  • Wow that is just amazing

  • Great tribute. I've been watching Mr. Hoover do his routine since I was a kid, starting at the Edwards Air Force Base Air Show during the late sixties. Even then, he was considered a legend. His Energy Management routine was so impressive that my first pilot's license was in gliders, because I was inspired by Mr. Hoover to learn how to fly a plane without power! Ever since, I've had no fear of losing an engine in flight... Thank you, Mr. Hoover.

  • Yankin & bankin is everything

  • by the way. whered you the the plane and paint

  • I was able to see one of his last airshows in Reno 1999 wow amazing

  • •• SUNDAY, AUGUST 15, 2010

"It is my sad duty to tell all of you who read Bob's blog that Bob passed away this past Friday, August 13. How much he will be missed is incalcuable. Thank you all for all the support you have given him. I'm his wife. He was a great man."

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Bob do his amazing "energy management" demonstration at the Hillsboro airport near Portland, Oregon, many years ago. In this particular routine, he did all those maneuvers with the props feathered, which seemed to go on forever, and you just couldn't believe that plane could stay up that long without power. When he finally re-started the engines for the landing, I heard a lady behind me let out a big gasp of relief, and then say "Thank You ! ".

  • Very Well done tribute, and the modeling of that plane is flawless!

Here's to Bob Hoover, The oldest and the boldest.

  • Really great video! I like the combination of the subject "Bob Hoover" and the track you have in the video. Really well done!

  • Outstanding video! I am fortunate in that I got to see Bob perform in 1972, What he out that aircraft through was unbelievable. Bob Hoover became one with the plane when he got in it.

  • Stop with all the stupid computer game videos

  • Tank u .. now we all know that it's possible to do on FSX. Great idéa !

  • Where did u get that plane???

  • @619viewloader look at the end ...

  • where do i get this plane can you send this to me?and is it 4 FSX? cause u did a great job on this video

  • Very nice all the way around. Great flying, great music, great animation and tribute to a really great pilot, Bob Hoover. I was fortunate enough to see one of his last performances in the Shrike a few years ago at Sun-n-Fun, Lakeland, Florida.

  • @blusky121 Hey ya i saw him too to bad we cant see him agian. :(

  • Neat video, I was wondering how you were going to do the "one-wheel" landings, with Flight Simulators' incorrectly modeled rudder/yaw, and... you had to kind of "fake" it there, dang it.

(MSFS simply rams your nose in the direction of rudder deflection, without accurately depicting the effect on wing roll/drop - It's why you can't do "real" slips to landing in MSFS, other than in custom payware aircraft that model it better but still not strictly correctly.)

    X-plane might do it better??

  • I was lucky enough to see Bob perform at his last Oshkosh event... He is amazing... :-)

  • nice video mate, where do youve got his commander from?

  • THis is animation

  • Back in the 1970`s when I was in my mid 30s, I met and flew with Bob Hoover in his Aero Commader after and air pageant in Durban Southt Africa wher he was guest of honour

  • hey can u tell me the settings on thyis its so goos and mine looks crappy please help me out

  • OUT STANDING video and great "yanking and banking"!

I have watched Mr. R.A. Bob Hoover fly over the years, first in his yellow P-51 and then in the Commander. He is a pilot's pilot, a true stick and rudder man.

  • Thankyou Charlie! I wished I had seen his flights in person. Must've been awe inspiring.

  • Wow, you did such a great job of flying. Great song also. I'm sure you've done Bob Hoover proud. What airport is that?

  • Thanks!!!! Glad you liked it. The airport is Flytampa San DIego. :) CHeers!

  • This video is absolutely great. !!!!!!

Do you say me what song you have choosed??

  • Hi Thanks! I used the song from the movie Blood Diamond. The track is called "So you thought I wouldn't call"

  • very very nice video.

the song totally fix the video.. and.. YOU FLY GOOD

  • Thanks jason!

  • how do u get ur fs2004 to look so good

  • Excellent! I'm sure Bob Hoover is smiling! Pretty powerful rendering FS Thank you!. (not able to feather the props w/ software? )

  • Thanks! Actually I feathered them for a second, but accidently unfeathered them. hehe. FS2004, doesn't simulate prop drag anyway so I guess c'est la Vie. :)

  • Whew! I was fortunate enough to see the Man do this in person at Oshkosh in '77. A wonderfully executed tribute - both flying and videography!

  • THankyou. Wow, you lucky devil! :)

  • Well done! 5 stars all the way.

  • Hi Andy and thanks!! hehe, it's not usual that I get a compliment on both the UFO vids and the airplane vids by the same person!!

  • loved ur vid mate, where u get tht plane and were u using FSX or fs 2004? and lastly, who did that song, love it!

