  • Greatgrandfather used to makes and can sausages and meat. It's what people used to do before refrigeration.

  • i hope this isnt a dumb question, but does that layer of fat on the top act help to as a barrier against germs in the air(vaccum space) that is left in the jar? ive seen wax poured on top of jam preserves before and thought it might act in the same way as the wax. thanks

  • German eats 64 year old lard from a WW2 US Carepaket

    so much for shelflife

    bbc*co*uk/news/uk-16865810

greetings and best wishes from Germany

  • Good job! I just watched a video in canning venison and was wondering about longevity. The way I see it, two year shelf life is good enough if you are adding fresh canned meat year after year.

P.S. You are better off where you are now, because trucking regulations are about to drive me out of business and into homesteading. Good luck to you sir!

  • i dont mind and you dont matter lol thats a good one

  • i herd about you on domsday prepers, but forgot to check out your youtube channel, i but when i searched "how to can meat" i ran acrossed your channel anyway, and its a great channel btw. do you have an how to can video? (i havent had time to look at all of your channel yet) please reply. thanks.

  • Are you the guy on Doomsday Preppers? Good program so far.

  • I know this vid is a little old, but I just found it. When I was in Army boot camp, we ate C rations that dated back to the Korean War for Christ sake. That was 30 years ago. If done right food can lasts a long time.

  • Wow!

  • Add a few drops of colloidal silver and it probably would last indefinately. Good job on video enjoyed watching you on doomsday prepers.

  • Oh shit, that stew made me hungry

  • Very good video. The whining dogs indicate past moments of sheer weakness resulting in generous canine dividends.

Beware, the Global Hawk....it sees canned meat, heheeheeee!

  • thanks buddy, good video

  • I just saw a bunch of really old canned food under my sink the other day. I'm guessing maybe 5 to 15 years old? no idea, I didnt put it there. The cans looked kind of gross on the outside; think the food is edible?

  • @KustomFu throw it away

  • @KustomFu Aluminum cans deteriorate, throw them away w/o hesitation.

  • Are you gonna can your dog?

  • I subscribed to your channel. Can't wait to see how all of this is done. Hell, I got hungry just watching that!

  • Hey saw you on the Telly.

So glad to have found your channel for my video tutorial library!!!

    Keep on postin' "n_n"

  • i was wondering how do u can meat?

  • What kind of preparations do you make for you dogs? Do you just plan to share some of what you are eating or do you know of a way to preserve dog food so that it does not get rancid? Thanks!

  • What about canning it raw? I dont eat cooked meat.

  • @SkallywagMr it is raw when you pt it in the jar the canning process cooks the meat

  • That mind over matter comment was freaking great !

  • Nat.Geo. your famous

  • i bet you could eat a rubber shoe and still make it look nice

  • "That's a glass of dinosaur piss." Classic!

  • Kick__ Ass !!!

  • He ate this in January and uploaded a new video today,2-11-12 . Guess it didn't kill him....looks like he enjoyed it.

  • Dude! You rock! Thanks , I really like your vids! great info.

  • The Egyptians were canning thousands of years ago. I'm not sure if they sterilized, but they covered meat in honey or a heavy vinegar solution. The honey would block out air, making it Anaerobic and what germs like vinegar? Lol ~ Foods and bodies have been found preserved in honey in many Egyptian tombs.

  • @cbond99 I never heard that the egyptians used honey to preserve foods,, but,, I do know that explorers that searched the pyramids have found containers that were sealed perfectly airtight and the honey was still as good as it was when they stored it 2000 years ago,, That is something to consider,,honey is also an excellet anti viral substance,,, if you got athletes foot or herpes or a cold sore,, or whatever,, it makes an excellent topical solution,, a little sticky, but so what

  • My wife has canned deer meat for years. It is awesome. Love the videos. Keep up the good work.

  • looks good, people that bitch and whine is the ones that will die first keep it up cuz some of us thanks you for the info

  • Don't ever stop making videos!

  • Looks like you been eatin good to me!!! Great video!!!

  • Freeze it at 2:18 LMAO....dude, omgosh

  • Canned foods are good for up to 20 years, In some cases even up to 50 years.

  • On a BBC documentary a guy opened and ate an army ration tin of beef from 1969, and guess what....he said it was delicious. look it up trolls lol.

  • That looks so good, even after watching you eat it, I'm still hungry.

