Actually you are just being a biased avalanche fan. Considering the numbers dictate that Tretiak, Hasek and Brodeur were all better than Roy.
Don't get me wrong. Roy was a good goalie. But the best ever is laughable.
Wings embarrassed Roy when he was in Montreal, and in 2002, thanks to Roy being in net (yes!), we won the Cup. If a better goalie were in net, we may not have won. We were down 3 games to 2--then Roy raised his glove in the air and puck was in the net. idiot
@duffy31311 I love how you avoid using any career examples and you just use one time examples like ONE GOAL allowed in ONE GAME. The fact of the matter is Roy played longer than Hasek, played in the NHL unlike Tretiak, and played for a run and gun team rather than a trap style team like Brodeur.
He also played in the toughest era for a goaltender (Gretzky's prime) with smaller pads, and more goal scoring. No goaltender has more hardware, and no goaltender did better in the 80's then Roy.
oh, I forgot the time Roy came out of net when he shouldnt have, and like a moron passed to the Dallas player in the WCF's game 7 to end the series and colorado's hopes. Ignorant guy. dumb. came out of net when he shouldnt have all the time.
@duffy31311 Once again, listing single moments instead of career milestone's, proving that you have nothing substantial to back up your argument. Every goalie makes mistakes. Patrick being as good as he was, and having so much presence under the spotlight, of course it's easier to notice them over other goalies.
@duffy31311 And Brodeur hasn't? Hasek hasn't? Fucking Tretiak hasn't? Look at those two shitty goals Tim Thomas let in during the finals. Does it make him a bad goalie and does it make Luongo better? If you were a Habs fan you'd probably think Luongo was the shit and that Thomas is awful.
You probably never have even seen Roy play live and you probably are a twelve year-old feeding off old rivalries by watching Youtube videos and complaining about the best players in history.
I never said Roy wasnt a very good goalie. he obviously was. when he was in his prime, there was nobody else you wanted to guard your net. Roy was a top 20 goalie of all time, even. no doubt.
@duffy31311 Stop trying to concede. You know he was better than fucking Tretiak who never played in the NHL - and Brodeur who played for a trap style team - and Hasek didn't play a game in the 80's NHL.
I dont know how you can argue that Roy was better than Tretiak. Over here we never really had a lot of exposure to Tretiak. He was the best player in Europe. It's not even close. I dont know why you are getting upset--I told you Roy was a very good goalie.
@duffy31311 Because there's no evidence to Tretiak being better expect childish evaluations. I bet you aren't a day over twenty and the only reason why you know his name is because of Disney's Miracle. The only evidence of him being an excellent goaltender was in international competitions.
The only information retained was three seasons in CSKA, nothing else besides petty international numbers. If you can provide reasoning as to why he's better than Roy, feel free. They don't have to be stats.
It's not just Tretiak that was better than Roy. Brodeur was on straight numbers, and of course Hasek won several Veznas and Roy didnt. Roy was the most overrated goalie in the history of the NHL. Brodeur is the NHL's all-time leader in regular season wins, shutouts, and games played. Roy isn't.
@duffy31311 Martin Brodeur's numbers were increased by something called "inflation". Since he came into the league in 91, Brodeur has been blessed with some of the best defensemen fronting him. Roy had Bourqie, Footer, and Blake, but never had ANY defensemen at the level of Scott Stevens. Brodeur took advantage of his defensive trap style team, and many experts have referenced this. It's very similar to Pekka Rinne for Nashville. As for Hasek, I still think Brodeur is better than him. -300 GP.
ok now you are sounding like the biggest moron on you tube. Brodeur has better numbers than Roy--everybody knows it. Roy is definitely in the top 20 of all time goalies, and that is quite an achievement for him. The defense Roy had in front of him in colorado was as good as anyone. stop making excuses for Roy's poor play, dumbass ! Roy came out of net in Dallas and got embarrassed. then in 2002 he literally handed the cup to Detroit. Thank you Patrick you little fucking bitch!
@duffy31311 Your comments scream "I'm thirteen and I started watching hockey after the lockout. Fuck Patrick Roy, he's in the top 300 of goaltenders because he totally sucks worse than any goalie ever because Brodeur was the best player ever".
Brodeur played for a trap defense. Hasek never played in the 80's. Tretiak never played in the NHL. Did you get all that? Because I find myself repeating these facts over and over an I'm not sure if you have read them. Brodeur played for a trap defense.
I don't know why you are getting so upset. I would be happy to admit that Roy is in the top 20 goalies of all time. That is an incredible achievement. You act like it isnt.
I read your ""facts"". You dont make sense because I continually trump your statements with facts and trophys that better goaltenders have achieved. But again, be happy that Roy is a top 20 goaltender. It is something to be proud of. and Roy changed the butterfly technique too. very good goalie.
