  • NEEDS TO BE LOUDER

  • Corea's Spain is such a wonderful song! One of these days I must make it to the Blue Note. Stuff like this is simply awesome.

  • "the bluegrass note" ajajajaja bobby is so funny an a master on vocals each note is just right or so close to the right note

  • not every day you see someone on youtube who actually knows the band Matrix!

  • the ending sounds a lot like the album "Harvest" by Matrix

  • "what? a bass player? naa we are good ...we have bob here...he does weird stuff with his mouth...no point intended"

  • I love Chick, but his masturbatory intros get old after a while.

  • I like the intro from concierto de aranjuez

  • Can't get three more talented people in one room at a time

  • Awsome performance

  • The amount of awesomeness on that stage is staggering.

  • Where and when was it?

    Beautiful piece of real art!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So, it appears as though Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, and Bela Fleck were all in the same place at the same time at one point.

    That can't be legal.

  • @GrodSamson hahahahaha funny. that's called the unpredictability of life, you can call it awesomeness as well.

  • Yep, is moving....

  • I love that Bobby McFerrin plays his Saxaphone on the mic!

  • My only complaint, i could not get it loud enough to suit me.

  • @turbogrammy Agreed.

  • maestros...

  • fast forward to 1:58 to get past Chick noodling, Bela tuning his banjo and Bobby rambling. It gets good then

  • aaamazing ♥♥

  • damn it i wish this was louder

got my whole thing turned up, can barely hear

  • it's moving because its hanging

  • i love bela fleck's face in this piece.

  • I want it too!!!!!

  • Is it available as a single dvd, or just in the 10 dvd box set?

    I want it!

  • 3 Kings!! Everything is possible with music!!

Add Mr victor wooten, and Mr al di meola! :) i would like to see that !! madness

  • OMG!!! McFerrin, Bela Fleck, AND Chick Corea on the same set!!!!! I thought it couldn't be true!! Thanks so much for uploading. These are my favorite cats!!!

  • I would have killed my mother to be at that show.

    O__O srsly.

  • thats just creepy

  • @qpalqlap Really? You don't give her enough credit.

  • To create like Chick Bobby Keith Jarrett Bona and some others ..what an experience we'll never know

  • dont think about glory. just create. thats the what matters, create, and dont worry about anyone else.

  • @jrmutk Well said.

  • sorry man m mistake i wanted to give you a thumb up... little mistake... is not thumb down...is up

  • NICE!!!

  • Did anybody notice that it looked as if Bela Fleck started playing Concerto de Arajuez without it being premeditated, and he looked to Chick Corea for reassurance, who nodded to him to continue?

  • On the original recording Chick "borrows" that section of the Concerto do Arajuez for the intro before going into the main samba part, but I suspect that Bela was just messing with him, and then received that reassuring nod.

  • Hehe yeah, my thoughts exactly.

  • Point taken, but it's actually named "Concierto de Aranjuez"!

And shouldn't the "samba part" rather be called "salsa part"? Anyway, the time signature of this tune oversteps every pre-defined beat, though.

  • @jazzassin No.. It's a samba groove, and the time signature is 4/4. It's been defined many millions of times before.

  • @jazzassin

forgive them, concierto is spanish, concerto is English/Italian.

    and it's samba.

  • Wow. Bobby has achieved a consistency with his pitch that I will never be able to comprehend how

  • haha... even in soundcheck they sound absolutely amazing!!! :D.

  • Oh hell... they hit excactly every note. Really awesome musicians..... goddd!

    From Holland n_n

  • are u sure ur speakers are working? 0_o

  • :P .

  • Does anyone know if/where this whole evening can be purchased? 3 giants in their fields performing in one place... whew. Be still my pounding heart.

  • yep - on amazon

search Chick Corea Rendezvous in New York

  • I can barely hear McFerrin sang the lyric at the beginning instead of the tumbao :)

  • mmm this is an improvvisation on the "concierto de aranjuez" di joaquin Rodrigo?

  • yes, of course, I think the third movement

  • Actually this is the theme from the middle movement.

