It's definitely some percussion instrument of some sort though. It sounds wooden, and Timbaland uses it in a lot of his other songs too, although I don't know what it's called. :(

Plus, if you actually listened properly to the instrumental, you'd hear that it actually changes slightly every 4 bars. You may not notice it, but the producers change every little thing to make the song perfect. But it's difficult to appreciate if you didn't grow up listening to urban music.

I don't think it's that easy, there's many sounds that are subtly active and don't have a huge auditory presence in the instrumental but still contribute to its overall awesomeness. I mean, "basically" yeah, you've got it right but when u go deep into detail, it's actually much more complex. And when I say Im proud of it, Im just really fckin around. Bottom line there's tons and sounds of instruments in this and I've learned to discern each one without ever referring to the instrumental version.
