  • What a beautiful bird.

  • That scared me! But he's so damn cute!

  • how you goin to decide if leo wants to take a bath or not.

  • @MrLilteezy20 I don't need to decide. If he wants a bath, why should I stop him? The waterfall might be a crappy place to take a bath, but I don't think it'll hurt him. He did splash a bit in the pool at the bottom afterwards.

  • is this decew falls? by morning star mill

  • @Talo1056 Nope, it's Carpenter's falls. Funny though, it's right new New Hope mill.

  • That is so cool! You guys had such a great bond with Leo!

  • how come the bird returns ? i needed to cut my birds feathers so he could not fly away

  • how come he doesn't fly away did you like cut his feathers ?

  • are you in oregon?

  • @tallandme13 This was in New York.

  • how old did leo get to be? my birds r both 3

  • @2crzychixs Leo was just over 4.

  • teehee i want that bird! ♥

  • Hi, I'm going to get one of these beautiful birds, I'm getting a baby sun conure, and I was wondering, would it be dangerouse to take him outside to teach him how to fly?

or should I wait and teach him around my house?

  • Did it never happen that he spooked and flew off? I want to have a free bird too, but I worry.

  • Yes, Leo has occasionally spooked and "flown off" - he doesn't go far, he usually just hides in an nearby tree and goes silent. Leo doesn't spook very easily though, because he's accustomed to being outside. When something DOES spook him, it's usually a predator, so the absolutely correct thing to do is to hide and be quiet. I can't complain about that!

  • @KippTheKidd that is a very nice job you did then. I would love it that my senegal parrot could do that but he is very scared of everything so if he could fly he would be gone in a sec. thanks for sharing though ^^

  • Whoa I just got scared for a second there when he flew out in the open.

  • That is so cool how he trusts you and has bonded with u for so long you could take him anywhere and he wouldn't fly away!! R.I.P leo u were an awesome bird!!!

  • Leo FTW! :D you have a very lucky bird that trusts ya :3!

  • yeah what 94gdl said arent u worryed he'll fly away we dont let ares out...:( we'd worry and be sad if they flyed away

  • Why would he fly away from the people who feed, love, and play with him?

Plus, they got him when he was young, so he has a very close bond with them.

  • He is sooooo cute.:)nice video

  • O.O i wanna learn how to flight train

  • amazing that he doesn't fly away! how have you trained Leo that he doesn't fly away and never comes back?

  • That's what I want to know, too, is HOW.

    HOW!?

  • Theyve had leo since he was a baby and he is bonded to the them. A bird bond to its family like it would to its flock. A bird will not just fly away from there flock. When most birds go missing its because therenot strong enough to fight wind currents and get taken away. Leo was flight trained from a very young age so he is strong enough to fight wind currents.

  • is that a monky>????

  • What a wonderful relationship you and Leo shared.

  • Leo must be realy close to you if he does not fly away when you take him out side...

  • He won't fly away since he has been raised, I have a lovebird and I take her out and she doesn't fly away. But you do need to be careful about other birds in the wild that may attack it, and they maybe out of your reach if they decide to catch the bird in the air. So always be careful.

  • I must not understand about Leo... Aren't you concerned he will fly away? He's such a precious bird I would hate to see him out on his own.

  • what kind of bird is leo? he's adorible!

  • omg wheres leo?

  • its not safe to have your parrot free flight out side what if he gets hit by a car or grabbed by a hawk yikes!

  • Billions of of birds fly outside, and only a few actually meet that fate. Yes, it can happen, but this is a weak argument. It's not safe for people to be outside, too.

In reality, a pet bird is more likely to die of an infection, heart failure, broken bones or complications from arthritis, crop rot or neurotic behaviors because of a weak immune system, a lack of exercise and under-stimulation.

But -- outdoor flight takes proper training, so don't just try this with any pet bird.

  • @KippTheKidd how did you learned him to not fly away?? did you first kept him on a harness?

  • @MrMetalandrock We didn't use a harness... we had him since he was very little - before he could fly, and we taught him to fly outside.

  • @KippTheKidd You taught him to fly? that's so sweet.

  • @crocsrule93

Whene u have a bird from a baby it becomes so acustome to you and so attached i highly dout it will fly away especially leo he is very attached to them to bad he died hes in heaven now and so is my sun conure tiny

  • How old is yours? Also...how can I tell when mines is ready to be taken outside? I would really appreciate any help people have to give me. Thanks in advance!

  • Leo is 3 years old now. Birds are most "ready" to be outside when they're youngest -- less than 5 months. That is the best time for them to learn, and they're more likely to come back -- then you can teach them to come back. Older birds are more independent and will have more trouble learning the details of outdoor flight.

If you're very curious about all of this, look up and read about "Free Flight Birds".

  • That's so cool that you can walk around outside with Leo on your shoulder and not have to worry about him flying away.

My bird would be gone instantly (well we have only had her for a few months).

    Cool bird.

  • I got my sun conure, Sunny a few months ago. He had already been clipped, but can anyone tell me if he will be able to fly in the futere?

  • just wait until he molts again and hell be flying like no tomorow

  • His feathers will grow back, but don't take him outside unless you know what you're in for! Do some research on "free-flight training" if you're going to attempt this.

  • My dad is a backyard breeder. He breeds Lovebirds ( a very small type of parrot ). Right now we have 64 of them. They are very intelligent, loving animals, so im thinking about taking 1 from a nest and hand feeding it. Is it a good idea?

    Hannah oxoxox

  • lol leo its like ""oh yeah i'll be right back""

  • could he fly?

  • No, of course he can't fly.

    Did you watch the video?

  • my bad didn't watch the whole video when i posted that comment

  • One question how do get it to not fly away?