  • Not quite. "Spain" is a composition by Chick Corea based partly on "concierto de aranjuez".

  • the sign is probably suspended with wires.. Great preformance by three masters

  • I wish i could jam with Bela!

  • GHOSTS! hahaha!

WHO CARES WHY THE SIGNS MOVING! I HAVE A HARD TIME BELIEVING SOMEONE ACTUALLY TAKES THE TIME OUT OF THEIR DAY AFTER WATCHING THIS TO POST A COMMENT, NOT ABOUT THE BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS OF LEGENDS BUT ABOUT THE BLUE NOTE SIGN MOVING!

    come on dude...

  • hahaha thats right!

  • @b1llybrown Its suspended on a wire which isnt visible due to the quality of the video. Just thought u'd want to know

  • @b1llybrown

The sign is suspended by wires, an extremely common thing I don't know how it has even caused comment!

  • why is the blue note sign moving??

  • probably the air conditioning

  • it became a cradle with such dreaming music

  • Woah, jazz banjo.... that's like banjazz. or something...

  • Janjo?

  • Banjazzo!!!

  • Bluegrazz.

    For the win.

  • oh... intended for deaf people... good job!!!

  • If you like this video, you must Youtube

    Bobby McFerrin with Judi Donaghy!

Their performance is simply breathtaking! You won't be disappointed! :)

  • awesome! scat-tastic!

  • I love spain so much such an awesome peice

  • seriously...

  • Did you just call Chic Corea a stupid ass?!!

  • if the shoe fits......

  • as such a talented and experienced musician, Bela should have already tuned to the piano prior to the gig... but it was kind of rude for Chick to do so.

  • meh, it's the blue note. anything goes.

  • What the jazzgod says must be written on stone!!

  • you dont know man, he probably was. maybe this in the set and about to play where he uses an alternate tuning..??

  • Takes a long time for the melody of Spain to actually come through!

  • Buy the new real book C vocal version 2 it has it

  • instead of giving hate to mcferrin why dont you realize that bela is destroying the tune by not adding harmonies but taking the place of melody wich is supossed to sing by the lead instrument in this case mcferrin's voice?

  • OMFG, haters against Bobby McFerrin, he's fuckign fantastic! and they aint jammin either guys, cumon, theyre playin SPain! he's pretty much scat singin the bassline.

  • omg somebody PLZZ tell me where i can find the leadsheet for this for free? none of the real books that i own have spain in them :(

  • wow, i didnt know a banjo could sound like that...

  • I like this version of Spain. And is anyone else in love with the key of B minor? When I hear/play it I think of the Mediterranean. I loved playing this on trumpet in my jazz band. This song will ALWAYS give me chills.

  • Bb minor is cool too:)

  • Bb minor sounds so lonely. Gm is dramatic, Ab minor is Apocalyptic, F# minor is evil.lol

  • lol i love F# minor, y u hatin :)

  • Me!

  • Love the "Segovian"banjo posture...............

  • racist asshole

  • Bobby isn't a singer but a vocalist.

  • Wow. Ladies and gentleman, I give you someone who know absolutely NOTHING about music. Let us all kneel before this superior display of appalling ignorance.

  • Comment directed toward foliesespagne's comment, not the video. For some reason this went in the wrong place. Apologies.

  • this song originally had vocals

  • no it didn't...

  • (btw im not a chick corea expert) umm, on the light as a feather record, it sure does sound like a female vocalist singing a part in the main theme.. i double checked on the net, and it seems to be the same vocalist in the other songs in that album

  • Oh, by vocals I thought you were confused with the Al Jarreau version of this song! Your right though, and I'm sorry if I sounded like a hard ass :)

  • The vocalist's name on Light As a Feather is Flora Purim.

  • The female vocalist's name on the album is Flora Purim.

  • This might have been a great concert.

  • Three wonderful musicians... Bobby's a pure magician !

  • It`s based on J.Rodrigo`s "Concerto De Aranjuez", which was changed by Chick Corea into Jazz. Another nice version of this theme comes from Bela Fleck, Paco de Lucia and Pepe Romero.