  • Thanks. This is FS2004, I got the plane as freeware on avsim's site. The song is from the movie "blood diamon" and the track is called "so you thought I wouldn't call"

  • thanks for that, luckily i got 2004

  • Long live FS2004!!!! Love it!

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Thankyou!

  • very nice flying!! great vid! 5 stars

  • Thanks!

  • thats because its a tribute dummy. Its through Flight Simulator 2004, and yes it is obvious that its fake, you don't have to state the obvious

  • converting energy into tears of joy and marvel.

    moving video beyond belief

  • Thankyou!!

  • great video, and good flying! A well done tribute to a legend.

  • Awesome Video! nice song!...great pilot!

  • x-plane?

  • Aero Commander 500

Shrike Commander what a nice plane to fly... reminds me of when I was flying my Britten Norman Islander mail route out of EKOD!

  • Saw this Pilot many times Live...Awesome!

Excellent Tribute to a Great Man!

I would like aircraft for FSX too.

  • Does anyone know the name of that aircraft?

  • The aircraft is a Shrike Commander built by North American Rockwell.

  • thanks mate!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD THIS AIRCRAFT FOR FSX?

  • When I watch this videos Renewed my love of aviation

    Nice job nice vid

    Bob Hoover is best pilot

    its in my Favorites

    thanks

  • Thankyou!

  • awesome tribute! I still think that Mr. Hoover is one of, if not _the_ one, best pilot that ever lived. Nice job

  • Thankyou Java! He was THE best, I agree

  • Normally I see watching flight sim vids as a waste of time but this is pretty damn good. Having the soundtrack from one of the best movies ever helps too.

  • Thanks smash!

  • What movie?

  • sweet vid, sweet tribute thanks

  • Thanks superguy!

  • Nice job. you need to feather your props. i think it's awesome that you were able to do it without the props feathered. That creates a lot of drag. Nice tribute!

  • You're right, I did in the cockpit view, but the exterior view it seemed to be unfeathered. But in FS2004, it doesn't simulate prop drag.

  • WTF!!! i´ve never seen a FS video so beautiful in my life. Magnificent, i´ve almost cried! Favorited for sure. Congratulations.

...By the way, what´s the name of the music?

  • THankyou rennanmfernandes! the music is form the soundtrack 'Blood Diamond' I think it was called "You thought I wouldn't call"

  • Comment removed

  • Well, I normaly hate (and put 1 star) on geeky Flight Sim "captures".

But man, the "filmmaking" if you wanna call it that way, and the soundtrack, is GREAT!!!

    Beautiful work!

  • Thankyou!!!

  • Fantastic, I think I saw his AeroCommander twin airplane at New Aviation Museum at Washinton Dulles Airport. I have watched Discovery Channle Video of Bob Hoover airshow routine many many times. Kitty Hawk, North Caroline, the birth place of aviation is another nice place to visit. My first YouTube Video is aerial video from a Cessna 172 over the Golden Gate Bridge.

  • Manbird that was a great video and a great tribute to an amazing aviator.

Next video tribute i would like you to do would be a Hudson river splashdown in a A320 in true Sullenberger style.

    Mr Sullenberger=Hero!

  • Man, isn't that the truth! Good Idea!

  • what is that plane called?

  • Beautifully flown! Was that one single flight? Did you plan all the maneuvers ahead of the flight? Anyway, 5/5!

  • hehe, that was the last flight out of about 50 that failed. :)

  • which is better x-plane or microsoft flight simulator 2004 ?

  • I think X-planes modeling of flight dynamics is top notch. FS is good with systems simulation and graphics.

  • If you want to develop aircraft, scenery, etc. X-Plane is more supportive of that as well.

  • is that x-plane? or which simulator?

  • FS2004

  • as of 12/11/08 mr. hoover is still among us. he has retired his act due to F.A.A. grounding him due to some obscure age/ insurance thingy.. however australia has granted him a pilots license.. he can fly anywhere in the world...'cept for the land of the free.

  • and, this has not been the first time this has happened to him. He had to put up with way more b.s. before.....

  • manbird... highest kudos available to you on this most excellent sim.. i saw bob pull this stunt at the chattanooga air show in 1994... a man a dozen feet from me died of a heart attack watching hoover's maneuvers... some folks just cant appreciate art

  • wow...... Thanks portrayedbyjim. :)

  • I dont normally watch flight sim video's on you tube, but I have to say that yours was excellent. Your control of the plane is almost exact to Bob Hoover and I would imagine pretty difficult to replicate on a sim.. well done 5/5

  • Thankyou inkjets, definitly not a video I'd want to redo again. hehe. :)

  • very nica video man

    it´s a good tribute

  • THankyou!!

