  • i concentrate on keeping my shoulders still, but i drag the plate across my knees, and over to the sides without touching the floor, in one slow motion. Kind of a core movement. I use a 25lb plate, and focus on the entire abdonimnal area

  • @kakejelly If your feet are up, it is more challenging to stabilize yourself, but you can put your feet on the floor if you need to.

  • @ChrisZFit Exactly what I thought, I was just curious as to what you thought. Having your feet off the ground won't work your obliques harder will it? Just works more on stabilization and balance?

  • @LEECOHRT Start off slow 3 times a week. Keep sets between 10 and 15, reps between 12 and 15. As you get used to that, you can start increasing the number of sets that you do and decreasing your reps. Good luck!

  • Boo yah! Thanks :) I been doin it right. I try to keep my spine extended though so I feel it more on the obliques. But I don't recommend, if I go too far to the sides & mess up, my back can hurt like a bitch.

  • @NoahTasha You can do either.  iF your feet are off the ground, the exercise is a bit more challening

  • @zrelish You need to challenge the obliques, so you want to go until you almost reach fatigue. However, if you can do over 20-25 reps, then you need to find a way to make the exercise more challenging

  • @bJkimbell check out PALO fitness. They have awesome exercises for golfers

  • @bJkimbell Deadlifts. This kind of thing only helps you so much. Golfers should have a strong overall body to perform well. Doing compound lifts such as the deadlift will strengthen not only your core, but the rest of your body as well.

  • NASA has yet to invent a scientific term to correctly describe your abs. That said, would this be as or more effective on a ball? Also, even though the abs are just one muscle group, I still notice the lower part just not "getting there". Any thoughts?

  • @petunia3331 alot of it has to do with diet....certain foods and choices can encourage fat storage in the lower abdomen

  • I've been doing them all the way to the ground. Is this dangerous, or why do you recommend stopping at 45 degrees?

    Also, is it reasonable/helpful to lift the feet off the ground a bit while doing the russian twist?

  • @ghubing Lifting your feet helps you use your stabilizers more and makes you focus on your balance more.....so that's fine.

    As for stopping at 45 degrees, if you go lower, most of the rotation is happening in the arms, not the obliques,

  • the muscles get stronger when you rest, not when you workout, so by letting them rest, you allow them to get stronger and then can work them out again