@duffy31311 Roy is AT LEAST top 3, if not the best goaltender of all-time. By the time Brodeur won his first Cup in 1995, Roy had already won two. Roy's initial achievements came in an era when goaltenders were challenged more. Brodeur's won a bunch of games in the era when ties no longer existed. Roy might have sucked in shootouts but all his wins were earned in a less watered down era. Roy holds nearly all the playoff records and has one more cup and three Conn Smythe's, three more than Martin
@duffy31311 are you retarded? or just a maple queef fan? roy is the best of all time. brodeur is just a wanna be, and holds the records cause his old ass never retires, he's like brett favre. 3 conn smyths, 4 stanley cup rings (the only reason the teams made it was because of him) and 3 vezina's. he pioneered modern goaltending techniques can perform a 60 save win in game 3 of the 2nd round of the playoffs moments after coming off the IV with an inflammed apendix. to name a few memorable moments
I never said roy wasnt a top 10 goalie of all time. he was very good. but the best? ha ha ha. no way. tretiak, brodeur, etc. much better. actually roy could be the most overrated goalie in the history of the game. get off roy's cock.
@duffy31311 umm have you seen brodeur lately? he sucks asshole. his best days are behind him and he still stood in roy's shadow. i'm not "on roy's cock" as you say, just stating the facts. even if you have different opinions on who was best, i mean everybody has their own goalie THEY think was best, but one thing is certain: patrick was one of the best of all time.
roy came out of net when shouldnt have against dallas in 99 wcf's. gave game away. was cocky and let wings knock puck in net. glove in air, puck in net.
the best of all time doesnt do that shit. roy was laughed at by the league. good goalie though.
Reading these comments is annoying. You could sit here and argue until the end of time who was the best goalie. There's more good goalies out there besides Roy, Hasek, and Brodeur.
@ClassicRockMan95 Well that's enough said to present his Habs moment... Because if Habs are nothing without Roy that's mean Roy knew great moments with habs who won 2 stanley cup with Patrick...
As a Habs fan i dont think he was the greatest goaltender off all time. A few reasons why:
1.Hes was never on a bad team nor was he part of a dynasty.
2.Lost to many crucial game 7's againts weak teams or just had a rare bad game.
3.From 1992 to 2002 he was neither a first N.H.L or allstar or second believe it or not.
Lastly I'd like to see who many call him the greatest goalie of all time picked for the best-on-best international tournaments in his prime. They didnt pick him though.
@nevertweet015 Actually no im just sharing my opinion and facts to people on some things they dont know. Why would i be bitter when he was a big part of the those cup wins in 86 and 93.Had it not been for Mario Tremblay and his awful coaching by keeping him in net when they played Detroit and lost 11-1 back in 95 he would of probly played a few more years in Montreal, its because of him he left and demanded the trade.Terry Sawchuk has him beat, not by much though, IMO.
@nevertweet015 Well of course its not his fault however had he played for Tor,Van or harford would he play the same?.How is he considerd the greatest when hes only played 17 seasons when other great goaile's played before him like Sawchuck, Plante, Gump Worsley and the list goes on.As for his cups in 10 years yeah thats pretty good Sawchuck did it less then 5 years, 0.62 average in 1952 playoffs all time record for a goalie oh yeah and he didnt wear helment either.Orignal six era was tuff.
@boskey10 ya but in the original six their was only six....so the law of averages is much higher to win a cup plus sawchuk being the best goalie of the old age increases those averages even more (no helmet ya thats nuts but sawchuks lack of fear helped him get over that hurdle), I'm ok with calling this argument a draw because neither of us is going to admit our guy isn't the greatest! does that work for you?
Didn't the Avalanche used to be named the Noridiques before they left Canada for Colorado? I'm pretty sure Roy was a fan of the Nordiques growing up, which may have been why he went to colorado?
I go on a Hasek video and see comments describing him as the best of all-time then i come to see a video of the real best goalie of all-time and all you see are people bitching at eachother.
@CONTRAHABS That's because Hasek is the best of all time. Look at the record books. Hasek owns almost every goaltending category. He has 3 times more silverware than any goalie in history. He has two cups, one of which he set records in. He owned Roy when it came to important games. Remember 98 olympics and 2002 playoffs? Roy is an amazing goalie and probably second best of all time, but Hasek is Bar none the best goalie in history. He just stopped pucks more than any other goalie.
@hardworker0707 Ok but the same goes for Mario Lemieux then. Lemieux had a higher ppg average than Gretzky and played a lot less games and played a lot of them in horrible shape because of back problems and cancer. If you disagree with me then i will disagree with you. I agree with you that Roy is second but second to Brodeur. Brodeur has 3 cups, most wins and soon most shutouts if you go by the record book. If you are a huge fan of Hasek you will never agree with me.