  • at some moments it looks more like a bird than an airplane...

  • Thanks Arkthurius!

  • Great video. I have FS 20004. Where can I down load this plane from? Is it available for download?

  • THanks! it's actually free on avsim

  • He is the top master pilots and an aviation artister. thank you Manbird, I saw lot of FS2004 videos from you. In my mind, your videos are best among FS2004's, at least then;) did U step to FSX?;) and BTW, I'm excited to see the FS can do these as real. thank you for your good idea, I will try also. another way to respect Bob!

  • Thankyou so much!

    No FSX yet... ;)

  • I had not heard of Bob Hoover until I happened to find a video about him today. I was looking for other videos on him and when I saw this one was a simulation I almost stopped it. Im glad I didnt! As a former private pilot and FS enthusiast I can appreciate the work that must have gone into the making of this video. Its a very nice tribute and by far the best simulation video I have ever seen. Well done!

  • I'm so glad you enjoyed this video, leatherindian. Thankyou!

  • Awesome. I've never seen a computer-game video as good as this. Very nice views, very nice cutting, very nice music and very nice flying :)

  • Thankyou

  • what plane it is?

  • so how did you get those views off of fs2004? have i been playing it for years now and not figured out this feature yet?

great vid btw. music went with it perfectly. thumbs up by me..

  • Thanks! The in cockpit view was TrackIR, the ground view was Tower, and the "Tail Cam" was DBS Walk and Follow.

  • unfeathered props usually windmill

    but still, awesome video

  • I messed up on the feathering part. It's a good thing FS2004 doesn't simulate the drag from the props. ;)

  • I saw him do it at Sun 'n Fun...AWESOME pilot!

  • :o That was truly spectacular. Well done

  • What a fantastic tribute to a national treasure. I had the privilege of seeing Bob Hoover at Oshkosh a number of times - including standing right along the show center taxiway where he would park after performing the energy management series. Being both an aviation nut and a digital video editor, and Im completely impressed with the video. Well-conceived, well executed, well edited, and a fantastic musical choice. I almost expected to see Hoover waving his straw hat out the window at the end.

  • Hi milehighjc, and thankyou for saying that. I wish I had the privledge to see his aerial displays. Must have been truly awesome.

  • Im curious... did you capture the entire vid in one FS session, or did you edit together multiple. While I love FS, Im pretty sure I would have made a mess of the Shrike trying to fly that in one shot. RE: seeing him peform - its one of the most graceful shows Ive seen. The ones I saw, he flew with both engines, then on one, then pure dead stick. The sound with both engines off is just eerie (which is why I liked your musical choice so much)

  • Thankyou milehigh, I wanted to do the manuevers in one session but I couldn't figure out how to show 'proof" so I decided to do one continuous shot throughout all the phases of manuevers. It took me a long time to do the 8 point without plunging into the ground!

  • After flying the Shrike Commander, sticking my head inside Bob Hoovers Shrike Commander for a look see via permission from the only man he trusted to maintain this beautiful bird, owning/operating one myself...I believe Bob himself would be very proud of this piece. Maybe I'll send it to him myself...

    Take Care...

  • Hi ACA1225, thankyou!!!!!

  • to bad you couldn't stick the landing. lol

  • Hi Cueball, you mean the one wheel landing? That was Hover's manuever. You're supposed to land on one wheel, come back up and land on the other, then come back up and land normally. The second wheel landing caused me to touch both but that was the best I could do.

  • what song?

  • A great attempt to a geat airman...awesome video congratolations...

  • Well done!

  • Wow awesome video. Thanks for uploading.

  • Is ir KSAN?

  • This video makes me wish i was there.

    Loving it ;-)

  • Thankyou Skywolfit!!

  • awesome vid man!!! it really does a great pilot a real service!

  • Thankyou! :)

  • bob hoover, the skyman, the video is asome, the best i se in fs videos, is fs9?

  • Yes sir, fs9. THankyou!

  • How did you get the plane with vc for fs9?. the only one I can find has no virtual cockpit.

  • Beautiful.

  • Must be FSX; I've never seen FS2004 look that good.

  • nope, fs2004. :)

  • airbus Bob Hoover is the greatest stick and rudder pilot ever. He can do things with airplanes that dazzle even the most veteran of pilots. There is autobiography and a video that follow his career from WWII to current. The Shrike was retired several years ago due to insurance requirements.

  • Question, is Bob Hoover dead or alive? I'm just wanting to know.

  • He is dead but he lives on in great videos like these.

  • Bob Hoover isn't dead.

  • Please add "FS" behind the headline in all this flightsim videos!!!

  • no I will not, but feel free to put any title you want on your own video.

  • its so good that it deserves more than that "Fs" title at the beginning.

