  • Do people relly PAY to go see this ?

  • @poulsontheprick yes they do. and he makes more money than you could ever think of making. so lots of people pay to see this. chum. fool.

  • @Hammy370 How the fuck do you know what i earn ?You cheeky little cunt.If you look up to this uncoordinated slab of putrifaction then its no wonder you are as clueless about music as you appear to be.I live in an affluent part of Eire and i have a swimming pool in my conservatory; so keep guessing fannybollocks !!!!

  • @poulsontheprick Well, we deeply apologize for having a different taste in music than you.

  • @poulsontheprick Yes, in fact we do. And we know how to spell as well.

  • love love jack white! And It's BECAUSE of him that I am discovering some old blues artist! Like....this man blind willie mctell. thank you jack!

  • YES that is awesome!

  • I have heard this guy play some songs before, and he is quite talented. However to try and cover Southern Can on electric hmm geez I feel a little embarrassed for him

  • This is pretty good, but original is still better.

  • this versions not too good but knocked it out of the park on the record

  • Stupid? was it "stupid" when Eric Clapton did Robert Johnson's "Crossroads"? or The Rolling Stones did Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain"?or Lynard Skynard did Jimmy Rogers "T for Texas"? and the list goes on. Anyone and everyone should be covered (if they are good). It shows love and respect and helps keep their music alive. People like Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin had there careers rejuvenated because Dan Akroyd and John Belushi covered a bunch of old blues songs. Its a good thing

  • I totally agree. I will say, however, that this is one of the most violently misogynistic songs I've ever heard. Maybe "A to Z Blues" is worse. I love McTell but geez he can be hard to listen to sometimes.

  • Violence towards women was certainly more prevalent than it is now, however I think songs like these were more bravado and parody than sincere threats. In some bizarre aspect, women were flattered by this kind of talk because it demonstrated that he cared enough to beat her.

I know, crazy. It was a different time.

  • eeehh. I definitely follow you through the first part but I don't know about violent flattery. I guess each relationship is different. Either way I appreciate your thoughts on this and despite my comments I am a huge fan of McTell.

  • McTell was hugely talented and important musician for his day. Its great that people can still appreciate him today.

If you think about it, McTell wouldn't have written a song solely bragging about domestic violence, It is a love song. the more violent, the more he is showing he cares. I know, its bizarre. If he didn't care, he would just get rid of her. Its a macho way of expressing love.

  • @nichmars The thing you need to bear in mind about the old blues tunes is that the lyrics were often directed, in a very veiled manner, towards the white overseers, sheriff's deputies, prison wardens, etc, who oppressed the African-American population. It may sound as if that southern can is a woman, but Willie could actually be singing about wanting to beat the crap out of some over-bearing cap'n. Think about it.

  • @Ka1idurga Naw, I don't buy it. I think there are other, more plausible explanations, but this is far fetched. That is like saying when Will Shade says, "She stabbed me with the ice-pick," that he's actually talking about Jim Crow. If you want to listen to political commentary in pre-war blues, there are plenty of great songs (both veiled in entendre and blatent), this one is about pimping, like it or not.

  • @thesopranosrules piss off

  • @thesopranosrules seriously no one who looked up this cover really gives a shit. i LOVE this song and this cover;if you dont like it then get the fuck out of this area of utube!

  • This is a little too fast almost. Meg needs to chill on that.

  • I like it on their album, but not this performance, folks. As Dylan sang, ain't nobody can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell.

  • This is a great cover, but i prefer the original.

  • They didn't produce it. Google Blind Willie McTell

  • DRUGS!???.... you dozy twat dnon75.

  • I really like their version of this song

  • such a freaking catchy tune they produce...:P

  • one of my favorites songs, good cover.

  • yeah... and you're an asshole

  • thanks auddym, i love this concert

  • You're very welcome. It's one of my favorites.
