Strange.. I thought I'd left a comment here the last 100 times I watched this. Well.. Needless to say I'm in love with it. Grew up with my dad listening to John and this song has stuck with me like glue.
First of all, my guitar is tuned down 1 full tone; this just works with my vocal range for this song. So, when I identify chords, I'm telling you the shape of the chord to play, thus C would actually be a Bb, but you will play a C shape.
My (Thumb Index Middle Ring) picking pattern is TIRM, TIMR, TIRM, TIMR for the verse (C EM F G), and the strings I strike for these chords are: 5312, 6432, 4312, 6432.
Thanks for your kind comments - I think John is around wherever his songs are played :-)
Thank you!! Sounds great!! I always get jealous of people that sing John Denver Songs, to high for me to even attempt, but I do wish I had a voice for it. Thanks for the video!!
I'm glad you like my vesrion of the song. Rather than take up the entire page with the TAB/picking pattern, I'll send you an email with the details :-)
Hey this is beautiful man. What a lovely and great vocal and guitar performance. Keeping the memory and spirit of our Dear John Denver alive. he said we all should seek that 'space' and should enjoy and preserve it for our kids and their kids etc. You found and appreciate it where you live and so do I here in Dublin with the Wicklow hills on my back door. John Denver is part responsible for my appreciation of my surrroundings in a big way..Again, great pipes and guitar work. I loved this!
Thanks, sbbinahee. How lucky you are to live so near to the Wicklow Mountains - one of my songs on YouTube is about that beautiful place and the peace and pastoral beauty of Ireland and its wonderful people. John was the biggest influence on my life, and his appreciation of the great outdoors led me to the mountains. I did actually look at moving to Ireland a few years back as my music went down very well over there, but for reasons beyond my control, it was not be...Thanks for your comments :-)
Great picking, great relaxed natural vibrato like John's, almost the same long notes as he sang ( he really soared in his songs!), and i love how simply you played but at the same time captured all the nuances of the song. 5 stars, faved, and subscribed. just lovely. thank you!
My god, I have tears in my eyes. What a soul touching performance. With this single performance, sat there alone, Mark blows every band in the charts away without even trying. Awesome, Mark. Thank you.
Mark, I absolutely loved this song, thank you for posting it. I grew up in Colorado and remember when John was starting out. I got to meet him in Aspen while I was in college. His life was tragic really. I liked him best just the way you play his music, very simple. All the best.
Thank you for the nice comments; though I saw him play several times, I never got to meet John but his music definitely made me pick up the guitar and write songs. I only got to Aspen after his death, though it had long been my wish to go there. This is perhaps my own favourite of his to sing - I love the power of the vocals and the message of this song.
aah i love it from the moment you started singing a chill went through my spine. Really really nice job on one of my utmost favourite john denver tunes! I hate that its a little out of my range to sing

Hi Mark,
I'm a big fan and enjoy this time more each time.
I was so happy to see a picture of you enjoying the view and the water in
you're version of Wiklow Mountain High in the UK !
Thanks for helping to keep this music alive !
I believe this is one of John's spiritual gems as I read that he attended the
Werner Erhard EST Training back in the 70's.
Best, LA Guy