@CONTRAHABS Clearly you are a Roy fanboy with the name CONTRAHABS so using logic and numbers, facts and statistics is almost pointless with you. Brodeur. Hasek's numbers are far greater than any goalie in history. HISTORY. Nobody has a better save percentage, GAA, and VEZINAS in modern hockey. Brodeur faced 15-20 shots a night on average and he could barely string together a decent save percentage while hasek had 40+ a night. You can be delusional all you want but Hasek's numbers are the best.
@CONTRAHABS Sorry, but Brodeur isn't in the same league as Roy. Brodeur has 3 cups, but was always behind one of the best defenses in the league. He has NEVER won the Conn Smythe trophy (playoff mvp) whereas Roy has won it 3 times. Brodeur has the record for the most all time wins, which is nice, but with all his success, at his current averages, he would have to play for another 16 years or so to reach the number of PLAYOFF wins Roy has. Add to that Roy's 4 cups, and he's clearly superior.
@Sizzmaster6985 That's precisely the point!!! Even on a team with the power of Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Rob Blake, etc etc, he was STILL voted as the teams most valuable player in the playoffs THREE times!
@bookworm3283 You forget an important point about Brodeur. He has the most wins but in reality if you exclude wins via shootout then it actually took him until this season to break Roy's record. Not saying Marty isn't a stellar goalie but he doesn't hold a candle to #33.
@CONTRAHABS This is because Av's fans don't Troll Red Wing's vids. Red Wing's fans Troll Av's vids. Along with everything else because they think they're so 1337
@Hurley474 You're the dumb ass who can't think two moves ahead. I spelled my user name the way I did on purpose because "luckymandaniel" was already taken, pussy face. And spelling is not a pointless skill. Accurate spelling is taught in every education system in around the world. Now go chew on an English book before I beat you over the head with one, you little girl. You rely on spell check because you're an idiot. You scoff at education because you're a fool. Fuck you, pussy face!!!!
since when has this become a Canada vs USA fight? who cares? it doesnt matter if you play for a team in Canada or a team in the USA, the NHL has 24 teams in the USA and only 6 in Canada last time I checked, so its clearly a US company. Roy doesnt look at this as a USA vs Canada issue. He looks at it with a "i want to win attitude" and that is all that matters. its not like he decided to not play for team Canada in the olympics and played for team USA instead, its not about countries.
@Hurley474 It's just funny that you tried to correct me for mis-spelling Bourque's name when you spelled apparently & caliber wrong, you didn't put a space between as & well, & you capitalized "Classy" in the wrong context. You tried to correct me but you were worse. Much like how Roy thought he had the puck & put his glove up, when he really didn't & Brendan Shanahan poked it in lol. I can go inside the stats, outside that stats & inside both your minds to prove you each have pussies for faces
@Hurley474 Me spelling Bourque wrong is better than you spelling apparently AND caliber wrong. Plus you made several other mistakes like forgetting to put a space between "as" & "well" and you capitalized "Classy" in the wrong context. Terry Sawchuk, Martin Brodeur and Dominic Hasek are all better and they didn't act like jackasses. Obviously you're sensitive because I'm making fun of the dick you suck, you faggot. I'd be glad to rip the living shit out of you in every way. BITCH-start sucking!
@luckeymanndaniel why must you hate on legends? because there better then you? because there more successful then you? because you envy them? ... you sir are the "douchebag" that is all.
@anarchyrules785 What is all is that you and Patrice Roy and Jesus are all very gay. You can't even spell correctly, retard. A) roy was terrible in Montreal when he had no team and he was only good when he had Blake, Borque, Deadmarsh, Sakic, Forsberg, Kamensky, Ozolinsh, etc. in front of him. Plus roy was a crybaby, much like cindy. I grew up respecting guys like Yzerman and Mario Lemieux who played through enormous amounts of pain and overcame it.
@danjul666 Sorry man. There's no doubting Brodeur's skill, but he has a lot of awards and accomplishments to go before he's on Patrick's level. He may have the all time wins record, but when it really counts (in the playoffs) he is NOWHERE near Patrick. Patrick comes in at a staggering 151 playoff wins with Brodeur having 99 so far. Brodeur's career is almost over having started almost 20 years ago. He won't catch up with Patricks playoff records.
@bookworm3283 You do realize that you only mentioned one of Roy's playoff records. Roy's shutouts, for example, in the playoffs are 23, which Brodeur is tied with. And Brodeur also had 8 shutouts in one postseason performance, the most of any goaltender, as well as the most shutouts in the cup finals (3), and being the only goaltender to put up 3 shutouts in two different playoff series. He also has the best post season GAA of all time. So...What records are we talking about?
@IndianXXXIX All good points. But again, those records all have to do with shutouts. The records that I am speaking are the most important records of all. Winning. Having shutouts in 50% of all the games you ever play mean nothing if you don't pull out a win in the rest of them.
