I'm a senior in high school and I'm tutoring a sophomore in algebra, and she's been struggling with properties of logs and properties of exponents for quite a bit. Your explanation seems much simpler than what I've been able to communicate. I'm definitely going to use your method to try and present a different way of learning it, and then refer her to these videos for review. Thanks!
@patrickJMT is there an easy way to work out what the square number is going to be or do you just go through them all in your head log3 243=x you have to go raise three to the power five times before you get to the answer, what do you do if the answer is very question is harder

i didn't attend my math class this morning. then, my teacher's discussion is all about this. what i did is.... i watched this video and i am really able to understand. and FYI, i take down notes as if this video in front of me is my REAL teacher. lol. :))
thanks, this really helped!!! I like how when u showed the examples, u went from the simple stuff to the harder problems. Unlike my teacher, he teaches us the easy stuff and expects us to know what to do when it gets tricky.
Thank you so much for your videos man. Im stuck with an Asian teacher this semester who not only has a horrible accent and language barrier, but shoots through our chapters. my precalc teacher has been trying to explain this basic shit to me all year. and i understand it now within the first 4 minutes of watching this video. thanks a lot whoever you are.

@Rosierex96 i can help u this question,u jz follow the rule of patrickjmt from these videos,u wil get 3^2=2-x,then 9=2-x,so the ans is -7....is this esy!

I believe the problem with many teachers is that they have knowledge of the material that they have learned themselves, but cannot "teach" the material to their students. Thus, I notice teachers who "believe" that they are capable of teaching material, when they really cannot. You, have that talent of teaching. Teaching is a talent, a gift, and you have that.
Great tutorial, except when talking in a mic, try to have it to the side of your head instead of directly in front of your mouth so there isn't any wind that the mic is picking up from your mouth.
@hellabadasiwannabe you should probably look up what is on the g.e.d. as opposed to trusting random people on the internet. this is considered high school algebra, so i would not be shocked to see it, but i personally have no clue.
@patrickJMT Not really. I took every algebra class offered at my old high school and I never seen Logs until recently in college. I have talked to several people who took higher level math classes in high school and they say that they saw logs mostly in trig and never in their algebra classes.
@hellabadasiwannabe No you don't. GED pretty much covers pre algebra, I took it and passed with excellent scores at 15, and the level of math I'm at now is very complex vs the GED level although this is taught in High School. If you've been out of school awhile you should probably find some kind of testing/prep center to take an assessment test to see where you are at. Hopefully they have free prep classes. Even pre algebra can knock you off your feet if you haven't opened a math book in years.
@searize It's not too important unless you are majoring in business/finance. You will probably not see this again ever unless you are an accountant or plan on making your taxes complicated. Logarithms were more important years ago than they are today and they have no applications to the real world (unless you fall under the forementioned).
@hellabadasiwannabe Exponentials and logarithms are two big parts of Algebra 2, I'm in Algebra 2 right now as a high school student, and it's most of the finals, if I were you, I would check and see if you need to know it or not, but most likely yes, they're important
WOW!! this has definitely helped me! i was so confused but you make it so simple thank you!! p.s. i have an exam tomorrow! so hopefully this goes well!
At 5:40 you change the exponent to -2, why would you only change the exponent to a negative? I know that a fraction is the negative of a number, but why only the exponent?
@Mistaman1096 He changed the sign of the exponent of seven from 2 to -2 because he changed the seven from the denominator to the numerator. For example, one half is equal to two to the power of -1.
wow, you're great..the way you explain math is just amazing. i'm still wondering what is it that make your explaination soooo clear, cause you just "write and talk" like every other teachers but yet it goes down my brain sooo nice and smooth.thank you!!!

Thorough explanation! Thank you. Logarithms constitutes the last chapter of my last college algebra course in undergrad at the University of Maryland. My final exam is next week, and I graduate December 16. Your video was truly a Godsend. Much thanks!
My teacher made a good point yesterday - When she was in school they did not use scientific calculators. They had to know the base of the first 3 exponents. Then they used them to get any number needed. Imagine doing math by hand for logarithims! WOW! I am so happy we can use a calculator!

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH. I couldn't understand how to use the properties AT ALL until watching this video. All those b of x to the y were just mumbo jumbo until you showed it in practice.

@beautifullychaos Sure, no problem. I am a Mathematics minor in college.
