@brushlessstorm 2 stroke diesels can handle higher RPM then the average Diesel. Old detroit diesels throw out everything i knew on diesel operation. Just to explain there are no INTAKE valves. The intake is in the side of the cyliner wall 2/3 down. 2 cycle diesel need blowers to push the air into the cylinder.

@2004CobraGuy For a turbo to work on a 2 cycle diesel engine you would need to keep the engine RPM high and under a load for the boost to do what the blower does. There are set ups out there that do use both blowers and turbos blower for low end and turbo for high. but to be able to start and run the engine just at idle you need that blower because that turbo at most will push two pounds at idle and that not enough to get clean air into the combustion camber

Rev her till the valves float thats when they sound good. That's a beauty of a machine. Iv worked on and rebuilt more of them 2stroke Detroit's. They run smith because they have a spiral crank. Simply one of the best engines made. Wish they didn't stop making them

@DOCTORtrololololol 2 Strokes are Detroit diesel engines, very common, nickname is screamin jimmy, slang for GMC, alot of buses use them, you've probably passed a million of em, or they've passed you, quite common to use the blowers off them for drag motors. I've driven the V4 71, V6 53, V6 71, V8 71, V8 92, awesome engines & cheap to rebuild.

@MightyMouse4466 These older engines can only run with a blower at high revs as demonstrated, it has to have forced induction to burn the volume of fuel to make it rev that hard, if the butterflies were shut it would blow a massive amount of thick black smoke due to unburnt fuel. Some later model engines also include turbo which has a blower bypass valve to run turbo at high revs.