    Rock on Cooter!

  • You don't need to eat any more meat, bro.

  • LOL... Love your "Hot Sauce" bottle... :-D !.

  • oh and i see the dog like it too, cried through the whole viedo, give him some more.

  • he dont look like he been eating bad food to me :) lol

  • how did you addord a camera if you are using a jar as a cup..

  • Hey there, I'm 34 and was lucky enough to can with my great granny when I was a girl. They were from the great depression generation and they canned everything, even had a huge, really nice root cellar. I remember many years sitting at the kitchen table snapping beans while helping my granny and mom while they had 2 canners going at the same time :-) I don't understand why people act like food storage and canning is extreme, gross or strange. It's nothing new people!!!

  • Dude thats great.... send me sum LOL yuuummmm

  • Dang that made me hungry watching this..I caught myself licking my lips lmao

  • I just saw the end of the video. DOODEY WATER. Hilarious. Nice!!

  • WOW You make the 2 year result seem like it taste even better than the 1 year. Now I'm convinced. I will give this a try. There are plenty of videos of folks showing how to can meat but not a lot of people showing the end results years later. This is very helpful. Thanks.

  • Meat can be kept without freezing or refrigerator.

  • Nice job.

  • Hey Desarti, if I was you , I would kill myself if I had to deal with that many idiots making dumb ass comments. I hope my Sarcasm came across right...Good job on your canning.

  • Oh...this is good to know

  • Are you prepping your body with food stores as well? I reckon you have a 6 week emergency supply there.

  • I love this guy, he's too funny!

  • killed all the non-living organisms? think about what you just said then you dumbass

  • @GeordieBoi9 known living organisms is what he actually said.

  • @behernan303 not

  • @GeordieBoi9 I believe the gentleman said "known living organisms". Learn how to listen, dumbass.

  • theres no point canning meat becuse its so readily available, fair enough if its a tomato harvest or jam harvest but meat, no

  • your still here but youve put on about fifty pounds

  • Thanks for the video. It is good to see there are still people out there keeping prepared for emergencies, or at the very least wise enough to save good food and money. I learned the basics of hot water canning from my mother and grandma, and I would love to give pressure canning a try.

  • "Mind over Matter" ... I don't mind and You don't matter.... LMAO XD

  • uhh, i could write a 5 page document one the .... "stuff" you just said. uhh ya, the more factual you get the better cause the water that dinosaurs pissed in, which was rare, washed to the ocean an got evaporated and turned into water thousands upon thousands of times and thats just a 3 word sentence you said. i fell ya man and fell were your coming from but sum the shit you say bro, if your reaching out to audiences this large. Be more persist, and factual before you steer people the wrong way

  • so when you cooked it that thick layer of wight inch crap just disappeared?? i believe you, for the most part. but howed you cook it. we wanna see the whole process not just you walk off and come back with a jar of cooked food. sorry for the skepticism but. its needed.

  • You are one Smart Turkey.....I mean Jerky

  • You are one Smart Turkey

  • i love it the dogs are like .....give it up old man!

  • he might be a smart aleik but hes right. My grandfather told me that canned meat will keep like 5 + years. and hes a butcher. He is a dang good butcher too! hes 85 and can butcher an entire side of beef in no time flat. Like a ninja!!!

  • Off all the oddities in the world you makin me hungry, REAL Huungry :D, thats all good no problem ;)

  • Thankyou for the information. I had never thought of canning if the power went out. (epsisode 1) I'm just getting brave enough to try canning meat and beans; even though I've canned simpler things like relish and fruit for decades. Watching folks like you helps to encourage me to keep learning.

  • I have eaten meat that was 5-6 years in the can. Back in Alaska in the 60s we canned in metal cans, today I still have the sealer but can"t get the cans

  • i thought you are supposed to take the top layer off and not eat it is that true ?

  • lol, "it's all mind over matter, I don't mind, you don't matter, the trolls that is...bye TROLLS!

  • Rock on! You the man.

  • Fat ass American will say anything is good. I'm not buying it at all.

  • @Canonpedua12 Fat asses from any country like everything.

  • Good job canning meat. Our electricity went out during Hurricane Irene and we really were not prepared except for freezing 2 liter coke bottles filled with water

in our freezer the night before to keep the freezer/fridge cold and food from spoiling.