@bookworm3283 With exception of the GAA, that is correct, they are all shutout records. But what we're talking about are goalies, not the team. It is the team's responsibility to win, it is the goalie's to stop pucks. Brodeur's shutouts and GAA are exactly that, stopping pucks, as the only part they can truly control. They other team can't score, and they can't win. The Devils lack of winning isn't Brodeur's fault, and certainly doesn't say anything about his skill as a goalie.
@IndianXXXIX Actually, GAA has a huge amount to do with the number of pucks the goalie faced as well. Go look at the number of shots on goal each goalie faced in the playoffs. Brodeur had an outstanding team in front of him that didn't let a lot of looks at the goal. Anyone can have a low GAA and a high number of shutouts if they don't face any shots.
@bookworm3283 Brodeur did have a good DEFENSIVE team in front of him, but when it comes to getting the win, you cannot always rely on timely goals. I would agree that GAA has a lot to do with the number of pucks a goalie faces. But to say that Brodeur didn't face shots and didn't have to make ridiculous saves is just not accurate. His % has always been stellar, and if you saw any of the playoff games, he certainly had to work for every shutout he had. Once again though, the goalie cant score.
@IndianXXXIX No one is doubting his skill as a goalie, but you can't rely on GAA and shutout records to determine the overall quality of a goalie as having an outstanding defensive team in front of him means he'll get a LOT more of those than he otherwise would have. You should need nothing more than to look at how many Conn Smythe Trophies (Playoff MVP) each has won in their career. Patrick 3 - 0 Martin. He practically carried teams to the cup on more than one occasion.
@IndianXXXIX Just as a side note, Patrick is the ONLY player to ever win the Conn Smythe trophy 3 times, not even the great Wayne Gretzky accomplished that. There also isn't a single active player in the league who even has 2 to their name.
@bookworm3283 Hasek's two Hart Trophies back to back is a bigger accomplishment than that by far. Only one other goalie has a Hart Trophy. No one in HISTORY has two especially back to back.
@hardworker0707 Except Ovechkin, Gretzky (8 times in a row), Lafleur, Clarke, Orr, Mikita, Hull, Howe (back to back twice), Shore, and Morenz. Yeah, no one in history has ever had 2 Hart Trophies back to back.... except those guys. If you were talking about just goalies, good for him.... except he only has one cup to his name where Roy has 4. Add that to the fact that the years he won the Hart, he was on a marginal team at best, making the accomplishment null. I take cup of Hart any day.
@bookworm3283 If you wear some glasses you might be able to read that I said Goalie, not Player. Him being on a marginal team at best makes the accomplishment of winning the award back to back even BIGGER lol. That just proves he really did everything for that team. I don't understand your logic?
@hardworker0707 If YOU wear some glasses, you spoke of goalies in the previous sentence, and then said that no one in history had ever accomplished the feat. You made no effort to maintain that you were still speaking of goalies. Ok, I'll try some simple logic for you. If you have a team of 40% players, and the goalie is a 70% player, he stands 30 points above the rest of his team. Compare that to a team of 80% players with a goalie at 90% which puts him 10 points above. (Cont)
@hardworker0707 So, even though the team that was superior had a goalie who was far better, he doesn't shine as much to his teammates as the decent goalie does to his team of mediocrity. If you have a team of absolute garbage, any player who brings anything solid to the team would be in the running as the most important person to his team for the trophy. It's the difference of the players skill to the average skill of his teammates. Hopefully you are smart enough to understand that.
I take Cup over Hart any day.
@Hurley474 i have no idea what your counter argument was but Hart Trophy > Stanley cup, for individual skill, which Hasek clearly has more of given by the awards. He won those harts on very very bad buffalo teams.
@Hurley474 winning gold with Czech republic > cup with borque sacik forsberg blake who else hmm? hejduk (however spelled)
and his cups with Montreal lol.
Hasek stats at NHL level are greater then roys, Hart trohys take a shit on Roy, stanly cup is team win, hart is solo. you have no counter gtfo of here. (it was x1000 harder to get a starting goalie job as a european back then. Hasek first euro starting goalie to win Stanely cup)
just googled, Roy never won a hart trophy lol owned.
Do you really want me to make fun of your countless grammar mistakes? Brodeur's career isnt over yet...he may not be the goalie he used to be but he's still a decent goalie.
in my view patrick roy could still play a few games in the nhl, i mean look at curtis joesph, he is old and he still plays i think, so patrick wouldnt be a bad back up netminder, and he could have a few practice games and see how he goes
Oh My God patrick roy is the best goalie in the world too bad he retired the guy was born on october 5th like me but in the 60s im 1993 i will always remember the legendary player.
you just dont get it bob faggot, roy QUIT on the orginization, gretzky was TRADED for financial reasons gretzky never skated off the ice acting like a baby demanding a trade#! financial rewards for edmonton #2 traded to kings to jump start hockey on west coast to stabilize the future for teams like san jose etc,get your facts straight before you comment back ROY QUIT+++++ GRETZKY TRADED?
hey bob faggott666 why dont you go away like this fat bastard roy did, except it he is #2 behind marty he will always be #2 except it faggott, he was a quality goaltender but he is #2,yes they cheered for him,but deep down there thinking this motherfucker quit on us because he was embarressed, dont buy it never will HE QUIT ON THE PEOPLE OF MONTREAL.
actually, the montreal fans quit on him. What kind of fans boo their star goalie because he is having a bad night? What kind of a coach keeps a goalie in on his worst night of his career for 6+ goals in less than 2 periods?
