  • i owe u my life

  • I'm a senior in high school and I'm tutoring a sophomore in algebra, and she's been struggling with properties of logs and properties of exponents for quite a bit. Your explanation seems much simpler than what I've been able to communicate. I'm definitely going to use your method to try and present a different way of learning it, and then refer her to these videos for review. Thanks!

  • @UltimateAlley good luck on the tutoring; it is the best way to learn something! thanks for referring my videos as well, it is appreciated.

  • @UltimateAlley aw nice trying to put the wood to her ;) good luck

  • @patrickJMT is there an easy way to work out what the square number is going to be or do you just go through them all in your head log3 243=x you have to go raise three to the power five times before you get to the answer, what do you do if the answer is very question is harder

  • Excellent explanation ,Thank you !

  • For that last step in the last question: can 2 times log 3x be written as 2log3x?

  • You are a plethera of usefulness!!!! be my teacher :)

  • you are my hero. thank you !!!!!!!!!

  • Ahh! thank you so much i can never understand what my teacher is saying in math. i like him but i dont feel he is the best at explaining and my book is even worse at explaining things! you are such a great help thanks for uploading your videos ^-^

  • You are the go to guy when I'm studying for my math tests! Seriously, thank you for explaining these topics clearly and concisely. I REALLY appreciate it!

  • @burnsie2722 happy to help : )

  • OOOHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMYYYYY GGGOOODDD !!!!

I don't Expect that this is way too EASY !!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!

It's just like your talking with me ... Unlike my Teacher , he's talking on the board... TT

I'm looking forward for more Math Tutorials Video ... thanks !! :D YOU ROCK !!!

  • @reeseleighable1 lots of math stuff here, come back and watch any time : )

  • Mathematix RocKs!

  • You explain these math problems better then my professor

  • Leading cause of suicide in American high schools.

  • This is such a great video, I take notes and learn. Thank you so much for the extra help, Im finally understanding logs. God bless you PatrickJMT!

  • thanks to this. :)

  • i didn't attend my math class this morning. then, my teacher's discussion is all about this. what i did is.... i watched this video and i am really able to understand. and FYI, i take down notes as if this video in front of me is my REAL teacher. lol. :))

  • Well done dude, wish you all the best in your future.

  • Raping the replay button

  • thanks, this really helped!!! I like how when u showed the examples, u went from the simple stuff to the harder problems. Unlike my teacher, he teaches us the easy stuff and expects us to know what to do when it gets tricky.

  • Thank you!

  • I'm confused, my textbook said that it was b^x=y

  • well what do i do if there's a big ole fat TWO in front of the logarithm???? ( 2log(x) - 2 = log(3-8x) ) ???

  • @SourSideSweetie pull it upstairs as an exponent

  • i was just getting calculus help a couple weeks ago and now your helping me ace math... WOW! Thanks!

  • Left handed? Woo, me too! :)

  • Patrick, I always wanted to know, are you a /b/ro?

  • @guba2giba i bet he lurks a lot

  • te amoooooo!

  • Thank you so much for your videos man. Im stuck with an Asian teacher this semester who not only has a horrible accent and language barrier, but shoots through our chapters. Im stuck having to teach myself what she went over in class on my own. Your videos definitely make it so much easier. I really appreciate your help.

  • how do you solve logarithms with radical numbers?

  • you make it look eeeeeeeeeeeeezi THANK U!!!

  • @Rudeka11 you are very welcome : )

  • Thank you once again.

  • You have made my freshman year of college alot easier :). Thank you.

  • Thank you for helping out people. May God bless you more for the things you've done freely.!

  • your videos are helping me so much. my college algebra teacher sucks at teaching and i learn everything i need for my quizzes from ur videos thank you!!!

  • Could log3 (y+1) be written this way as well (y+1) log3 ?

  • @rjravaz yes

  • GReat work

  • my precalc teacher has been trying to explain this basic shit to me all year. and i understand it now within the first 4 minutes of watching this video. thanks a lot whoever you are.

