The original Wicker Man is one of my favorite films. I watched The Wicker Tree last night and it is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. I have seen porn stars give better acting performances. The cinematography is nothing special. The score is overbearing and old fashioned, and the writing is horrible with one-dimensional characters and a completely unbelievable plot. I was very excited to see this movie, but it just isn't good in any way. Robin Hardy is no Anthony Shaffer.

This is NOT a sequel to Cage's catastrophe, it is also not a true sequel to the original Wicker Man 1973. It is from Robin Hardy's book Cowboys for Christ, which is another Wicker Man story about an American deep south country singer going to Scotland on a 'mission' to teach the locals and thing or two about Christ... but she finds pagans and the same Wicker Man cult very much still alive!

No. This is the sequel ( sort of ) to the original Wicker Man from 1973. It's also made by the same director. And Christopher Lee seems to play Lord Summerisle again.

You see ... in the original there weren't any men-hating witches. There was a plausible ( and interesting ) pagan community. There was also some nudity ( the Remake is totally prudish ). And very good folk-songs. ^^

This smacks of Robin Hardy and Christopher Lee trying to relive past glories. The trailer has the look of any other supernatural thriller in the last twenty years - the same fade in/fade out, the slow motion shots, symbolic imagery etc. It's like they're trying too hard to be stylish and modern.

If they're going to retread The Wicker Man, I'd much rather see a prequel about the history of the island which Lord Summerisle briefly explains in the original film. Now THAT would be interesting.

I think quite a few people who disliked the trailer are only familiar with the Nicolas Cage film, The Wicker Man, which is a really laughable film. But this is actually written and directed by Robin Hardy, who created the original 1973 film that is a must-see! It might have potential.
