The hitbox is so small compared to the actual bullets that it's kind of like trying to hit a fly with a baseball; unless it sits there, it's unlikely it's getting hit.

A lot of the shots are also aimed directly at you, so avoiding them is just as easy as tapping to the left or right just a bit.

I know this is a good game but it's funny that it's 2011 and we are playing all these games in a tiny onscreen window. It's worse than the old Pal borders! spoils it for me. and no i dont want to turn my TV set on it's side :)

@cedricgabionza i can't even get close to 20 million points for an A grade on the first stage of ikaruga. It's a fun game but i can only take it in small doses though. It's tough but fun.

this is stage 1? games like this require proper skill, not like those gimps who think there great because they get a head shot in call of duty.

@ballbreaker3000 Different games take different skills, to be honest - this one has multiple modes - Original, Maniac and God (or Ultra depending on exact version). God/Ultra are nearly impossible for all but the best, I struggle to beat the first level at all on that.

@bargified It's maniac mode first level. Maniac actually isn't really harder than original mode - it has many more bullets, but they're generally slower. I never use continues (I go as far as I can with one credit), so I don't kow if they're infinite or not!