  • no shit

  • The way I remember for converting log to exponent is the Left Right Center rule. Whereas, the left exponent the right, equals the center. Very easy to remember.

  • FUCK ADVERTISEMENTS!

  • @awesomeninja241 Firefox + AdBlockPlus Add-on ;)

  • Hi. Just letting you know, I love you(r videos).

    Thank you SO much.

    <3

  • THANKS so much, i have a test on this thursday and i was so lost, now i understand it slightly better.

  • How do you solve log base 3(2-x)=2?

  • @Rosierex96 i can help u this question,u jz follow the rule of patrickjmt from these videos,u wil get 3^2=2-x,then 9=2-x,so the ans is -7....is this esy!

  • @yaechun Thank you so much! I understand it a little better now.

  • THANK YOU. Finally, someone who includes an actual example with the basic rules. This is the best instruction video I have seen all day.

  • so this is how teachers make a lil something extra. I was wondering how they survive on their salaries haha.

  • He's a LEFTY :D

  • the bottom stuff...lol

  • great explanation

  • your a star!! Thank you

  • Very Helpful!

  • I hate logarithms soo much

  • Thanks! 100000 times easier to understand than to my crappy engineering math 1 book.

  • what rolls down the stairs alone or in pairs and over your neighbor's dog what's great for a snack and fits on your back it's log log log it's log it's log it's heavy it's big it's wood it's log it's log it's better than bad it's good everyone wants a log come on and get your log your gonna love it log log log log LOG FROM BLAMMO!
  • @ExtensionChord it doesn't...?

  • I believe the problem with many teachers is that they have knowledge of the material that they have learned themselves, but cannot "teach" the material to their students. Thus, I notice teachers who "believe" that they are capable of teaching material, when they really cannot. You, have that talent of teaching. Teaching is a talent, a gift, and you have that.

  • this video refuses to load for me...unreal

  • logarithms are bullshit

  • Great tutorial, except when talking in a mic, try to have it to the side of your head instead of directly in front of your mouth so there isn't any wind that the mic is picking up from your mouth.

  • I hate logs! lol

  • Argh, I'm rushing ahead in this alg 2 chapter, and this helped me understand more then what the book explained.

You explain things so clearly, I'm starting to like math. ;D

  • what is this algebra ? will i need to know this on the g.e.d ? someone please answer!!!

  • @hellabadasiwannabe you should probably look up what is on the g.e.d. as opposed to trusting random people on the internet. this is considered high school algebra, so i would not be shocked to see it, but i personally have no clue.

  • @patrickJMT Cool Patrick, you uploaded this video on Einstein's birthday lol, he would be proud indeed.

  • @patrickJMT Not really. I took every algebra class offered at my old high school and I never seen Logs until recently in college. I have talked to several people who took higher level math classes in high school and they say that they saw logs mostly in trig and never in their algebra classes.

  • @patrickJMT Math only goes through geo for the GED.

  • @hellabadasiwannabe Dude were doing this in grade 10

  • @SlickCJL lol me too.

  • @hellabadasiwannabe No you don't. GED pretty much covers pre algebra, I took it and passed with excellent scores at 15, and the level of math I'm at now is very complex vs the GED level although this is taught in High School. If you've been out of school awhile you should probably find some kind of testing/prep center to take an assessment test to see where you are at. Hopefully they have free prep classes. Even pre algebra can knock you off your feet if you haven't opened a math book in years.

  • @hellabadasiwannabe you should kno this regerdless for life

  • @searize It's not too important unless you are majoring in business/finance. You will probably not see this again ever unless you are an accountant or plan on making your taxes complicated. Logarithms were more important years ago than they are today and they have no applications to the real world (unless you fall under the forementioned).

  • @hellabadasiwannabe Exponentials and logarithms are two big parts of Algebra 2, I'm in Algebra 2 right now as a high school student, and it's most of the finals, if I were you, I would check and see if you need to know it or not, but most likely yes, they're important

  • @hellabadasiwannabe just get your diploma...

  • @hellabadasiwannabe what is g.e.d??

  • @hellabadasiwannabe does g.e.d,by any chance,stand for general education?

