@Gasdrinker : your statement is only true if he runs his BOV after the MAF and if it is mounted after, he needs to recirc it then all is good . DV is the poor mans option .
If here, who doubts this thing's worth, wants a good laugh, go to 034 Motorsport's web site and look up this BOV. The product description says it all.
If you're a fan of the HKS, DO NOT go to 034's site . . . unless you want you feelings hurt.
Way to lose hp, get a diverter valve with cai to get the noise, running a bov will get you running too rich after shifts gumming up your engine and losing hp due to pressure loss.
im not sure if youre audi is the same but my a3 '09 has closed system turbo so a BOV would actually reduce performance and fuck with the set electric timing of turbo etc... and yea BOV dont add HP just conserve turbo n add cool noise :D
pretty much a div valve keeps the turbo spooled durning shifts so you dont wait as long for it to spool up, compared to a BOV wich just makes your car sound cooler and you have more lag time between shifts for your spool time. but at the end of the day, they all have the same job. keep your turbo from blowing up...
@18vwT neither of them keep the turbo spooled during shifts... that would cause compressor surge. they both release the pressure during a shift or whenever you let off the gas. the only difference is a diverter reroutes it back into the intake after the maf, and a blow off valve releases the air into the atmosphere. use google before you post so you dont look like an idiot next time
Wow allot of uninformed people posting that don't know diddly about how the blow off valve operates...working at performance shop and going to wyotec I learned first hand that your blow off valve should be placed in close proximity to your throttle body this prevents turbo surge and 9/10 won't raise a check engine light but like this poster says some are designed to replace diverters and others arnt take Subaru wrx for instance it also uses a diverter and if you install the wrong blow off valve
@ktmrider777 You should not get a HKS for your a4 if you are using the original turbo.. it will damage your "air flow sensor" Get a diverter- or hybrid valve instead :)
wow looking at these comments makes me sad about the future. One of those days one of you people will be in office.
A blow off and dump/bypass valves both do the same thing they allow air to escape when the throttle plate shuts closed. If no dump valve is installed the pressurized air stops when the throttle plate closes and shoots back into the turbo quickly and violently slowing the compressor impeller putting great stress on the bearings and the shaft eventually causing premature wear.
a dump valve on the other hand simply opens up another route for the pressurized air to go through once the throttle plate closes. This way the turbo is not hit hard. Dont forget the spinning of the impeller is what creates boost so the less that impeller is slowed, the faster it can create boost again. Dump valves and blow off valves both aid that.
The difference is that blow off valves are focused on sounding "cool". It sounds much cooler when the air escapes out to the atmosphere as it sounds sharper and unmuffled. A dump valve is also sending the pressure to the atmosphere however simply made to do the function instead of sounding loud. It generally sounds like the turbo is taking a quick quiet breath out..sigh.
The bypass valve is a little different and is commonly used in stock applications due to government regulations car manufacturers are required to follow when making a car. One of those regulations is a car must have a air flow sensor equipped to measure air entering the engine which is usually installed right by the air filter before the turbo has a chance to compress air. If air escapes the engine after it has been measured it will still add the fuel required for that measured air.
This is what happens with a blow off and a dump valve unless the car is modified to allow the change. Now that we all know a blow off/dump/bypass valve is good thing manufacturers use another way to bypass the issue. They simply route the air from the bypass valve back before the turbo. What this does is it simply allows the turbo to spin the air in a big circle once the throttle plate closes however since the air is fed right before the turbo, the air flow sensor does not measure it twice.
This allows the benefit yet does not cause problems. Now most people tend to replace the bypass valve with a blow off because of wanting the "cool" sound. Most do it improperly and let the air out to the atmosphere without modifying the vehicle in any other way so they get the measured air escaping problems in my last post. There are blow off valves made specifically to replace bypass valves which is the popper way of getting the sound you want yet not hurting your engine.
atmospheric valve on these engines is pathetic. either gonna throw up the engine management light for running rich or suffer from turbo surge, but hey, most dime bars think turbo surge is cool.
Now dont come back to tell us that you did DYNO with this HKS BOV and that it increased power from 180hp. to 244hp ahahhaHAHAH cuz there are assholes like that ALL YOU NEED IS AEM cold air intake it sounds better than your HKS and it actually gives you few HP
if your GTI had 180hp. stock, with this Blow off you just reduced it to 130hp. when you put Blow off on factory turbo thats on 1.8L engine you lose atleast 40% of the engine power wich means all boost your SMALL TURBO K03 makes your BOV releases not just while shifting it also releases when your RPM/s are over 5000 ... also its just like all other VW's i preffer you go wash your engine cuz all of them are pissing the oil
conclusinons: its not good for turbo because it might spin backawds, and if u will go on a gas pedal right away there will be not enough air in the system it will slow your cad down...
i read about it some where....when valve relise air and you will go on the gas pedal again there is not enough air in the system- and turbo needs a time to bulid up the pressure( because in 1.8T there is a small turbo), and smoe times turbo will even spin backwards!!! If there is a big turbo and different car its ok but not in that case. In vw engines exesive air will be saved and used by engine.
When i watched FastAndFurious1 i was interested in that, and i read about it..... but it was long time ago. Haters if you want to jump on me go ahead- i dont even care :)
no da ni mierda, para un VW el blow off es malo, tienese que comprar un diverter valve, pero hay uno que es diverter valve y tiene el ruido de un blow off
@mhrx02 not really susre how old are you but you should know that BLOW OFF IS MADE FOR " EXTREME TURBOCHARGED CARS" not for FACTORY TURBOCHARGERS only for BIGGERS Turbos as they use on PROFESSIONAL RACEs . buddy read and learn a lil more before you post something about cars
@Vucijak86 I think YOU are the one who needs to do some research. All factory turbocharged cars come with a blow-off or bypass valve. If you do not have one, the pressurized air will be forced back through the turbo spinning it backwards. Ever heard of compressor surge... look it up and learn an little before you post something again that makes you look like a complete retard.
@sharper911 Yeah, diverter valve or bypass valve are one in the same to me. The way I see it it's two names for the same thing. Blow-off valve is vented to atmosphere while a diverter/bypass valve is recirc'd, at least that's the way I've known it.
@mhrx02 thats wrong actually ul fuck it up cause the computer and the systems are design to work with a closed trubo system(DV).ul actually loose hp and fuck other shit up

no, its illegal for a car manufaturer to vent unmuffled air into the atmosphere, so they must put a diverter valve on, the stock valve, causes the turbo to spin backwards.