Stats don't mean much if you can't succeed in clutch situations. Roy > Brodeur in clutch moments always. The last time I remember winning playoff games lead to the cup, not season games. No goalie has done what Roy accomplished. Look at Luongo while he was in Florida.
this man revolutionized hockey. Marty Broduer is a product of his revolution. and waay over rated. id be going to the hall of fame also if i faced like 10 shots a night for 30 yrs with the NJ defense. i was see marty be in like ryan millers shoes right now and see if hes still great. bull shit. Roy For LIfe
just another brain washed toad, how much more proof do you need,he skated off the ice and never played another game for montreal, he asked for a trade from the canadiens and he got it,if thats not quitting on montreal and the people of canada, then what the fuck is,and on top of it you welcome him back like nothing happened, this asshole should of been banned from canada,or shot dead at the fucken border, wake the fuck up people.
if the canadians hate him so much, then why was he greeted with THUNDEROUS applause when he came for the 100 year anniversary game? STANDING ovation? yeah, they hate him lol
not braindead yet but opening there eyes, and saying we cheered for this douchebag, but wait a minute after the cheering is over, you think about it this fat fucker did quit,he did shit on us and go to the avalanche, open your eyes shitstain patrick is laughing at canada an you in pennsulvania.ha ha ha
then i guess wayne gretzky is laughing at canada too...... cause HE QUIT.
but i guess it doesn't matter since EVERY SINGLE CITIZEN OF CANADA IS A MONTREAL FAN. there wasn't anybody at the edmonton games..... so i guess gretzky didn't have anybody to betray, right?
but wait, im sure you have something VERY contradicting to everything you've been saying to excuse gretzky for being traded.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
patrick roy once again comes up #2 behind marty,i love it,i cant stand roy he is a quitter,he said fuck you to the people of canada, you dont have to agree with me but prove me wrong on being a quitter.
growing up, i wanted to be a goalie because of this player. patrick roy was astounding... anybody who says that his pads were bigger than others of the time don't know what they're talking about. the guy had an amazing glove, and was a game changer all on his own. the man is an NHL legend, and probably the best goalie ever

Tretiak is the best ever. Brodeur is even better than Roy. Roy isn't really in the top 5. Hasek was better. etc. Roy is a joke.
duffy31311 7 months ago
@duffy31311 Tretiak was good but played only for the U.S.S.R. and has no criteria to go by in terms of stats.
Broduer played for a defensively strapped team with Scott Stevens and Niedermayer completely locking up his numbers.
Hasek is the only serious comparison, but he played far less games, making him Lemieux in the Gretzky vs. Lemieux argument.
You're just being a biased Red Wings fan. It's no wonder why you think he's terrible. I wonder how many cups the Wings lost because of him.
ebtricks 7 months ago
@ebtricks
We were down 3 games to 2--then Roy raised his glove in the air and puck was in the net. idiot
duffy31311 7 months ago
@duffy31311 I love how you avoid using any career examples and you just use one time examples like ONE GOAL allowed in ONE GAME. The fact of the matter is Roy played longer than Hasek, played in the NHL unlike Tretiak, and played for a run and gun team rather than a trap style team like Brodeur.

@duffy31311 Once again, listing single moments instead of career milestone's, proving that you have nothing substantial to back up your argument. Every goalie makes mistakes. Patrick being as good as he was, and having so much presence under the spotlight, of course it's easier to notice them over other goalies.
ebtricks 7 months ago
@ebtricks
yeah, add up several single moments and let me tell you--Roy blew a ton of games. He was an embarrassment.
duffy31311 7 months ago
@duffy31311 And Brodeur hasn't? Hasek hasn't? Fucking Tretiak hasn't? Look at those two shitty goals Tim Thomas let in during the finals. Does it make him a bad goalie and does it make Luongo better? If you were a Habs fan you'd probably think Luongo was the shit and that Thomas is awful.
You probably never have even seen Roy play live and you probably are a twelve year-old feeding off old rivalries by watching Youtube videos and complaining about the best players in history.

They don't have to be stats.
ebtricks 7 months ago
@ebtricks
Roy isn't.