  • WOW!! this has definitely helped me! i was so confused but you make it so simple thank you!! p.s. i have an exam tomorrow! so hopefully this goes well!

  • we're both lefthanded nice

  • thank you dahling! you helped me so much with my algebaic worksheet !

    SEX.

    <333 gigbby.

  • Thank you so much..I could actually do my homework and comprehend it. It's really nice to actually be able to say that and mean it for a change.

  • At 5:40 you change the exponent to -2, why would you only change the exponent to a negative? I know that a fraction is the negative of a number, but why only the exponent?

  • @Mistaman1096 He changed the sign of the exponent of seven from 2 to -2 because he changed the seven from the denominator to the numerator. For example, one half is equal to two to the power of -1.

  • thanks man helped soooo much!!!

  • thanks!

  • Thank You !!! Much Needed help.

  • lol woah! The one with the log2x=3 was on my quiz today!!! got it wrong though...lol

I thought the answer was 3. But our teacher explained it to ua afterwards, so now I know

  • can you help me with this problem ? log(7x-13)*log(25x^2)=0

  • wow, you're great..the way you explain math is just amazing. i'm still wondering what is it that make your explaination soooo clear, cause you just "write and talk" like every other teachers but yet it goes down my brain sooo nice and smooth.thank you!!!

  • you make me want to do my math homework using my left hand and a sharpie

  • Cheers! I've been trying to study for the GAMSAT (read: Australian MCAT), but haven't covered logs since highschool 10 years ago, which has been making a fair bit of chemistry and physics difficult. This has been a great refresher, thanks!

  • i have a calc test tomm. thank you thank you thank you!!!

  • you are actually my hero, i will pass my exam thanks to you

    thank you soo much :)

  • you are actually my hero, i will pass my exam thanks to you

    thank you soo much :)

  • you're actually my hero, i'm going to pass my exam thanks to you :D

  • you're actually my hero, i'm going to pass my exam thanks to you :D

  • These videos are my exam review :)

  • Just a question. If for example I have 2^x=256. x=8 but what if i didn't know that. is there a method of x if i have no idea what it is?

    Thanks Heaps :D

  • I love YOU so MUCH.

  • Patrick thanks so much for putting up these videos. They really do help out. You are really good at explaining. Keep up the awsome work !!! you are my math god

  • thanks Pat , you made it look so simple unlike my teacher who made me go crazy !

  • thank you so much!

i wasn't there the day we learned this, and my teacher didn't show me how to do it when i came back. she just handed me the papers.

this helped me so much ~

  • Great work! My teacher actually sent us this link!

  • very good

  • thanks

  • gahh still confusing. but i get it.

  • Parick JMT- YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank youuuuuu. loving your vids :] thanks so much

  • Aw you missed a phone call for us. That's dedication right there Sir Patrick.

Also, you should do a video in your southern accent - I think you mentioned you have one in another video.

  • @logotgr my southern accent periodically comes through in many of the videos. i try to stay pretty neutral when i make these videos for y'all.

  • @patrickJMT your amazing, thx you helped so much. i love the male species because their soo helpful

    ~ 16 year old female

  • Thanks for this video. Very helpful.

  • you should be my math teacher !

  • I love you patrick .. no homo :P

  • Thorough explanation! Thank you. Logarithms constitutes the last chapter of my last college algebra course in undergrad at the University of Maryland. My final exam is next week, and I graduate December 16. Your video was truly a Godsend. Much thanks!

  • Love the video!!! I need a quick refresher on this material!!! You rock!!!

  • you really helped me out thank you and please make more

  • Wow. I just had a total revelation on how to look at logs, something that would have saved excessive frustration and difficulty. Thank you brother

  • - - this video really helped me out. thanks !

  • - - this video really helped me out. thanks !

  • dammmmm your left hand!!

  • My teacher made a good point yesterday - When she was in school they did not use scientific calculators. They had to know the base of the first 3 exponents. Then they used them to get any number needed. Imagine doing math by hand for logarithims! WOW! I am so happy we can use a calculator!