My grandma canned everything when we were kids and we were glad to have canned food.

  • Hey dsarti! Just gettin into canning and I am wondering what kind of adjustments I would want to make in pressure/time for my altitude? I am in CO (7000ft currently) and I intend to move to an even higher elevation eventually. Any suggestions?

  • SOMEDAY I WANT TO BE AS BIG AS YOU;_; SOMEDAY

  • mk. point taken about canning being effective. appreciate the video for that info on this topic. but i cannot sit here and watch this guy eat anymore. chew with your fucking mouth closed and quit making those smacking sounds you disgusting tubb! blahhhhhhh

  • Some form of amphibious life made a sound at 1:02, or he farted.

  • very nice

  • ok, I'm "fessin up" We are still eating canned deer meat that is over 10 yrs old and IT IS DELICIOUS! and yes, we are all fine.

  • legendary.....

  • Hear to tell you were country folks and have been canning and eating such for generations.

My point to all reading this hes right I have eaten pickles that were canned 5 years prior and we so poor we take the bands off after canning and use them on next batch only using new lids each time.

only food poisining we ever get is from eating at restraunts.

  • @tennesseecoin

"only food poisining we ever get is from eating at restraunts."

    You SAID it!!! lol...How true!

  • @makman1962 your telling me! I got food poisoning from a Pizza Hut December 2010 and I thought I was going to die. That was the worst sick I have ever been and my whole life.

  • Great video..veggie canners here.....want to try this though.....what kind / cut of meat did you use? Thanks for sharing.

    Peace

  • Great stuff. I enjoy your videos.

My dad used to garden and can all the time, wished I had learned all that from him when I could.

He canned a lot of fish to make fish patties with, they were great, I miss all that now.

    Keep up the good videos.

  • Comment removed

  • Do you have a "how to" video on this? I couldn't find it on your page.

  • Great Video, I have canned for years but never meat.. Thank you

  • You should change your name to Chuck Roast.

  • I found these intresting. How long did you keep it in the preasure cooker, For meat is this longer then spinish or some other vegatable. I sort of wish you had made something out of it rether then eat it from a jar but I guess that proves to the doubters that you are eating it.

  • You are so damn awesome!!!I can meats all the time and have had them last 5 years and was just as good as the day it was canned!Keep these awesome videos coming cause I absolutely love em!

  • You said in your one year video you only pressure cooked the meat for 45 minutes. Does that go for cooked meats too? I'm hearing on another site that you have to cook pints for 75 minutes and quarts for 90. Is this true? Im hoping you are right and it works for both cooked and uncooked, or i have a lot of food to throw out!

  • You have been trying to wake folks up for quite a while and I think they are starting to take a 2nd look at the real world.

    Thank you very much.

  • You have been trying to wake folks up for quite a while and I think they are starting to take a 2nd look at the real world.

    Thank youvery much

  • how did u warm it up?in boiling water?

  • Love it, have been canning meat along time. Last winter began canning stew, after the first load I decided to not put potato in, just cook at last min. before serving. When I make stew to can I make a lg. pot of gravy, then stuff the jars 1/2 full of raw meat and put any vegi in, layered, and fill up with gravey then can it. Excellent and great for the dinners i'm to tired to cook.. Great job, keep it up, very informative. Thank you for spending your time to help us!

  • Keep on canning! We need to see more canning videos. I love to can.

  • I agree with you, those trolls just either don't know or are ignorant - please don't waste time on them.

I think it's great, I am new in caning/preserving, but will get really into it this year.

I appreciate your testing videos, great stuff, and yeah, I absolutely take your words on ht meat's age, also, I can see the dates you post - so yeah, I definitely believe you, and will take your advice, and start doing the same.

  • Loved the vid dude, thought it was funny you were drinking water from a jar, keep on caning.

  • Now i have to go stock my desk with hot sauce and other condaments!

    Love the videos.

  • Oh my Gods you are so awesome. I wish more people knew the practical side of canning instead of the ridiculously overcomplicated book knowledge out there. What would you suggest for people who don't have any pressure canning pots, etc.--just pots and bottles? I've seen an italian gramma cut out lots of steps and be just fine.

  • that saved my family life one day because one time our power went off and we didnt have it for 4 days and well that is what we ate we warmed it up on the fire it really didnt need to be warmed up but ya hahaha no we had meet and bread and canned gravy it was awsome! keep up the good work bud!

