Cornwall was a geologically excellent place to mine, the majority of the area consisted of extremely hard granite which was in the majority self supporting.Where falls happened it was usually due to miners overhand stoping and the piling of waste on top of the wooden stope supports as they mined upward. The wooden props occasionally gave way blocking the entrance/exit to the mine as the adit ran underneath the stopes.Other deaths were caused by inexperienced miners making disaterous mistakes.
