  • Not a religious man but I think God shows up about 5:25.

  • Thanks so much for the up! Amazing...

  • this is so fucking beautiful.

  • Anyone who knows if Mark or Michael were using the Boss OS-2 for this song?

  • the berrics! lol

  • this song on my funeral! :)

  • everything you need to know about human beings is on this song

  • OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • I agree with the top two comments. It's so cool to be able to play your fav songs. I encourage anybody to pick up a guitar and try to learn how to play it. Believe me, it's not as half hard as you think it is. The feeling you'll get while playing a x number of songs, not matter what tat number is, it will make the effort well worth it.. And yes, Post rock riffs are very easy to learn

    Peace.

  • everyone should just keep their comments to themselves and eenjoy this wonderful song.!

  • Also, anyone saying 'this is really easy to play' is missing the point. All of these guys are fucking amazing musicians, their tremolo technique is exemplary, and I'm sure they can 'shred' as well as anyone. But instead of wanking their guitars they choose to write beautiful symphonies of sound, and for that I am truly thankful. If you can do better, PLEASE do, cos I would bloody love it.

  • @jimim22 Agree.

  • saw them the other night in boston. when it got to the searing lead line near the end they turned on all the lights in the theatre. I watched a few thousand people in complete bliss. Possibly the most alive I've ever felt.

  • @jimim22 Was at that show too, absolutely amazing

  • Saw them tonight at the Tower Theatre. One of the most mind blowing shows I have ever seen in my entire life.

  • I don't mean to compare, but this song/band has really grown on me over time. I started listening to mostly "This Will Destroy You" which I really enjoyed. But there's a lot of depth to this band which has surfaced from many listens. Enjoyable!

  • Oh man.... me & I, a big fat joint, a beautiful clear night with a starry sky and a outdoor concert with them....TRULY EXPLOSIONS IN THE S K Y !!!!

    -Miss Venus

  • Beautiful. My only wish is that I'd come across this band sooner. I have much to catch up on.

  • orgasm in rainy day!

  • truely amazing work of music

  • BOOOOORING!

Hahaha, just kidding. I love this band. I just saw them last Friday and it was AMAZING! So much power in their songs. YouTube -or even their CD!- does NOT do it justice. See them live and you'll shit your pants from happiness (can that happen?!)!!!!!

  • I want them and Sigur Ros to make a compilation. Their guitars would compliment those vocals so well.

  • Gives me chills. I feel sorry for listeners that find this boring.

  • listen combustiones !

  • wow that is some boring music. tried three songs, almost fell asleep

  • @fixedgearplanet then you cant appreiciate good music

  • Fuck religion. This shit is my spiritual awakening

  • @Chris Dwyer, does your soul come alive listening to this music?

  • post rock is very creative music.. saying that it is simple is insane. just because they aren't doing sweep arpeggios don't mean it inst difficult. they spend hours creating the textures they get from effects and diff playing techniques.

  • more explosions less duds plz

  • I'm having difficulty understanding how instrumental music could be seen as pretentious.

  • "At such moments I always remember a forged painting I once saw. In a museum in Amsterdam: Van Gogh. A fascinating art work. Each violent brushstroke was reproduced with painstaking, non-violent care. The forgery must have taken many many times longer than the original to complete. It was technically better than the original. And yet something was missing. Not much, but something. And that small something may as well have been everything."

Not technical, but emotional, musical perfection.

  • was this the showbox?

  • the hairs on like a legs are tingling:)

  • good music

  • surrender to the void

  • 5:30 the payoff

  • I really miss a bass in this...

  • @zaretix and post rock bass playing is rediculously unexplored too. how often do you hear ambient bass playing??

  • Does Mark Smith use a Jazzmaster or Mustang, anyone know?

  • @IkkeEngangTraerne Ibanez talman, fender toronado, strat/ tele are bassicaly the guitars of the group

  • what kind of guitar does michael have in this video, does anybody know? the blue one..

  • @3559onelove It looks to me like an ibanez talman/ kim gordon from sonic youth had used this kind of guitar on tour in early 2000

  • Awesome Song!!!

  • i like this song.