  • You did a good job!

  • thank you......you have helped me alot...finals in two weeks lol

  • THANK YOU!!! IT WAS REALLY HELP FULL!!

  • Thank you Patrick for helping clarify what I had trouble learning in class.

  • Thankyou Patrick for helping clarify what I had trouble learning in class.

  • THANK YOU. FINALS NEXT WEEK

  • I bet your students love you and your videos huh ? Thanks for such a well paced video and it explains the concepts better than other people on YouTube .

  • Thanks for the videos! your site is awesome and much needed!

Thank you thank you thank you!

  • you can explain better than my own teacher of mathematics! Now I get it!!

  • i was hoping you would be more conceptual. I was expecting to find the graphical explanation of the log function and similarly explanation of what "e" actually is. Nevertheless, sir, you need to be appreciated for your unselfish effort

  • @herojha what is a log? that is the very first thing i do. what is e? it is a number: 2.71....

  • @patrickJMT left handed ppl are cool!

  • sir what i actually meant was i would be grateful if you could explain how we got the number "e" and why does it have that particular value 2.71......

  • @herojha I think he is awesome. Got me my A!

  • @maureen1002 of course he is! i never said he isn't! just wanted a little bit more detail (people are never satisfied you know!)

  • patrickJMT you're my hero

  • OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH. I couldn't understand how to use the properties AT ALL until watching this video. All those b of x to the y were just mumbo jumbo until you showed it in practice.

Thanks. You have just saved me from failing a test.

  • Your the best calculus teacher ever. Thanks alot

  • I wish my algebra and trigonometry class were as easy as you make this stuff seem. Thank you for making it less complicated and more understandable.

  • your telephone is ringing

  • Patrick, thank you so much for helping thousands of students around the world. You do really make a difference. You follow what Leonardo Davinci said. "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"

  • Dude thank you so much, you just got me to pass my math test coming up. I can't understand my freeaking teacher

  • Please replace my calculus teacher. I've learned more from you in 10 minutes than I have from him this entire year. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  • This is amazing, thank you so much for sharing. Instead of flipping through old math textbooks to refresh my memory, I can make efficient use of my time and watch your videos.

  • I second the comment below. THANK YOU!

  • you have no idea what these videos mean to me...who are the 7 people that dislike this video??

  • Can someone PLEASE give me the decimal answer for

    3e to the 3x+6 power =18?

  • @beautifullychaos Sure, no problem. I am a Mathematics minor in college. Well, first this equation has an "e" in it and e = ln, so now we will change that to 3 ln e^(3x+6) = ln(18). ln and e cancels each other (expect ln(18) because the base is not "e." Then we multiply the 3(3x+6) = ln(18). Now we have 9x + 18 = ln(18). Subtract 18 with ln(18) and its not 0; its ln(18) = 2.890 - 18 = -15.11. Divide 9x = -15.11 and x = -1.68. I hope this helps!

  • thank you so you are the best

  • Thanks you so much for the time you put into this. It really helped me to properly understand this. And you obviously helped a whole lot of other people too :)

And everybody here should check out your website!!! Really helpful stuff on there!!!

  • oh gosh thankyou!!

i was confused with the fractions :)) but u helped :D

  • thanks buddy...really too generous of you to donate your time in the current era of time to teach people.

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

  • You rock!

  • thank you so much sir!!

  • you are too smart, thank you for putting so much time and effort into these, they are so helpful

  • okay so i think i love you..without you id be failing alg2. thanks.p.s. your ahmazing!(:

  • Your the man bro.

  • Thank you so much! My online math class has been passing your videos around. You're helping tons of people in WA State! :D

  • Your videos have saved me from taking summer school again. Thanks for sharing!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

  • you are my hero... this is the only video on log that makes sense.. thank you

  • youtube = studybuddy... :) patricJMT it's very generous of you to donate your time for free to teach people mathematics online.

  • @whisper012 it is nice to know that some many people out there in internet land appreciate my efforts : )

  • @patrickJMT it is much appreciated

  • @patrickJMT

    those who don't are idiots!