  • I boil a whole chicken, then pick the meat off the bones so I don't miss any good bits. I can it in pint jars filling with broth from the pot(fat drained off). It's a very lean chicken blend, good for stews, tacos, casseroles, sandwiches, dumplings, alfredo, etc. My oldest is from 11/23/09. I buy a chicken for .$89/lb and get six pints. For $3.50 I get the equivalent of six cans of storebought chicken which costs around $12 or more. So Worth it. Kudos Hillbilly! Thanks for all the videos!

  • I have caned meats for 50 years as long as you do it right and use a pressure canner and good prosesing time will be fine

  • Thanks dude - a very informative video - people should take note of your wise words.

  • Can you use other spices such as oregano, pepper, ect. ???

  • i have done bear meat like that and it turned out good im going to try it with oinon supe mix

  • Thanks for pointing out you pressure canned it. Don't try to can Meat by hot water bath.

  • your meat looks delicious

  • Anyone drinking city water is in fact drinking toilet water, over and over and over again. The Amish have been canning meat for generations and their lifestyle is in the process of becoming popular once again, but only to those who know how to feed themselves. A sad and deserving reality for the rest.

  • @mediasmoker what water do you drink

  • @18wheeler76 Underground spring water... from a 137' deep well, filtered through sand and bed rock.

  • Hahahaha dinosaur piss lol

  • In a SHTF situation I woldnt mind eating that at all. Nice vid Dave, keep em coming

  • Very kewl... Glad to know the results!! Thanks so much neighbor! :o)

  • 6:27 i almost choked laughing at that one hahaha!

    nice video as always

  • You need to stay off the meat, and go on a diet. All your preparations for disaster wont work with you in a hospital getting a bypass.

  • Come on man, give that dog a taste! The poor thing is begging for some.

  • You are a graveyard, Sir. Do i need to say more?

  • I just pressure canned my first 6 cans of roast last night. One lid did not seal and I ate it . Really great flavor and tender. So easy to do, and good way to buy large discounted amounts of meat and not waste any. Your dog sounds like he is crying for a bite of the meat. can't blame him, its gooood. Thanks for the excellent tips.

  • hahhahhahaha.. I love smart Billy boysOOOOooooowee, doo-doo Water!! hahahahah

you are too much fun to watch. (teaching city girls how to can) thank you!

  • for the first time.. i'm glad to see a commercial on a you tube video.. congratz

  • my G-ma use to can deer meat all the time. And I thought it was the best ever. And I love your videos.I agree with 99.9% of what you say.Would like to chat with you sometime.

  • Your videos are great. My boyfriend mentioned wanting us to can meat and your videos really make me feel like it's something I could do! Is there any meat you can't can? Thanks!

  • I've done chicken, meatballs, meatsauce, chicken livers, pork shoulder, chuck, sirloin, brisket, ham, sausage, and hot dogs. DO NOT TRY SMOKED HAM-the smoke flavor becomes distasteful. Hot dogs turn into mush. Chicken livers tend to crumble after 3 years. The chicken is AWESOME.

  • LOL!!! was that Mold on the bottom of the lid? hahaha! Botulism/food poisoning coming right up! lmao!! ; "NO You all aren't getting ANY!" hahaha! -- All in all... Thanks for posting this stuff! Good Vids! :-)

  • I've been canning Ground Beef for a couple years now and I also did some Chicken. The GB came out great. I haven't tried the chicken yet, but it's been about a year so I'm gonna give it a shot. And you are so right. Our grandparents canned everything during the Depression. We have Amish neighbors and I asked them about it. They have been canning meat for years. I wish our parents had thought more about teaching these skills to us instead of having to learn it on the internet

  • youre awesome! thanks for posting this! i am going to buy a pressure canner and start canning meat. jeez! why the hell do i have to go learn this??? it should have been a household skill in my generation that my Mom taught me!!

my great grandparents did this... all our ancestors knew, back in the depression. WHY have we lost the skills to be self-sustainable???

  • @ShinySilverBunny I have wondered that exact same thing!

  • @moonchildsoaps i just got an All-American Pressure Canner, MADE IN WISCONSIN! its farmer's market time and i've gots to get me on to my cannin' project! hee hee!

  • @ShinySilverBunny amazon.com sells all the ball canning books, includes meat.

  • Thank you very much for your excellent videos!!!