Nuff said.
duffy31311 7 months ago
@duffy31311 Martin Brodeur's numbers were increased by something called "inflation". Since he came into the league in 91, Brodeur has been blessed with some of the best defensemen fronting him. Roy had Bourqie, Footer, and Blake, but never had ANY defensemen at the level of Scott Stevens. Brodeur took advantage of his defensive trap style team, and many experts have referenced this. It's very similar to Pekka Rinne for Nashville. As for Hasek, I still think Brodeur is better than him. -300 GP.
ebtricks 7 months ago
@ebtricks
ok now you are sounding like the biggest moron on you tube. Thank you Patrick you little fucking bitch!
duffy31311 7 months ago
@duffy31311 Your comments scream "I'm thirteen and I started watching hockey after the lockout. Fuck Patrick Roy, he's in the top 300 of goaltenders because he totally sucks worse than any goalie ever because Brodeur was the best player ever".
Brodeur played for a trap defense. Hasek never played in the 80's. Tretiak never played in the NHL. Did you get all that? Because I find myself repeating these facts over and over an I'm not sure if you have read them. Brodeur played for a trap defense.
ebtricks 7 months ago
@ebtricks
It is something to be proud of. and Roy changed the butterfly technique too. very good goalie.
duffy31311 7 months ago
@duffy31311 Roy is AT LEAST top 3, if not the best goaltender of all-time. By the time Brodeur won his first Cup in 1995, Roy had already won two. Roy's initial achievements came in an era when goaltenders were challenged more. Brodeur's won a bunch of games in the era when ties no longer existed. Roy might have sucked in shootouts but all his wins were earned in a less watered down era. Roy holds nearly all the playoff records and has one more cup and three Conn Smythe's, three more than Martin
ebtricks 7 months ago

Hmmm. Well, since Hasek, Tretiak and Brodeur were better than Roy, that would be a little hard now wouldnt it?

duffy31311 3 weeks ago
@duffy31311 umm have you seen brodeur lately? he sucks asshole. his best days are behind him and he still stood in roy's shadow. i'm not "on roy's cock" as you say, just stating the facts. even if you have different opinions on who was best, i mean everybody has their own goalie THEY think was best, but one thing is certain: patrick was one of the best of all time.

They didnt pick him though.
boskey10 10 months ago
@boskey10 still bitter he left and the habs got ripped off royally by the avs in the trade? cause thats what it sounds like
nevertweet015 10 months ago
@nevertweet015 Actually no im just sharing my opinion and facts to people on some things they dont know. Why would i be bitter when he was a big part of the those cup wins in 86 and 93.Had it not been for Mario Tremblay and his awful coaching by keeping him in net when they played Detroit and lost 11-1 back in 95 he would of probly played a few more years in Montreal, its because of him he left and demanded the trade.Terry Sawchuk has him beat, not by much though, IMO.
boskey10 10 months ago
@boskey10 fair enough but some of the reasons you gave as to why he isn't the greatest no offense suck,
1. how is it his fault he was never on a bad team? and dynasty's are dead their hasn't been one since the oilers and probably never will be again
3. from 92 -02 he won the cup 3 times so I don't think anyone cares he was the third best goalie during the reg season for 10 years
sawchuks a legend but to me Roy's the greatest guess thats where our opinions differ.
nevertweet015 10 months ago
@nevertweet015 Well of course its not his fault however had he played for Tor,Van or harford would he play the same?.How is he considerd the greatest when hes only played 17 seasons when other great goaile's played before him like Sawchuck, Plante, Gump Worsley and the list goes on.As for his cups in 10 years yeah thats pretty good Sawchuck did it less then 5 years, 0.62 average in 1952 playoffs all time record for a goalie oh yeah and he didnt wear helment either.Orignal six era was tuff.
boskey10 10 months ago
@boskey10 ya but in the original six their was only six....so the law of averages is much higher to win a cup plus sawchuk being the best goalie of the old age increases those averages even more (no helmet ya thats nuts but sawchuks lack of fear helped him get over that hurdle), I'm ok with calling this argument a draw because neither of us is going to admit our guy isn't the greatest! does that work for you?

CONTRAHABS 1 year ago
@CONTRAHABS That's because Hasek is the best of all time. Look at the record books. Hasek owns almost every goaltending category. He has 3 times more silverware than any goalie in history. He has two cups, one of which he set records in. He owned Roy when it came to important games. Remember 98 olympics and 2002 playoffs? Roy is an amazing goalie and probably second best of all time, but Hasek is Bar none the best goalie in history. He just stopped pucks more than any other goalie.
hardworker0707 8 months ago
@hardworker0707 Ok but the same goes for Mario Lemieux then. Lemieux had a higher ppg average than Gretzky and played a lot less games and played a lot of them in horrible shape because of back problems and cancer. If you disagree with me then i will disagree with you. I agree with you that Roy is second but second to Brodeur. Brodeur has 3 cups, most wins and soon most shutouts if you go by the record book. If you are a huge fan of Hasek you will never agree with me.