  • i love when the build comes to a head and they go full rhythm and the melody is iffy and to make something so dissonant into something amazing like the first time somebody realized they could make mud bricks or some shit and everybody has that moment of what the fuck in there lives and that melody makes up for all the shit in your life

  • WHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO MARCEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow - i wasn't sure if I loved this song or not, but i keep playing it over and over ;-)

  • Stop feeding the Babynutria troll. 66% of all his comments are on Explosions in the Sky videos. (Why would he post on EitS videos if not to troll?)

  • @2un7zu Somebody close to me asked if I had ever heard of them, so I thought it might be good. I was wrong. Trolling is funny as f*ck though... Thanks for not feeding me; I need to go on a diet at this point.

  • @Babynutria

    lolololololololol. Twas fun.

  • If you like this, Check out Past and Language with Vicous Misadventures from Las Vegas. AMAZING. Reminds me so much of explosions in the sky.

  • this looks like a blast to play live. such exhileration with the crowd..

  • If it is easy and requires no skill then why didn't any of you write it?

  • AAAAAAAAWWWWWWWEEEEEEESSSSSSSOOOOOOOOMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

  • The classical music of the modern soul.

  • I really dig this tune. A guitarist doesn't have to be Yngwie Malmsteen to convey emotion. Why don't these critics acknowledge that simplicity is often the best way of getting the message across. BB King plays, like, 14 notes in a song. Tell me he doesn't make them count. Tell me he doesn't make Lucille TALK! also...stop mentioning Beiber. He is irrelevent .

  • anyone else think Explosions reminds them of WILD STALLIONS?!

  • I saw them on friday at primavera sound 2011(barcelona)....first line, volume so high! It was PERFECT

  • I listen to music like this all the time while i paint. Everyone should check out Mogwai, and Sigur Ros also if you like this stuff.

  • 4:20 changed my life. hahaha ironic, and fitting circumstances...

  • wow.

  • AAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhh!!!! Arrechisimo minuto 5:12

  • If only all of us could see minimalism as true art as well. Just because someone else can easily play it, or the song or pieces itself can be easily played, doesn't mean it will be played with the same feeling as the creator, in this case Explosions in the Sky. Sure, each part is relatively simple, but set upon one another, to create a barrier, a wall, of sound that becomes so complex with emotion it fills each crevice of your soul with feeling. Yeah, that's a fucking gift.

  • @UnitedMusiciansInc

    Agreed. So much.

  • @UnitedMusiciansInc completely agree. when music transcends the audio, into visceral attack into the soul, there is no better response than an emotional upturn.

  • @UnitedMusiciansInc How in anyway is this minimalism? so much going on

  • @H4RM0N1C5 Because each seperate piece is minimal. They only become complex when played together.

  • They are so high.... -_____-

  • art is subjective. example...some people really love minimalist artists...while others dont like it all. Usually people dont like things that they dont understand. and out of ignorance lash out that it is crap...that no one should like it....that everyone that likes it is stupid. when in reality. Its the insecurity of not understanding. You dont have to like this music. Im sure there are things that you like....that other people dont like.

  • @Babynutria

Have you tried playing post-rock? From the looks of it you have not. Seriously, shut the fuck up dude if you have nothing good to say about this genre of music. In my opinion, the simplicity that is post-rock equals beauty. It shows that we ourselves can reach a musical euphoria without playing some complicated composition. It's not what can you play, but what you feel in the music that counts.

  • @idiotfiles Your opinion is incorrect. I've played better crap wasted at 3:00am. Any dumb kid can make this noise with a Mexican strat. and a delay pedal. Go listen to some jam-bands f*cking fan boy.

  • @Babynutria

Oh? Any sad excuse for an adult can do the same thing with any other guitar as long as the pickups aren't shot to shit. Please if you will, how is my opinion incorrect? Why don't you make an unlisted video of yourself wasted at three in the morning playing the guitar and post it here. I'll gladly watch it. Trolling.

  • @idiotfiles I would put up a vid, but You Tube would remove it due to content; I'd be naked. And masturbating (on the guitar to re-create this crappy music).

  • @Babynutria if you could you would put up a video of you fist fucking baby nutrias while eating your own shit and jerking off all at the same time. so that comment doesn't mean anything, it just shows how fucking retarded (and creepy) you are.

  • @Babynutria What music do you like man? If its anything from the "Billboard Top 100" than i'll laugh my ass off.

  • @Babynutria what bands to you listen too? let me guess, your 13 and just found a nirvana cd. grow up kid.

