Anyone can make a documentary and make any claims they want to make. But the comment that follows, written by moabtg11, is truly unfortunate. Dick Clark, like many of us in the late 50's, made some mis-steps early in his career. But to characterize him as "is and was a bully" is pure bull ----! I can give you a huge list of artists whose careers never would have been had it not been for Dick Clark.
Sorry... One more thing. Why now? This crap was 50 years ago? He whines like a little kid with a skinned knee. He's got nothing, is crying for attention, and deserves to be bi#$%slapped from here to kingdom come for trying to take down a really nice guy.
Rank bulllshit from another Perez Hilton. I worked for Dick for 25 years and he is NOTHING like what is portrayed by the bitter crust in this piece. And as far as the "real" Dick. You have not heard/seen the real thing because that belongs to his friends/loved ones. And no he is not what Perez/Swords portrays him to be. HUAC had nothing to do after the communist witch hunts so they turned to rock 'n' roll. Honestly people, ask yourself what is this clown's motive.
In the Book...American Bandstand-Dick Clark And The Making Of A Rock And Roll Empire, Johnny Maestro states the following at page 136 "We were very naive as far as the business went. We didn't care about all that." (Despite recording five top forty hits on Coed, Maesrto claimed because of the expenses that were continually levied against their royalties," the Crest never got a penny"
Looking forward to it and herd the film will be showcased in NEW YORK, PHILADELPHIA (old orginal American Bandstand Studio-B) and at the JERSEY SHORE this FALL!!! I'M THERE!
what he doesn't mention is that his song was "Doing the Bop" and on its way down the charts when Dick Clark and his people helped him to redo the song and keep it general about what goes on at the hops (dances) that were going on at the time
Finally!!!! A way to bring Dick Clark out to be the person he REALLY WAS. EVERY time I see people nearly worship Dick, I have prayed these stories would come out. I don't have to love the guy. He made some of the most greedy deals. He is and was a bully. He has gotten alway with destroying the minds and lives of as many as HE claims to have helped. Make NO MISTAKE...if there was nothing in it for Dick there was nothing in it for anyone. Thank you for this great inside account!!!
Amen to that..my dad was on the major labels at the time, turned down aBandstand appearance because of all of this..100%true, he has been talking about this all of these years..we just found out about this movie.
If its true I'm suprised Dick didnt have his legs broken