  • I discovered Bela Fleck through this video. I'd never heard a banjo playing jazz but it's done so beautifully here that it solidified my belief that master musicians can combine any instruments and make a beautiful sound. I DID SAY "MASTER" MUSICIANS.

  • Apparently, Bela Fleck and Victor Wooten BOTH came to my city a few years back for Juneau Jazz & Classics. I had no knowledge of either person and didn't get to see them!!

  • Here's your chance to personally thank Bela Fleck for the wonderful music he makes and wish him a 50th Happy B-Day on JULY 10, 2008. So, send a "fun" card or something special to Bela's Manager: David Bendett Artists, Inc., 2431 Briarcrest Rd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210 and he will make sure Bela gets it. (There's nothing for sale here...so it's NOT Spam!)

  • Do you think Bobby uses solfegio?

  • haha. looks like bobby's playing imaginary notes on the microphone. this is definitely the most interesting version on this song i've heard to date.

  • He always does that. It's like he's playing the flute.

I'm going to see him live in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, together with Richard Bona and Alex Acuña! My favorite musicians ever!

  • OMG I totally loooooove this song

  • i will ban everyone from the interweb on the next terrible comment

    dont like dont watch

  • At least give us a reason for disliking them, don't just say the opposite of everything he says.

  • its a shame that these kids all over the world have access to making comments on this, and go and make a fool of themselves..get accounts cancelled...just because they dont like waht they are listening to,all youtube comments and critisisms should be justified..and dont just swear off if you dont like it..this is jazz..take it or leave it..me ill take it...now im off to annoy some teenager by leaving negative comments on their prized videos of rap etc

  • Ultimate burn. Nicely done.

  • bela just looks so happy all the time... love it..

  • Id be SO HAPPY ALL THE TIME if i could play like that ha ha....

  • some incredible talent on that stage.....

  • DEOX, It's a jazz variation of the slow movement from Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo.

  • Please get some music knowledge before posting things like this. You know who these people are? They are genious.

You may not like this, but watch their work and think again about your negative opinion.

  • He may be a prick, but saying you need "music knowledge" before you can appreciate the beauty in any kind of music is elitist bullshit. His dislike is just as valid as your (and my) amazement at these people.

  • obviously he's a teenager. some teenagers are stupid and make other teens ashamed of them.

  • i guess u r not a MUSIC APPRECIATOR.. i dun think u belong here... btw, great music from chick corea. SPAIN is one of my fav jazz songs.

  • Wow man, have some fucking respect.

  • What Do you know about music? Derkhead

  • That is damn right! :-)

  • ignorant comment

  • ?????? Hes a genius! Its greatful performance of all of those guys

  • spain? :\

  • does anyone know the name of this song?

  • Spain, it was wrote by Chick Corea

  • Hey Thanx.

  • It's a jazz variation of the slow movement from Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo.

  • it was WRITTEN by Chick Corea.

  • The introduction is a jazz variation of 'Concierto de Aranjuez' by Joaquin Rodrigo, where Bela plays the banjo solo (original for guitar), the fast movement where Bobby follows the fast piano notes is 'Spain' written by Corea... he always uses the concert as introduction.

  • open minded music

  • hey whos the guy singing?

  • Bobby McFerrin

  • lol talk about allstar line up!

  • These guys tare hands down the best musicians alive

  • No/Low sound!

  • What a nice arrangement to sing the head as a scat riff. Nice! Doesn't surprise me with masters of communication like these three.

  • I really like al jerau singing this song, I m trying to find it

  • Im so thankful that people try this hard at playing... It feels great to hear this...

  • I saw Bobby at the Benaroyal hall in Seattle, WA directing the Seattle Symphony. He is SUCH an awesome guy!!!

  • this is so sick!

  • Amazing! Man, to play music on that level, that must be bliss. Fantastic!

  • wow ive never heard a banjo do that.. i hate the original music banjos usually play

  • áááááááááááááááááááááááááááááááá bobby!!!!!!!!!!!! fuck!!!!!!! I'm crying... you're fuckin great..