  • @Babynutria how can you say that an OPINION is incorrect?

  • @idiotfiles True that my bruddah

  • Comment removed

  • @Babynutria im sorry that you havent been awakened yet

  • @idiotfiles It's dull people music. It is boring in the truest sense of the term. Kudos to them though, they got a shitload of fanboys and all they had to do was phone it in.

  • True that!

  • @idiotfiles Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. Antoine de Saint-Exupery French writer (1900 - 1944)

  • @idiotfiles Well said dude. I mean, I listen to alot of Progressive rock and that's about a musically complex as you can get, but this stuff is just as musically satisfying to my ear and isn't boring at all.

  • @Babynutria hahhaha mate you're a massive cunt. Go listen to pop punk you prick or some other generic shit. I'd fucking love to see your band if your in one? hhaa

  • @Babynutria everything requires skill, practice and rehearsals. Otherwise we would not be able to play it.

  • @Babynutria when i discovered post rock it totally changed my musical outlook, maybe your just too narrow minded to realise the true beauty of this music. go listen to justin beiber or some shit that you thinks good you prick.

  • Comment removed

  • @Babynutria mate you obviously haven't evolved musically enough to understand music such as this! and before you spew some shit about how i should go listen to a jam band, i'm a fan of jambands and progbands, and im a fan of post rock so shut the fuck up! plus the stuff that EiTS write is way more complicated, harmonically, then anything a jam band does since all you do in a jam band is pick a key and a time signature and JAM! improve is piss easy compared to composition!

  • Comment removed

  • @Babynutria "This shit requires no skill", you say. That one sentence really reflects perfectly how you look at music. You think it's some kind of skill or something? It's really sad that you can't enjoy music for what it really is: something you not only hear, but also feel. Personally, I don't like music like heavy metal (other people might and I respect that) where there is much display of skill but I don't feel much... You'll see what we mean someday (I hope so for your sake)

  • @Babynutria It may be "simplistic" and not that "hard to play", but it has soul. Its hard to find that nowadays, I respect that.

  • @Babynutria

You know nothing. Nothing. That is all.

  • @Babynutria Dude. You need to see past the material parts of music (Technique, skill required) and see music for what it really is. Emotion, soul, feeling. You may not like it, and that's fine. I can understand why you wouldn't. Some people just aren't chill enough to listen to such long compositions. But you need to learn how to respect the immense amount of work these guys put into their songs. This takes so much rehearsal to get timing right you wouldn't even understand..

  • @AmbientMW (Had to pause the song so I wouldn't fall asleep during typing) Technique and skill are required in music to convey emotion, soul and feeling. Maybe these guys rehearse until their cabinets slip into R.E.M. The fact is, this band's "music" is slow, boring and pretentious.

  • @Babynutria music is subjective...

  • @Babynutria You seem empty inside :( Poor poor fellow.

  • I bet this has at LEAST 100,000 plays on God's iPod...gotta get inspired somehow yanno?

  • I appreciate this video and music so much! Thank You Explosions In The Sky you're the music in my heat (enjoy this dance) watch?v=XCkeiD_IFhE

  • look up "while the city sleeps", similar big soundscapes!

  • what kind of guitar does Michael James (middle) have?

  • @KidASquared he's using a music man, not sure what kind though.

  • @KidASquared It isn't a Musicman it's an Ibanez unfortunately I'm not sure what model, pretty sure it was discontinued. Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine used one for a while, so did the guy from the offspring i think, he has a signature model based on it you should have a look into that.

Think it might be an Artstar ?

  • @KidASquared An Ibanez Talman, not a Musicman as suggested by p2kudi. Tom Morrello used one for a while.

  • at minute 4:50 I feel likewolf run free to chase ....

    I have chills

  • hearing this song for the first time is one of my favorite memories

  • Vocalist is always a bit off live. :\

  • Goosebumps

  • Can't wait to see them in May, this is going to be different from any gig i've been to before :)

  • Brilliant, just fab. These guys really are making proper real music. Enjoyed the video, thanks. Would have liked to have seen more of the drummer through it though as he should have been taking the stage. Much more interesting to see the drummer play than the guitarists.

  • Awesome, check out their little brother " This Will Destroy You ", also from Texas, won't regret it

  • @gonzalez1987 They're playing locally to me soon, I'm so fucking excited :D

  • life cycles :)

  • Anybody have the lyrics?

