over.
It's a product now, and it lacks cohesion.