CONTRAHABS 8 months ago
@CONTRAHABS Clearly you are a Roy fanboy with the name CONTRAHABS so using logic and numbers, facts and statistics is almost pointless with you. Brodeur. Hasek's numbers are far greater than any goalie in history. HISTORY. Nobody has a better save percentage, GAA, and VEZINAS in modern hockey. Brodeur faced 15-20 shots a night on average and he could barely string together a decent save percentage while hasek had 40+ a night. You can be delusional all you want but Hasek's numbers are the best.
hardworker0707 8 months ago
@CONTRAHABS Sorry, but Brodeur isn't in the same league as Roy. Brodeur has 3 cups, but was always behind one of the best defenses in the league. He has NEVER won the Conn Smythe trophy (playoff mvp) whereas Roy has won it 3 times. Brodeur has the record for the most all time wins, which is nice, but with all his success, at his current averages, he would have to play for another 16 years or so to reach the number of PLAYOFF wins Roy has. Add to that Roy's 4 cups, and he's clearly superior.

@bookworm3283 You forget an important point about Brodeur. He has the most wins but in reality if you exclude wins via shootout then it actually took him until this season to break Roy's record. Not saying Marty isn't a stellar goalie but he doesn't hold a candle to #33.

luckeymanndaniel 1 year ago
since when has this become a Canada vs USA fight? who cares? it doesnt matter if you play for a team in Canada or a team in the USA, the NHL has 24 teams in the USA and only 6 in Canada last time I checked, so its clearly a US company. Roy doesnt look at this as a USA vs Canada issue. He looks at it with a "i want to win attitude" and that is all that matters. its not like he decided to not play for team Canada in the olympics and played for team USA instead, its not about countries.
RyZombie619 1 year ago
@Hurley474 It's just funny that you tried to correct me for mis-spelling Bourque's name when you spelled apparently & caliber wrong, you didn't put a space between as & well, & you capitalized "Classy" in the wrong context. You tried to correct me but you were worse. Much like how Roy thought he had the puck & put his glove up, when he really didn't & Brendan Shanahan poked it in lol. @Hurley474 Me spelling Bourque wrong is better than you spelling apparently AND caliber wrong. danjul666 1 year ago
He won't catch up with Patricks playoff records.
bookworm3283 1 year ago
@bookworm3283 You do realize that you only mentioned one of Roy's playoff records. Roy's shutouts, for example, in the playoffs are 23, which Brodeur is tied with. And Brodeur also had 8 shutouts in one postseason performance, the most of any goaltender, as well as the most shutouts in the cup finals (3), and being the only goaltender to put up 3 shutouts in two different playoff series. He also has the best post season GAA of all time. So...What records are we talking about?
IndianXXXIX 1 year ago
@IndianXXXIX All good points. But again, those records all have to do with shutouts. The records that I am speaking are the most important records of all. Winning. Having shutouts in 50% of all the games you ever play mean nothing if you don't pull out a win in the rest of them.
bookworm3283 1 year ago
@bookworm3283 With exception of the GAA, that is correct, they are all shutout records. But what we're talking about are goalies, not the team. It is the team's responsibility to win, it is the goalie's to stop pucks. Brodeur's shutouts and GAA are exactly that, stopping pucks, as the only part they can truly control. They other team can't score, and they can't win. The Devils lack of winning isn't Brodeur's fault, and certainly doesn't say anything about his skill as a goalie.
IndianXXXIX 1 year ago
@IndianXXXIX Actually, GAA has a huge amount to do with the number of pucks the goalie faced as well. Go look at the number of shots on goal each goalie faced in the playoffs. Brodeur had an outstanding team in front of him that didn't let a lot of looks at the goal. Anyone can have a low GAA and a high number of shutouts if they don't face any shots.
bookworm3283 1 year ago
@bookworm3283 Brodeur did have a good DEFENSIVE team in front of him, but when it comes to getting the win, you cannot always rely on timely goals. I would agree that GAA has a lot to do with the number of pucks a goalie faces. But to say that Brodeur didn't face shots and didn't have to make ridiculous saves is just not accurate. His % has always been stellar, and if you saw any of the playoff games, he certainly had to work for every shutout he had. Once again though, the goalie cant score.