  • @colesexington explosions in the sky is a purely instrumental band good sir

  • @MrBUDdha42 I know haha, I was just joking dude! :)

  • explosions in the sky fans should look up "while the city sleeps, title track", similar big and spacy soundscapes.

  • At 4:45 God shows up for a breakdown

  • Hero Shots.

    BANGIN!

  • just beautiful. anyone can give any tips on how to get that heavy distortion sound? i have an x3 live

  • This song reminds me of a civilization rising, and then falling... I honestly get that from this song. Anyone else?

  • BOUGHT TICKETS TO SEE THEM TODAY FUCK YES

  • @themasterplan1213 HOW ARE THEY LIVE?? sorry for the caps but i just want to know if its really worth it seeing them live. thanks.

  • @eclipse720 not seen them yet, it's in May

  • @eclipse720

live? these are mindblowing!..like an intense spiritual experience.....no.1 highlight for me in over 20 years of going to gigs...

  • @eclipse720 Go see them live. You wont regret it! It was an incredible show. They pretty much just say hello and play their set straight though. Its an incredible experience, dont miss out.

  • @eclipse720 I don't mean to oversell it but their live performance is the best thing I've ever seen. When they played Lollapalooza in 2008 it was one of the greatest moments of my life. I've seen them three times and they're always great.

  • this song is like sex, you want them to finish the buildup but at the same time you want them to keep going with it cause you know it will be a more intence explosion!

  • Better than the studio version!

  • Absolutely amazing. It's about time music evolved away from P-Diddy and Brittany Spears!!!!!!!!

  • Love the beginning

  • amazing

  • The people yelling in the video...SHUT UP your ruining the song and want to hear it for what it is. BEAUTIFUL.

  • this is what music is, not like all this justin bieber crap thats playing today. pure perfection is how i would describe explosions in the sky.

  • this album "All I Sudden I Miss Everyone" is simply unbelievable, they are the best

  • Flawless.

  • Comment removed

  • I like how they use 3 guitars... Not very common, though not unheard of.

  • @bluetoaster8822 I think it's cooler how they have 3 guitars AND 1 guy alternates between guitar and bass when needed.

  • one of the best live bands ever!!!!

  • who the fuck in the crowd is talking when this is going on? seriously.

  • 22 people are tone deaf.

  • loopapapers song is fantastic everybody play it ,i love this song

  • marry christmas to all explosions in the sky enjoyer!

i record a christmas song in memory of that... if you wanna listen to it "Loo Paper - operation white christmas "

  • Very good. Really enjoyed watching this and really just taking the time to listen carefully. I just hope that some of the audience would just accept the experience and not just shout every now and again, 'Woooooooo!' ... They just sound like they're at the wrong gig.

  • @Dan070 i hate let down dudes like you. I mosh to shit like this and punch dudes like you in the face. Watch out, the next time you go to a show.

  • @IAmSmokingDank Yeah... A keyboard warrior on YouTube frightens me...

  • @IAmSmokingDank That's retarded, you're an asshole. No one cares, punch dudes like me in the face, and I will punch you right now, a few times harder. I, too, punch dudes like you in the face.

  • orgasm.

  • You guys are beautiful!

  • MOAR DRUMMER! He needs to be up front & center.

  • Thank You Explosions in The Sky! your sound has given me the ability to move in ways I didnt know I could.

My Senior Dance Piece to this song

    watch?v=2jFWUh6zdXE

  • This whole album is a masterpiece

  • people need to shut the fuck up

  • 0:27 is what will be playing when the first cracks of hell appear...

  • Listening to this on an acid trip sinking into the ground with my hands in the air just moaning in awe was an experience I won't forget.

  • @Skate4apples he same thing happened to me except i was on ecstasy

  • the truth is no words

  • This is intense, yes, no doubt, I love it. Nevertheless, saying that music needs no vox at all is a bit...well, i don't know. everytime i listen to helmet and strap it on i doubt that very much. there is more than just one approach to create intensity, in my eyes.

  • 22 guys were Killed by the Explosions

  • @mikeizzyamie who the FUCK are you to tell us what to listen to?!

  • @sandervandijck I'll tell you what to listen to. EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY.

  • @sandervandijck /watch?v=8KtMplTs9A8&feature=related
