In my honest opinion, a young successful Somali youth is one who has his deen, RESPECTS his parents and does well in his studies. In my honest opinion, a young successful Somali youth is one who has his deen, RESPECTS his parents and does well in his studies. Our deen plays a MAJOR role in our lives and without it we are lost, how then can we expect everything to just automatically fall into place? Our youth everywhere are in a dire need of social, spirititual, emotional and intellectual support/direction. I think the all this problems have a start.and the start is HOME.if the kids are out 1-2am,what are their parents doing? arent they suposed to be deciplin them and guide them,arent they suposed to teach them..when the parents wake up nothing will change.I dont blame the youth,I blame thier parents,uncles older brothers and sis! these kids dont have people that understand them and can communicate with them,if they cant find that at home then they will find it in the streets

PERSOANLY i think this is a complete JOKE. i've lives in west london for da past 13 years. i feel absolutley disgusted with the way my generation are acting. They have lost their culture and the morals of their diin!
to think u can kill another human being ALONE is agasint wot as a muslim we belive in. they value more about stauts and reputation then their lives or their religion. i would love to see how they would act if they would be send back home to see the real truth and gang life!

ture, however if they would just see what their parents ran away from, ocne they see the real rash reality that the u.k aint their actual home, and once they realise that this life is neva lasting n they've been taught a thing or two bout their culture i belive they would snap back to reality and might actually effect the way they see life. coz they've been given everythin on a silver plate am not surprised their not greatful

You can be involved in the community. Mentor a Somali youth. Create a football league to get them off the streets. Tutuor them in school. You can do something. Don't give up hope.

Not all our kids are violent except one or two wannabes who copy these so call black gangsters who live in mid-life crisis. I blame neither government nor society because we chose how we wanna live. What we need to concentrate on is the future of the young generation life style 80 % of young Somalis are chewers and smokers. all I would like to say is we are different from these non believers who have rappers as they role models. In Minneapolis, the killings and shootings of young Somalis is done by other young Somalis. every Somali teenager who hangs in Ceder/Riverside area, the 24th and Karmel mall have guns, real guns under their baggy pants. Its really sad to see somalis killing somalis, i thought i left that back home.According to me the blame is to the parents i mean they could do something about their childs actions or influence him in abetter way but they cannt coz they fear their children might report them or even run away if they take that stand ie by forcin them do things right.Not all somalis in london esp in woolwich are that bad but a SMALL part.

this is a sad part of our society, we have fled for thousands of miles just to be worst then we were back home. not only is it happening in UK but in the US too, and the problem we face here is worst b/c our Islamic institutions and our community agency and the people are divided in the ever lasting tribalism that have torn as apart. god forgive us and make our hearts clean so we can go back to the loving people we once were.

I'm sorry Rageeh, but for the vast majority of Somalis, living in the Diaspora is only transitional, and because of that full integration(with its pro's and cons) will never be fully embraced.

I was disagreeing with Rageh. Returning home is not a myth but a hope. And losing hope in ever returning can never be a good thing. In fact the idea of returning should be a positive influence (and is to smarter youths), in hope that one day they can return and make a difference in the rebuilding of our country.