  • see the dog?

    Jokes. :D

  • Its amazing how he won't fly away :3

  • i think if u bring the birds egg outside for hatching maybe he wont fly away cus his first sight was you or somthing

  • Leo looks very happy in his all his vids.

Great job with providing him comfort and happiness.

  • lol at the end of the vid, he hids on the girls other shoulders

  • Does Leo have fully grown flight feathers?

  • Yep. He's never been clipped.

  • that is just AMAZING that you can go outside with Leo and that he doesn't fly away. we just lost our budgie last week and he was a friendly and beautiful lil friend. he was a part of the family. we are thinking of getting a sun conure in the future...you guys are so lucky with Leo he seems so tame and amazing. Our budgie, Cici, was amazing but we couldn't bring him outside.

  • he is sooo cuteee.........

    we love Leo(H)

    I have a parrot too...

    He's a blue indian ringneck:D

  • I noticed that in your other comments you mentioned that you taught your bird to be afraid and to hide when he sees predator birds. How do you teach Leo to do that? =)

  • When he's scared, he makes a certain kind of squawk. After that, he goes silent and hides. We basically do the same thing when we see a predator. It's important to STOP calling after he goes quiet, or else he'll feel that the danger is gone and/or you are "blowing his cover".

  • very tame bird

  • are you not scared that he will fly away??

how do you get him to be sooo loyal?

  • I'm sure he won't fly away, as he loves us very much. An indoor bird, although they may be able to get from place to place, really lacks the skills to come down from a tree in even a small amount of wind...

I am, however, concerned that Leo might be nabbed by a predator. We have to be very careful, and we teach Leo to hide when he sees something in the air that "soars" instead of flaps.

The secret to loyalty getting them young and spending lots of time.

  • They are the cutest thangs!!!!!!! on earth and very talented parrots are

  • and he usually sleeps with me in the bed,he loves to sleep under the sheet, well timmy is just like a 3 months i got him when he was like 2 weeks, thats why when i see leo all the time i just laugh cuz they R so cute... take care and God bless u guys!!!

  • Hi!!! I love to see Leo, I have a sun conure that his name is Timmy and he loves to go out with me...when i go to my boyfrind's house he all the time go with me, he never fly away and if he do it he just come back.he loves to stay all the time on my head so when i drive he likes to see all the cars and everything outside,i drive with timmy on my head and my windows down and he never fly away he loves it...

  • I love to take my bird out on my shoulder. I used to take her out like that but I don't know why she started to get scared easily from everything since last summer. She jumps and screams when she sees something unusual. Also we have this falcons in our yards and I can not risk anything.

Anyways, you have a lovely bird that I just want to kiss him so badly.. :)

  • I guess you guys don't just take him out on the street though where there are cars? I was always scared of that with my Spike (quaker parrot), because his wings were not clipped (since I don't believe in clipping wings), we had a super strong bond like you and Leo, and he always came back to me and followed me everywhere and loved sitting on my shoulder :) But I almost never took him outside because I was scared of him getting hit by cars and other animals.

  • Leo doesn't usually fly low enough anyways, but I agree, the road is dangerous. There's no traffic where we are.

I'm *very* concerned about predator birds, though. We have spent a lot of time getting Leo to be afraid and hide when he sees them.

  • Wow to have your conure with you outside is great. I have an umbrella cockatoo and I'm far too nervous to have her with me away from the yard of our house. You have a happy family!!!

  • That's not Winter Falls in Oregon is it?

  • Carpenter's Falls in New York.

  • I just wanted to say that you guys are such good parents. He must love you so much to just stay with you like that! I watched your other clips too, and even though I knew birds were intelligent, I was surprised at this little man. Absolutely beautiful to watch.

  • cute bird ^^ was that up north in michigan somewhere, looks like a familar place ^_^

  • very cute bird. you guys are very well educated about birds.

  • i used to have a blue fronted amazon parrot he liked beiing with me and he also talked i used to take outside but with his wings clipped i was afraid something could happen to him. Your bird seems to be super well trained. You did a great job!

  • Your bird is obviously well loved and well taken care of. Please reconsider taking your baby out in the open like that. Predator birds can swoop down and snatch him right off of your shoulder and you would never see them coming. I have read of many instances of this happening, even in large cities. Good luck with your beautiful bird!

  • We've trained Leo about predator birds. Not to say that it's not a risk, but he knows to watch the sky and hide when there are predator birds around. If Leo could weigh the risks, I'm sure he would choose outdoor flight.

  • Are you in Ithaca NY by any chance???

  • Close! This was on the western side of Skaneateles Lake, at Carpenter's Falls.

  • Wow, what lucky circumstances. You also have him well socialized. He doesn't appear to be over bonded with anyone. I hope to have the fortune to have a situation that will allow such a relationship with a bird again some day.

  • How did you get him at 2 weeks? I don't know any breeder that would give me a bird that young.

  • My wife owned a pet shop for a while, and we had a brooder. The breeder quizzed us a bit and wanted to see our equipment. We had to do a bit of shopping around.

  • how do you train him to not fly away? have you got any bird before that flew away and didn´t came back? (sorry for my english, I´m spanish)

  • Your English is perfect. Very young birds bond to their owner, so they don't fly away. We raised Leo from 2 weeks old.

  • thanks, but what do you mean with ''young bird''?; 4 weeks? one month?

  • man, id be scared to take my bird like that

i do that putside but i hold him

i used to do it all the time but then one day

he flew around my house and i didnt seee him and then he just came back around my house and on me

and this was outside but that bird is cool:)

  • wow, how amazing that you take him everywhere. That's fantastic.

  • He must be trained very well to not fly away! That's great!

  • Leo sure gets out a lot.

  • Almost every day!