  • can you do a video on how to can meat, im just curious, though im a prepper i am ignorant on the topic of canning meat...

  • I like you hehe, you tell it like it is :) what kind of meat was that anyways? Just watched your video for ground beef, gotta try it :) we have chicken thighs in the canner right now :) thanks so much for your videos

  • More good info. Keep up the good work!

  • Right on, gonna give this a shot. Thanks for taking the time 2 make this.

  • just subscribed to your page and what excited to see your from the great state of tennessee haha. I'm on the east end (Knoxville area) but glad to see my fellow tennesseean's being prepared as we always have been.I was wondering if you could give me a bit more insight on how you canned the meat I've done fruits before but haven't done meats And was very interested in trying to can some deer meat I have from this past season. So if you get time just let me know thanks and best regards,Alex

  • You sir are a genius! Canned foods are the best

  • I dont know if this has been asked yet but did you add any spices when you canned it, btw keep up the good work!!

  • "I don't mind and you don't matter. Bye trolls" I love an attitude like that. Good video.

  • Nice presentation Sir.

  • Looks damn good!!! i think ill try it.Good video

  • Very awesome my friend.

Thank you for this, some people will never reach outside what they are told is impossible and live in a bubble from truths.

I see you as trying to save lives, should any horror take place over your own country and their no longer is a Safeway or superstore for your groceries or you just want to save for a long period.

Thank you for this knowledge, I will box it away in the brain storage should the need arise.

Some of my family is on a farm outside Edmonton, Alberta.

  • You tell em, dsarti. Haters make me sick, they are born to raise hell, that's it raise hell.

  • Don't worry out those Yankees! My Grand Mother did this shit for as long as I can remember. I'm tring to teach my friends how to can using Youtube. I have some good how to videos on here if you guys want to check it out.

Your doing a great job keep it up!

  • @jamesryanphoto Since when are we Yankees against canning!? Get your facts straight before you babble...a lot of Yankees can or are interested in canning!

  • @PauletteS1972 I guess you have to be following what's going on this thread. I don't have to explain to you.

  • @jamesryanphoto What does following this thread having anything to do with your acting like us yankees are against canning!? As I said, learn your facts before you babble. I'm sure I can find many southerners who are against it!? In fact how do you know the people who are negatively posting aren't from the south? You don't! I never asked you to explain..I said get your facts straight before you babble!

  • great video i definitely wanna learn how to can meat! i got a question if anyone knows. What part of the cow is chuck? i eat Chuck burger patties all the time but iv never heard of check roast.

  • @DixiePrepper Chuck is shoulder. I didn't know myself until I typed "butchering diagram, cow" into google to answer your question. Pretty simple and you can do it yourself.

  • @buckstarchaser Thank you sir!! i appreciate it

  • hey awsome video, i was wondering if canned meat will last on a camping trip in up to 100 degree weather, thank you in advance

  • You sir fking RULE!

  • When I was un the US Army doing KP duty in boot camp, a dude in a US Army car would show up with canned meat from the 60s in the trunk to give to our Chow Hall, and this was in 1998. Alot of people just dont read or know it can be canned for long periods of time..

  • nice little snack for your fat ass

  • @arshia2008

    nice stupid ass comment, cretin

  • @Zomgcake1 Why thank you, he deserves it too, just watch his other his videos.

  • @arshia2008

i have watched his other video's so elaborate please? things such as?

  • @Zomgcake1 Why thank you, he deserves it too, just watch his other videos.

  • Looks good to me. I picked up canning about 2 years ago, and I would eat that.

There are more than enough things online to tell you how to can things to keep you from getting sick.

    This process isnt new ;-)

    Keep up the good work

  • @shootcentermass Yes you can!

You can make a beef stew or soup chicken soups etc.

Poke around on youtube or google some recipes.

I've canned meat sauce, beef tips in gravy and it comes out great.

  • Did you use any preservatives? I don't mean just salt, but synthetic ones?

  • @h4xx0rrx He said just salt for flavor. There is no need for preservatives when canning. The food is heat sterilized in the sealed jar. There's nothing left to preserve it against. The canned stuff you get in the store may have extra preservatives but that's for superfluous things like color. Of course that messes up the flavor.

  • That's how my wife and I can venison. It'll last and last and last. Best thing about canned meat, as he said, it's cooked when you