IndianXXXIX 1 year ago
@IndianXXXIX No one is doubting his skill as a goalie, but you can't rely on GAA and shutout records to determine the overall quality of a goalie as having an outstanding defensive team in front of him means he'll get a LOT more of those than he otherwise would have. You should need nothing more than to look at how many Conn Smythe Trophies (Playoff MVP) each has won in their career. Patrick 3 - 0 Martin. He practically carried teams to the cup on more than one occasion.
bookworm3283 1 year ago
@IndianXXXIX Just as a side note, Patrick is the ONLY player to ever win the Conn Smythe trophy 3 times, not even the great Wayne Gretzky accomplished that. There also isn't a single active player in the league who even has 2 to their name.
bookworm3283 1 year ago
@bookworm3283 Hasek's two Hart Trophies back to back is a bigger accomplishment than that by far. Only one other goalie has a Hart Trophy. No one in HISTORY has two especially back to back.
hardworker0707 8 months ago
@hardworker0707 Except Ovechkin, Gretzky (8 times in a row), Lafleur, Clarke, Orr, Mikita, Hull, Howe (back to back twice), Shore, and Morenz. Yeah, no one in history has ever had 2 Hart Trophies back to back.... except those guys. If you were talking about just goalies, good for him.... except he only has one cup to his name where Roy has 4. Add that to the fact that the years he won the Hart, he was on a marginal team at best, making the accomplishment null. I take cup of Hart any day.
bookworm3283 8 months ago
@bookworm3283 If you wear some glasses you might be able to read that I said Goalie, not Player. Him being on a marginal team at best makes the accomplishment of winning the award back to back even BIGGER lol. That just proves he really did everything for that team. I don't understand your logic?
hardworker0707 8 months ago
@hardworker0707 If YOU wear some glasses, you spoke of goalies in the previous sentence, and then said that no one in history had ever accomplished the feat. You made no effort to maintain that you were still speaking of goalies. Ok, I'll try some simple logic for you. If you have a team of 40% players, and the goalie is a 70% player, he stands 30 points above the rest of his team. Compare that to a team of 80% players with a goalie at 90% which puts him 10 points above. (Cont)
bookworm3283 8 months ago
@hardworker0707 So, even though the team that was superior had a goalie who was far better, he doesn't shine as much to his teammates as the decent goalie does to his team of mediocrity. If you have a team of absolute garbage, any player who brings anything solid to the team would be in the running as the most important person to his team for the trophy. It's the difference of the players skill to the average skill of his teammates. Hopefully you are smart enough to understand that.
bookworm3283 8 months ago

you just dont get it bob faggot, roy QUIT on the orginization, gretzky was TRADED for financial reasons gretzky never skated off the ice acting like a baby demanding a trade#! financial rewards for edmonton #2 traded to kings to jump start hockey on west coast to stabilize the future for teams like san jose etc,get your facts straight before you comment back ROY QUIT+++++ GRETZKY TRADED?

hey bob faggott666 why dont you go away like this fat bastard roy did, except it he is #2 behind marty he will always be #2 except it faggott, he was a quality goaltender but he is #2,yes they cheered for him,but deep down there thinking this motherfucker quit on us because he was embarressed, dont buy it never will HE QUIT ON THE PEOPLE OF MONTREAL.
cuff1957 2 years ago
actually, the montreal fans quit on him.

Marty Broduer is a product of his revolution. and waay over rated. id be going to the hall of fame also if i faced like 10 shots a night for 30 yrs with the NJ defense. i was see marty be in like ryan millers shoes right now and see if hes still great. bull shit. Roy For LIfe

just another brain washed toad, how much more proof do you need,he skated off the ice and never played another game for montreal, he asked for a trade from the canadiens and he got it,if thats not quitting on montreal and the people of canada, then what the fuck is,and on top of it you welcome him back like nothing happened, this asshole should of been banned from canada,or shot dead at the fucken border, wake the fuck up people.
cuff1957 2 years ago
if the canadians hate him so much, then why was he greeted with THUNDEROUS applause when he came for the 100 year anniversary game? STANDING ovation? yeah, they hate him lol
BobSaggot666 2 years ago
its not my fault all the frogs cheering for him are brain dead, fuck him.
cuff1957 2 years ago
right.... every hockey fan in the world is braindead except for you and maybe a few of your friends, right?
BobSaggot666 2 years ago
not braindead yet but opening there eyes, and saying we cheered for this douchebag, but wait a minute after the cheering is over, you think about it this fat fucker did quit,he did shit on us and go to the avalanche, open your eyes shitstain patrick is laughing at canada an you in pennsulvania.ha ha ha
cuff1957 2 years ago
then i guess wayne gretzky is laughing at canada too...... cause HE QUIT.
but i guess it doesn't matter since EVERY SINGLE CITIZEN OF CANADA IS A MONTREAL FAN. there wasn't anybody at the edmonton games..... so i guess gretzky didn't have anybody to betray, right?
but wait, im sure you have something VERY contradicting to everything you've been saying to excuse gretzky for being traded.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
patrick roy once again comes up #2 behind marty,i love it,i cant stand roy he is a quitter,he said fuck you to the people of canada, you dont have to agree with me but prove me wrong on being a quitter.
cuff1957 2 years ago
growing up, i wanted to be a goalie because of this player. patrick roy was astounding... anybody who says that his pads were bigger than others of the time don't know what they're talking about. the guy had an amazing glove, and was a game changer all on his own. the man is an NHL legend, and probably the best goalie ever