  • Thankyou Abassi! The VC was pretty lame that's why I didn't use it much but it was the best freeware plane on avsim

  • wtf is bob hoover???

  • OMG! :O the best fucking that i see in my life!! DUEED nice vid man, cangratulation! really i feel the pasion and the song is like, omg dont know... anyways, Viva Bob Hoover! wuju!

    Saludos desde P.R!

  • Thats amazing! did you make it with flight sim? and what plane is that?

  • THanks! Yes I made it with FS2004, the plane is freeware from avsim

  • Simply beautiful. This is what flying is all about. It just makes you feel so free watching this and listening to the music!!! Thanks once again, William

  • THankyou!

  • Nice job man. I think you're ready to execute this in the aircraft. btw, cool song. What's the name of it?

  • hehe, thanks. The song is "YOu thought I wouldn't call" from the movie 'Blood Diamond'

  • he is ready because he watched a video?

  • I didn't watch the video, I made this video. And although I don't claim I can do this in the real thing, (most likely I can not), I am a pilot in real life and with about 20 years practice.. I could probably get pretty close, IMHO. ;)

  • fabulous work. i have seen him perform at oshkosh a few times, many years ago. He is such an incredible pilot. This tribute actually made me cry. How did you do it? I mean, did you actually pilot the simulator? then you must be a great pilot yourself. or can you program the manouvers? Maybe you got bob to fly the sim?

    Really really nice work!

  • Hi Cottage and thankyou very much for your kind comments. :), Yes I piloted the sim fo the video. It was a very frustrating experience trying to pull off all of those manuevers without crashing into the ground at the end with no airspeed. But it finally worked out. I'm glad video was pleasing!

  • Fantastic video and tribute, enjoyed it a lot!

  • is this fs10? really can see the difference. the motion is so realistic and the graphics are great, clouds don't look like paintings anymore.

  • Hi This is FS2004 using Active sky which is why the clouds are a little more realistic. Thanks for watching!

  • ive seen Mr. Bob Hoover fly his show in person. its breathtaking and magnificent. This video here is a fine tribute to a fine man.

  • Thankyou fly310r, I'm glad I didn't dissapoint.

  • I was about to ask the same question regarding Bob Hoover if he was still living. I had the privilege of meeting and flying with him in Durban , South Africa back in 1977 when he performed his aerobatic manoeuvres in his Aero Commander 500B. An incredible pilot

  • If there has ever been a better pilot than Bob Hoover, I have no idea who it could have been.

  • What is your PC strength for running this sim ? DOes it get hung up ? Great video...

  • My PC now is probably a standard setup. I'm using Core 2 Dual OC'ed to 3.2Ghz 1 gig ram, sata hard drive, Nvidea 7900 (probably a slow card in comparison to today's video cards)

  • My PC now is probably a standard setup. I'm using Core 2 Dual OC'ed to 3.2Ghz 1 gig ram, sata hard drive, Nvidea 7900 (probably a slow card in comparison to today's video cards)

  • Cool thanks. I actually used FS2002 for my check rides. I ran the approaches over and over, I love it. I flew the SHorts 360, looks like a shoe box with wings !

  • Very well done! Hats off to you for a great video!

  • Thankyou MrPilot1230

  • is bob hoover still living

  • Yes

  • is bob hoover still living

  • Great video....even a heavy metal fan like me has to admit you couldn't have picked better music for Bob to fly to.....kudos.....

  • Thankyou skyshiptropper

  • Excellent Video!! Great Job!!

  • I cried watching this. I too saw Hoover do this live back in the 80's. What a great pilot!!!!!

    Thanks!!!!

  • Thankyou sir!

  • OUTSTANDING!! I have made three aviation videos with music using FRAPS and MS Moviemaker of which I am proud. Bust after seeing this one...WOW! I saw Bob hoover do all this in a Shrike and I got his autograph. You broaught back memories and a little tear. Thanks man.

  • Thankyou crabsnbeer!!!

  • Beautiful! Looks like it was done with X-Plane and the airfield looks like Lindbergh Field in San Diego. Good job!

  • Thankyou Av8, your right about the field, I'm using FS2004 for the simulator. X-Plane is awesome, wish I still had my copy!!

  • This was amazing! what is the name of this song..I must know!

    great clip...a lot of feeling.

  • hi Djosue! The song is from the movie 'Blood Diamond' the title is "thought I'd never come home"

  • thankies!!! The video is great, I just got the aircraft and I'm practicing on my skills..great feeling!!

  • In 1972 I saw Bob Hoover demonstrate the Shrike at an airshow in Alton, IL. That's the only time I saw him fly in person. He did everything in this video and more. Great video, just like 1972 again! Thanks

  • no comment during all video!

    SUPERBE!
